  • EEG Signatures Support a Shrinking Spotlight of Attention After Errors. [Journal Article]
    Psychophysiology. 2026 Oct; 63(10):e70418.Lavelle M, Fengler A, … Cavanagh JFP
  • Errors inhibit attainment of our goals, but there are many ways to get back on track: from increased caution to heightened attention. In this report we examined EEG signatures of control and perception in 21 participants who completed a luminance-varying flanker task. Hierarchical Sequential Sample Modeling with a shrinking spotlight model was used for algorithmic decomposition of post-error adju…
  • Dynamic Phase Synchrony in Cortical Networks Underlying Conscious Awareness of Flicker. [Journal Article]
    Eur J Neurosci. 2026 Oct; 64(7):e70704.Uchiyama Y, Takahashi T, … Kansaku KEJ
  • Flickering light sources, such as fluorescent lamps, evoke neural oscillations in the occipital cortex aligning with the flicker frequency; however, this flicker often remains outside conscious awareness. This discrepancy suggests neural mechanisms gating flicker perception. While functional magnetic resonance imaging studies have indicated the involvement of large-scale frontal and parietal netw…
  • Dynamics of Expression of the Neuronal Markers MAP2 and N200 in Human Brain Tissue during Early Gestation. [Journal Article]
Biochemistry (Mosc). 2026 Sep; 91(9):1566-1573.Shumilova SN, Potapov AV, … Gerasimov AVB
  • The article presents the results of investigation of the cerebral wall layer cytoarchitecture, overall cell density, and expression of neuronal markers N200 and MAP2 in human fetuses (n = 20) at early gestational stages (8-11 completed weeks). At 8 week of embryogenesis, the telencephalic wall consisted of the ventricular, intermediate, and marginal zones. By week 10, the subventricular zone, sub…
  • The rate of change in hypomanic traits longitudinally predicts the development of problematic smartphone use. [Journal Article]
Prog Neuropsychopharmacol Biol Psychiatry. 2026 Oct 02; :111956. [Online ahead of print]Zeng Y, Li Z, … Wang QPN
  • Problematic smartphone use (PSU) is an important behavioral health concern, but its longitudinal psychological, neural, and molecular correlates remain unclear. In a two-wave longitudinal study, 50 university students completed questionnaire and structural MRI assessments. Annualized changes in hypomanic excitement, fear of missing out (FoMO), PSU severity, gray matter volume (GMV), and morphomet…
  • Brainstem volume and arterial stiffness interact to support memory in midlife. [Journal Article]
    Brain Imaging Behav. 2026 Oct 02; 20(5).Li Y, Wang T, … Haley APBI
  • Historically regarded as a hub for autonomic control, the brainstem is now increasingly recognized for its role in cognition. However, little information is available regarding its specific contribution to cognitive function, particularly in midlife, when modifiable cardiovascular risks begin to shape brain health trajectories. Because the brainstem houses key nuclei that regulate cardiovascular …
  • Electroencephalography research in neuropathic pain (Review). [Review]
    Mol Med Rep. 2026 Nov; 34(5).Zhou L, Liao N, … Chen XMM
  • Neuropathic pain (NP), arising from lesions or dysfunction of the somatosensory system, remains a major clinical challenge due to its subjective and multidimensional nature. Traditional pain assessments rely on self‑report scales, which lack objectivity and reproducibility. Electroencephalography (EEG), with its high temporal resolution and accessibility, provides a promising avenue for identifyi…
  • Fronto-cingulate gamma synchrony predicts deep brain stimulation response in treatment-resistant depression: preliminary evidence. [Journal Article]
    J Psychiatry Neurosci. 2026 Jan 01; 51:1-12.Gholamali Nezhad F, Tailor I, … Bhat VJP
  • CONCLUSIONS: These preliminary findings suggest that VCVS-DBS may engage a fronto-cingulate gamma network involved in cognitive-affective control in TRD. They further suggest that clinical response may depend on both baseline dACC-VLPFC network organization and DBS-related modulation of gamma synchrony, highlighting potential relevance to cognitive-affective regulation across psychiatric disorders. Given the small sample size, these findings should be considered hypothesis-generating and require confirmation in larger cohorts.
  • A cortical-hippocampal communication undergoes rebalancing after new learning. [Journal Article]
Elife. 2026 Oct 01; 14.Hall AF, Wang DVE
  • The brain's ability to consolidate a wide range of memories while maintaining their distinctiveness across experiences remains poorly understood. Sharp-wave ripples, neural oscillations that occur predominantly within CA1 of the hippocampus during immobility and sleep, have been shown to play a critical role in the consolidation process. More recently, evidence has uncovered functional heterogene…
