- CONCLUSIONS: RLRL exerted refractive state-dependent effects on ocular growth in guinea pigs, attenuating myopic progression under myopic conditions and promoting refractive emmetropization under hyperopic conditions. Transcriptomic analyses further suggested that these effects may be associated with refractive state-dependent changes in the choroidal microenvironment, with inflammation-related responses mainly observed under myopic conditions and melanin metabolism-related changes mainly observed under hyperopic conditions.

- CONCLUSIONS: Surgical interventions in adults with nanophthalmos, microphthalmos, and high hyperopia were associated with meaningful improvements in RE, VA, IOP, and ACD, although outcomes varied by underlying diagnosis and procedure type. Standalone phacoemulsification consistently improved refractive and anatomical outcomes, particularly in nanophthalmos and high hyperopia, while combined procedures incorporating vitrectomy or filtering surgery achieved greater IOP reduction in eyes with concomitant glaucoma. Subgroup analyses suggested that shorter axial length and the presence of glaucoma influenced treatment response. However, substantial heterogeneity across studies and frequent post-operative complications highlight the need for standardized surgical protocols and higher-quality prospective studies to better define optimal management strategies for these anatomically complex eyes.

- CONCLUSIONS: This case provides the first acute-phase histopathological evidence that characteristic scleral abnormalities in nanophthalmos persist during IOP elevation >60 mmHg, supporting their congenital etiology. Combined sclerostomy and cataract surgery successfully treated refractory nanophthalmos-associated glaucoma in the acute setting, and bilateral findings provide valuable comparative data supporting prophylactic surgical intervention in the fellow eye.

- Estimation of cycloplegic spherical refraction from non-cycloplegic clinical and biometric data in children using machine learning: a retrospective pilot study for screening triage. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Non-cycloplegic clinical and biometric variables provided moderate estimates of cycloplegic DS and SE after patient-level data partitioning. The J0/J45 vector analysis indicated partial predictability of J0, whereas J45 prediction was clinically unreliable. This approach should be regarded as an exploratory triage aid for spherical refractive estimation rather than a substitute for cycloplegic refraction.

Asymmetrical angle closure could be a clinical clue to detect uveal effusions in nanophthalmos.

- CONCLUSIONS: NC-SE may serve as a low-burden first-stage triage metric in school-based screening to identify children who warrant cycloplegic assessment for possible HRI. However, its moderate AUC and low PPV indicate that NC-SE should not be interpreted as a stand-alone diagnostic test. Cycloplegic refraction remains necessary for confirming hyperopic reserve status. Further longitudinal studies incorporating axial length, accommodative measurements, and external validation are needed to determine its prognostic value for incident myopia.
