- High Infection Rate in Open Anterior Talofibular Ligament Repair with Internal Brace Augmentation and Immediate Permissive Weight Bearing. [Journal Article]J Foot Ankle Surg. 2026 Oct 11. [Online ahead of print]JF
- CONCLUSIONS: ATFL repair with internal brace augmentation and immediate permissive weight bearing was associated with a higher SSI rate compared with ATFL repair without augmentation and restricted rehabilitation. Because augmentation and rehabilitation differed concurrently, their relative contributions could not be determined.

- Night-time sling use improves sleep, pain, and anxiety early after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair: a retrospective study. [Journal Article]Physiother Theory Pract. 2026 Oct 10; :1-9. [Online ahead of print]PT
- CONCLUSIONS: Nighttime sling use after ARCR was associated with better early sleep, less pain and anxiety, and greater satisfaction without an observed difference in functional recovery. Because treatment allocation was nonrandom and structural healing was not assessed, these findings should be interpreted cautiously.

- Short-term treatment effects of the hybrid functional appliance SOS Activator in children with Class II skeletal discrepancy: A pilot study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The SOS Activator is effective in the correction of Class II skeletal discrepancy by forward repositioning of the mandible. Additionally, due to its alternative design compared to other removable functional appliances, it presents the important advantage of concurrent distalization of the upper first molars and the simultaneous use of fixed appliances, such as braces and/or expansion devices, on the upper arch.

- Schroth exercises added to bracing for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis: a systematic review and meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Schroth or Schroth-based exercises added to bracing may improve the short-term Cobb angle, while trunk-rotation effects are directionally favorable but uncertain. The evidence was insufficient to determine additional effects on the quality of life, pain, respiratory function, posture, chest-wall or rib-cage mobility, pelvic alignment, balance, gait, long-term progression, surgery, adherence, harm, or treatment burden. Schroth exercises should be framed as adjuncts to prescribed bracing, not as replacements for adequate brace wear or reasons to reduce the brace dose. Future trials should evaluate radiographic, postural, respiratory, functional, adherence, safety, burden, and participation outcomes.

- Conservative treatment with continued sports participation for early-stage lumbar spondylolysis: An exploratory study of bone union outcomes in adolescent athletes. [Journal Article]J Orthop Sci. 2026 Oct 08. [Online ahead of print]JO
- CONCLUSIONS: In this exploratory study, conservative treatment with continued sports participation resulted in a high rate of bone union, particularly in unilateral, very early- and early-stage lumbar spondylolysis. Given the small sample size and non-randomized design, these findings do not demonstrate equivalence to sports cessation, but suggest that continued sports participation may be feasible in carefully selected patients.

- MUCL Reconstruction using Internal Bracing: A Meta-Analysis of Biomechanical Studies. [Journal Article]Int J Sports Med. 2026 Oct 07. [Online ahead of print]IJ
- The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate human biomechanical studies investigating ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) reconstructions using an internal brace mechanical augment construct. A search following PRISMA guidelines was performed in August 2025 across PubMed, Cochrane, and Web of Science databases to identify studies reporting biomechanical outcomes of UCL rec…

- Immediate Unrestricted Assisted Full Weight-Bearing After Bicondylar Tibial Plateau Fixation: A Case Series. [Case Reports]
- High-energy bicondylar tibial plateau fractures of Schatzker types V and VI are conventionally managed, after open reduction and internal fixation, with 6-12 weeks of restricted weight-bearing, out of concern for loss of reduction and articular collapse. Emerging evidence questions whether this restriction is necessary. Reports of immediate weight-bearing specifically after fixation of these most…

- Bed rest and endurance retraining alter persistent inward current estimates in young and older males. [Journal Article]
- Prolonged physical inactivity induces rapid neuromuscular deconditioning, with aging influencing both the rate, recovery and nature of these changes. However, its effects on the modulation of motoneuron excitability across age groups remain unclear. This study examined how bed rest and subsequent endurance retraining influence persistent inward current (PIC)-related estimates, motor-unit (MU) dis…

- How does AI-generated assessment compare to expert assessment in simulation-based experiences: Analyzing AI-human interrater reliability. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Findings suggest that AI scoring and feedback within AI-SBEs requires iterative prompt engineering and educator/researcher guidance. Tuning was more successful for content-specific items than context-dependent items. Future work could explore best practices for prompt refinement, particularly for more complex and context-dependent rubric items.

- Morphological spectrum of the septal papillary muscle complex and chordal support in the human tricuspid valve: a quantitative anatomical study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: MCA and MPS act as one functional unit. Together they brace the anteroseptal region of the tricuspid valve. These numbers sharpen the anatomical picture of septal papillary support and give a reference point for surgical repair and imaging.

- Linguistic validation and cross-cultural adaptation of the Polish version of the BruxApp Cloud platform for the monitoring of awake bruxism. [Journal Article]Dent Med Probl. 2026 Oct 06. [Online ahead of print]DM
- CONCLUSIONS: The validated Polish version of BruxApp Cloud provides a standardized tool for clinical practice and research in Poland. It enables remote, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)-compliant monitoring of AB behaviors and supports cognitive-behavioral re-education through biofeedback.

- Variability in Bracing Design and Bracing Protocols for the Non-Operative Management of Legg-Calvé-Perthes Disease: A Scoping Systematic Review. [Review]
- Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease (LCPD) is a self-limiting avascular necrosis of the femoral head in children, with management aimed at preserving hip joint congruency and reducing the risk of long-term degenerative changes. Bracing is a commonly used containment strategy; however, its effectiveness remains controversial owing to variation in brace design, biomechanical principles, and treatment protoc…

- Exercise-related interventions for cardiopulmonary function in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis: a systematic review and network meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Exercise-related interventions may improve pulmonary function and walking capacity in adolescents with AIS. However, because most comparative evidence was of low to moderate certainty and some rankings were affected by sparse networks and small-study effects, these findings should be interpreted as exploratory rather than as definitive exercise-prescription recommendations.

- Dr. John Emmett Hall: a legacy in spine surgery. [Journal Article]
- The study of biography is important to understand the principles of our profession and the intersections of the lives of the key figures in our spine deformity history. We hope that by telling these stories this history will come alive. The surgeons who came before us, as exemplified by Dr. John Emmett Hall, understood the importance of unwavering principles, developing close professional relatio…

- Radiographic and perceptual outcomes of shoulder imbalance in AIS: bracing alone versus bracing with Schroth methods. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Combined bracing with Schroth methods improves lateral but not medial shoulder imbalance. Medial shoulder changes, not lateral, relate to patient-perceived appearance, highlighting the multidimensional nature of shoulder imbalance.
