  • Wolf in Sheep's Clothing: A Case of Sarcoidosis Exacerbating Asthma. [Case Reports]
    Cureus. 2026 Jun; 18(6):e110525.Pan M, McCracken JC
  • As a leading cause of chronic respiratory morbidity worldwide, asthma remains a complex disorder characterized by inflammation, recurrent exacerbations, and episodic symptoms. Pulmonary sarcoidosis is a potential misdiagnosis for asthma. Symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest tightness, and dry cough can be present in both conditions, making differentiation difficult. This case highlights th…
  • Flow Asynchronies During Pressure Support Ventilation in Children: A Bench Model Study. [Journal Article]
    Respir Care. 2026 Jul 01; :19433654261459034. [Online ahead of print]Vedrenne-Cloquet M, Ito Y, … Khemani RGRC
  • CONCLUSIONS: Flow asynchrony occurred during simulated pediatric PSV and was influenced by both effort and ventilator algorithms. Adjusting support may abolish flow asynchrony but can also trigger other asynchronies, underscoring the need to consider ventilator-specific performance in managing PVA.
  • Mid-range Theory for the Nursing Diagnosis Ineffective Infant Suck-Swallow Response. [Journal Article]
Int J Nurs Knowl. 2026 Apr 21; :20473087261443264. [Online ahead of print]Calixto Gomes S, Butcher RCGES, … Guedes NGIJ
  • PurposeTo develop a mid-range theory for the nursing diagnosis Ineffective infant suck-swallow response.Data SourcesScientific findings were derived from two systematic reviews, one addressing etiological factors and the other focused on clinical indicators. Additional theoretical support from Roy's Adaptation Model guided the categorization of the elements identified in the reviews and the conce…
  • Unravelling the Links Between Gastroesophageal Reflux and Lung Disease: New Insights. [Review]
Dig Dis Sci. 2026 Apr 15. [Online ahead of print]Bradley JA, Koop A, … Houghton LADD
  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a prevalent comorbidity of chronic respiratory diseases including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), non-IPF interstitial lung disease, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and refractory chronic cough. Prevalence of symptoms of reflux and/ or refractory respiratory symptoms, along with concerns that refluxed gastric contents into the es…
  • Eye-Tracking in Communication Use for Mechanically Ventilated ICU Patients: A Scoping Review. [Journal Article]
    Nurs Crit Care. 2026 Jan; 31(1):e70303.Jin H, Jing M, … Li LNC
  • CONCLUSIONS: Eye-tracking devices are effective in facilitating communication about basic needs and in supporting symptom assessment among mechanically ventilated patients in the ICU. These devices enable personalised non-verbal communication and provide a more objective approach to symptom evaluation. Future research should focus on enhancing device functionality and conducting multicentre, large-sample randomised controlled trials to further explore and validate their role in ICU patient care.
  • Human psychophysiology is influenced by physical touch with a "breathing" robot. [Journal Article]
    Emotion. 2026 Apr; 26(3):729-738.Witkower Z, Cang L, … Tracy JLE
  • People often physically cling to others when afraid and doing so can downregulate negative emotional experiences (e.g., Coan et al., 2006). However, in some situations, physical touch may fail to downregulate emotional experiences-such as when an individual being touched is physiologically aroused themselves. To test this hypothesis, we built plush robots with motorized plastic ribcages that were…
