- Prognostic biomarkers in non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer: biological basis and evidence. [Review]BJU Int. 2026 Oct 11. [Online ahead of print]BI
- CONCLUSIONS: None of the biomarkers reviewed can currently replace guideline-based risk stratification or cystoscopic surveillance. Future studies should define assays and thresholds prospectively, test them in independent cohorts, and show that adding a biomarker improves prediction and patient management at an acceptable cost.

- Free Mucosal Grafting Is a Simple Adjunct for Rapid Re-Epithelization in Septal Perforation Repair. [Journal Article]Laryngoscope. 2026 Oct 11. [Online ahead of print]L
- CONCLUSIONS: Contralateral free mucosal grafts heal reliably in endoscopic NSP repair, with complete healing in over 93% of patients with successful closure. The technique is simple to perform and assists in achieving rapid reepithelialization in an area at high risk of desiccation and poor healing.

- Evaluating OpenEvidence Across Pediatric Subspecialties: A Guideline-Anchored Expert Review. [Journal Article]Hosp Pediatr. 2026 Oct 12. [Online ahead of print]HP
- CONCLUSIONS: OpenEvidence produced high-quality responses with low expert-rated potential for harm across multiple pediatric subspecialties. The pediatric specificity of cited evidence warrants attention, reflecting the broader challenge of applying artificial intelligence tools that are trained on adult-predominant literature to pediatric populations.

- Predictive Value of Preoperative Examinations for Early Prognosis After Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery in Chronic Rhinosinusitis With Nasal Polyps. [Journal Article]Clin Otolaryngol. 2026 Oct 11. [Online ahead of print]CO
- CONCLUSIONS: Routine preoperative assessments provide valuable predictive information for early postoperative outcomes following FESS in CRSwNP. We expect these findings to support the integration of multimodal preoperative assessment to guide patient counselling and postoperative management expectations.

- Current state and future directions of the discipline of rural medicine in Aotearoa New Zealand: a qualitative study. [Journal Article]J Prim Health Care. 2026 Oct 12. [Online ahead of print]JP
- CONCLUSIONS: Strengthening rural-specific postgraduate pathways, together with stronger support for rural educators and researchers, is essential for improving visibility and fostering clinical-academic career development. A coordinated, nationwide strategy is also needed to strengthen the academic standing of rural medicine, ensure its long-term sustainability, and advance rural health equity in NZ.

- Photogenerated-electron fate, interfacial transfer, and evidence for microbial utilization in intimately coupled photocatalysis-biodegradation systems. [Review]Water Res. 2026 Oct 08; 309(Pt A):127111. [Online ahead of print]WR
- Intimately coupled photocatalysis and biodegradation (ICPB) systems integrate photocatalysts, carriers, and biofilms for recalcitrant-contaminant removal and nitrogen transformation. As research has shifted toward interfacial mechanisms, photogenerated-electron fate and attribution have become central to interpreting photocatalytic-microbial interactions. However, observations of improved removal…

- Generation of a PKP2 (c.1171-2 A > G) mutant human embryonic stem cell line using adenine base editing. [Journal Article]Stem Cell Res. 2026 Oct 05; 97:104113. [Online ahead of print]SC
- The PKP2 (12p11.21) gene encodes plakophilin-2, a key component of cardiac desmosomes, and its mutations are strongly associated with arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC). In this study, we utilized an adenine base editor (ABE) to introduce the PKP2 c.1171-2 A > G mutation into the H9 human embryonic stem cell line. The resulting cell line, named WAe009-A-3W, maintains typical s…

- Electrical Alternans With Alternating Left Ventricular Apical Ballooning Mimicking Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy in a Patient With Extreme QT Prolongation. [Journal Article]J Cardiovasc Electrophysiol. 2026 Oct 11. [Online ahead of print]JC
- CONCLUSIONS: Alternate LV apical ballooning mimicking Takosubo cardiomyopathy can be seen in a patient with extreme QT prolongation. These findings probably reflected a functional intraventricular conduction block due to marked spatial heterogeneity of repolarization between the LV base and apex.

- Subcutaneous methotrexate for treating rheumatoid arthritis in Portugal: a cost-utility analysis versus current practice. [Journal Article]ARP Rheumatol. 2026; 5(3):152-171.AR
- CONCLUSIONS: This CUA evaluated the value-for money of subcutaneous versus oral methotrexate for RA management in Portugal and found that subcutaneous methotrexate is likely a cost-effective strategy, with the potential to reduce healthcare expenditure and improve patient outcomes. These findings support consideration of wider adoption of subcutaneous methotrexate within Portuguese clinical practice.
- [Successful treatment of hypokalemic cardiac arrest with massive potassium replacement in a patient with Bricker urinary diversion]. [Case Reports]Orv Hetil. 2026 Oct 11; 167(41):1664-1668.OH
- Severe hypokalemia is a rare but potentially reversible cause of malignant arrhythmias and cardiac arrest. Early recognition of significant fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base disturbances in patients with intestinal urinary diversion may be life-saving. We present the clinical course of a 55-year-old woman who developed severe hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis and extreme hypokalemia following pro…

- The complete chloroplast genome of Mesosphaerum suaveolens is 152,555 base pairs long and has a typical quadripartite structure. It contains 132 genes, including 13 cis-splicing genes, 2 trans-splicing genes (rps12), and 8 tRNA genes with introns. A total of 47 simple sequence repeats (SSRs) were identified: 41 mononucleotide repeats (19 A, 1 C, 21 T), 4 dinucleotide repeats (2 TA, 2 AT), and 2 c…

- Tumor-Related Trigeminal Neuralgia: Clinical Features, Pathophysiology, and the Contemporary Role of Radiosurgery in Tumor Control and Pain Relief. [Review]Cureus. 2026 Sep; 18(9):e116049.C
- Trigeminal neuralgia arising from an intracranial tumor is uncommon but therapeutically distinctive because the responsible lesion is simultaneously the generator of facial pain and an independent oncological problem. When anatomically feasible, microsurgical treatment remains the preferred approach for achieving rapid, deep, and durable pain relief, particularly when decompression of the trigemi…
