- Ergonomic redesign of overhead crane cab seats based on anthropometric data of Iranian operators. [Journal Article]Work. 2026 Sep 28; :10519815261490544. [Online ahead of print]WORK
- BackgroundOverhead crane operators are exposed to a high risk of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), partly due to poorly fitted cab seat designs that do not match operator anthropometry.ObjectiveThis study examined the mismatch between cab seat dimensions and the anthropometric characteristics of crane operators and proposed an ergonomic redesign to reduce MSD risks.MethodsSixty-four operators wer…

- Effect of Dental Chair Backrest Inclination on Mandibular Position Obtained with a Virtual Interocclusal Record at the Maximum Intercuspal Position: A Pilot Clinical Study. [Journal Article]
- Background: This pilot clinical study aimed to evaluate the mandibular position at the maximum intercuspal position (MIP) obtained with a virtual interocclusal record using an intraoral scanner across different dental chair backrest inclinations, in order to establish a protocol for future larger studies. Methods: In this single-center pilot study, 10 fully dentate participants underwent maxillar…

- Computational prediction of headrest interaction and support forces in adjustable seating. [Journal Article]Work. 2026 Sep 23; :10519815261483660. [Online ahead of print]WORK
- BackgroundModern vehicle seats often include adjustable features that let passengers customize their seating positions to improve their experience. One key feature is the headrest, which can be adjusted to accommodate passengers of different sizes and preferences. However, limited studies have quantitatively examined human-seat interaction in the head-neck region, accounting for different anthrop…

- Effect of sacrum-backrest distance on respiratory function during wheelchair sitting: implications for seating assessment. [Journal Article]Disabil Rehabil Assist Technol. 2026 Sep 11; :1-7. [Online ahead of print]DR
- CONCLUSIONS: Forward displacement from the backrest was associated with reductions in several measures of respiratory performance, particularly forced respiratory parameters and expiratory muscle strength, suggesting that seat depth and sacral positioning may influence respiratory efficiency during wheelchair sitting. Sacrum-backrest positioning may therefore be an additional consideration in wheelchair seating assessments.

- Characterization of spinal curvature in upright and reclined posture for human body model positioning. [Journal Article]Traffic Inj Prev. 2026 Aug 28; :1-11. [Online ahead of print]TI
- CONCLUSIONS: Created data revealed significant posture-dependent changes in sacral slope and lumbar IVAs. A preliminary methodology for predicting reclined spinal curvature from upright posture is presented. Findings require further validation with larger datasets and consideration of covariates to ensure robustness.

- Interpretability study on the response of the seat multi-axis vibration sensitive path to driver vibration comfort. [Journal Article]Ergonomics. 2026 Aug 26; :1-32. [Online ahead of print]E
- Ergonomics research increasingly prioritises driver comfort in complex vibration environments for safety and health. The existing evaluation methods fail to reveal the nonlinear relationship between vibration and comfort, ignoring the interpretability. This study proposes an interpretability comfort evaluation method using a hierarchical double path attention network (HDPA-Net). First, the accele…

- Design of an Adaptive Model for Intelligent Car Seats Based on Human Pose Recognition. [Journal Article]Ann N Y Acad Sci. 2026 Aug; 1562(1):e70369.AN
- Electric vehicles (EVs) are moving toward greater intelligence and personalization, but the dynamic adaptability of current vehicle seats no longer meets drivers' comfort and safety needs. To address insufficient posture adaptation and low recognition accuracy for occluded joints, this study proposes an intelligent seat adaptive adjustment model on the basis of human pose recognition. - Lower-limb electromyographic responses across four recumbent cycling configurations in healthy young men. [Randomized Controlled Trial]J Biomech. 2026 Sep; 206:113515.JB
- Recumbent cycling provides an adjustable configuration in which backrest angle and crank-axis height can alter lower-limb loading. Backrest angle changes the orientation of the active musculature relative to gravity, whereas crank-axis height modifies the foot-pedal interface and the ankle lever arm. Whether such positioning is associated with differences in lower-limb electromyographic (EMG) act…

- Immediate effects of sitting position on cervical and trunk posture, perceived discomfort, and RULA-based ergonomic risk during smartphone gaming: A randomized within-subject study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Sitting posture significantly affected cervical and trunk alignment, perceived discomfort, and ergonomic risk during smartphone gaming. Cross-legged sitting induced the greatest neck and trunk flexion, which may contribute to increased musculoskeletal strain over time. These findings emphasize the importance of promoting ergonomic awareness and healthy digital habits to maintain spinal alignment and reduce posture-related musculoskeletal strain; however, longitudinal studies are needed to confirm long-term effects.

- Effects of accelerometer orientation and sex on transmissibility during seated whole-body vibration exposure. [Journal Article]J Biomech. 2026 Aug; 205:113457.JB
- Occupational whole-body vibration (WBV) exposure can result in back injuries, with females at greater risk. Transmissibility is one way to quantify injury risk; it is measured using accelerometers and defined in the basicentric coordinate system (BCS). The internal axes of accelerometers at the sacrum (S1) and thoracic spine (T6) have been shown to deviate from the BCS dependent on sex, however, …

- UV irradiance modeling, simulated inactivation studies, and experiments demonstrate better efficacy of the UVC robot with movable arms. [Journal Article]Photochem Photobiol. 2026 Jul 06. [Online ahead of print]PP
- Autonomous UVC-based disinfection robots have gained widespread use after the COVID-19 outbreak to limit infectious disease transmission. Although several semi-automatic and fully automatic UVC robots are employed for surface disinfection in high-risk areas, their efficacy is restricted because they cannot disinfect complex regions of contaminated surfaces that are distant, located at different h…

- Effect of patient position on digitally recorded interocclusal distance in prepared teeth: A computer-aided design and manufacturing-based evaluation. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Patient chair position significantly influences digitally recorded interocclusal distance during intraoral scanning. Upright positioning resulted in greater interocclusal separation compared with the reclined position. Standardization of patient posture during digital interocclusal recording is recommended to reduce variability and improve the consistency and predictability of CAD/CAM-based prosthodontic outcomes.

- CONCLUSIONS: Post-resuscitation care of comatose cardiac arrest is complex, and each part should be tested in randomized trials. This part of the DANOHCA trial will provide evidence on one of these factors, namely position of the patients' head relative to the heart.

- Low back pain during prolonged sitting on a sofa is associated with pelvic posterior tilt in individuals with non-specific chronic low back pain. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Prolonged sofa sitting exacerbates low back pain in patients with NSCLBP, primarily associated with posterior pelvic tilt rather than lumbar muscle activity. Postural guidance encouraging anterior pelvic tilt may help reduce pain during prolonged sitting in daily life.
