- Microbial survival during repeated freeze-thaw cycles: species-dependent responses rather than glycerol concentration effects. [Journal Article]Cryobiology. 2026 Sep 30; 125:105719. [Online ahead of print]C
- Freezing is widely used for microbial preservation; however, it promotes ice crystal formation, which may compromise cellular integrity. Given the variability among cryopreservation protocols used in laboratories and reported in the literature, this study evaluated microbial responses to successive freeze-thaw cycles using different glycerol concentrations in Luria-Bertani (LB) broth and two stor…

- Seasonal and Regional Variation of the Chemical Composition and Antimicrobial Activity of Essential Oils From Piper marginatum Jacq. [Journal Article]Chem Biodivers. 2026 Oct; 23(10):e71771.CB
- Essential oils (EO) from Piper marginatum Jacq. exhibit biological activities dependent on chemical compositions, which vary mainly due to environmental factors. This study investigated the seasonal and regional variation in the chemical composition and antimicrobial activity of EO from P. marginatum leaves collected in three Brazilian regions across four seasons. Sixty compounds were identified,…

- Intestinal Villi-Inspired Living Biobatteries via Habitat-Engineered Conductive Hydrogel Architectures. [Journal Article]Small. 2026 Sep 30; :e76091. [Online ahead of print]S
- Microbial bioelectrocatalysis demands more than electron-conducting surfaces-it demands living microenvironments that hydrate, protect, and nourish whole-cell biocatalysts. This biological imperative remains unaddressed by conventional electrode design. Here, we fundamentally reframe microbial biobattery architecture through living habitat engineering, drawing inspiration from the human small int…

- Alleviative Effects of Low-Dose Lactulose Combined with Bacillus pumilus NJAUYBN1-7 on Slow Transit Constipation in Loperamide-Induced Mice. [Journal Article]J Appl Microbiol. 2026 Sep 30. [Online ahead of print]JA
- CONCLUSIONS: 30% lactulose combined with Bacillus pumilus NJAUYBN1-7 exhibits superior STC therapeutic effects compared with 50% lactulose monotherapy. This synergistic regimen improves intestinal motility, repairs intestinal barrier, relieves inflammation and optimizes intestinal microenvironment via multi-target regulation. This study provides novel mechanistic insights and validates the clinical translational potential of this safe and efficient combined strategy for STC treatment.

- Tuberculosis treatment success and its determinants among healthcare workers with tuberculosis in Selangor: A retrospective cross-sectional study. [Journal Article]Med J Malaysia. 2026 Sep; 81(5):699-706.MJ
- CONCLUSIONS: TB treatment is successful among HCWs in Selangor (86.9%), which is near to the WHO (World Health Organization) End TB Strategy. The odds of treatment success were much higher among younger HCWs, whereas doctors and other supporting staff reported had lower adjusted odds in comparison with paramedics. Moderate and far advanced CXR findings at diagnosis were independently associated with higher treatment success; however, this finding should be interpreted cautiously because of the small number of far advanced cases and the possibility of estimate instability and residual confounding. Conventional risk factors like human immunodeficiency virus infection, diabetes mellitus, smoking, and BCG status were found not associated significantly and may be due to the small subgroups and the nature of this registry data limitation. These conclusions indicate the fact that occupational role and clinical presentation are significant factors defining TB treatment outcomes among HCWs. Rolespecific and targeted adherence support enhanced psychosocial interventions, and better NTBR data coverage can further improve the outcome of treatment and support the TB control in the Malaysian healthcare labour force.

We analysed 1,223 notified cases from the 229 districts of the Republic of Korea, 2011 to 2024; models used the 223 contiguous districts (3,122 district-years). Crude incidence was 3.7-fold higher in rural than urban districts, with a …
