- Regeneration After Severe Wildfire: Hotter Microclimates Exceed Hydraulic and Thermal Tolerances in Sierra Nevada Conifer Seedlings. [Journal Article]Plant Cell Environ. 2026 Oct 06. [Online ahead of print]PC
- Tree seedling regeneration after wildfire will determine the long-term trajectory of forests under climate change, yet increasing drought and heat extremes can suppress regeneration and result in forest type conversion. We combined field observations and a controlled drought-heat growth chamber experiment to investigate how these stressors independently and jointly affect drought- and heat-tolera…

- Collagen Receptor DDR1 Drives Fibroblast Proliferation in Hyperplastic Scarring. [Journal Article]Wound Repair Regen. 2026; 34(5):e70221.WR
- Hypertrophic scar (HS) is characterised by excessive fibroblast proliferation and abnormal differentiation; however, the underlying molecular mechanisms remain incompletely understood. Here, we identify the collagen receptor discoidin domain receptor 1 (DDR1) as a key regulator of fibroblast activation during HS formation. We observed markedly increased expression and phosphorylation of DDR1 in h…

- Tissue-based PEG10 expression as an exploratory biomarker associated with first-line R-CHOP treatment outcome in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. [Journal Article]Future Oncol. 2026 Oct 06; :1-13. [Online ahead of print]FO
- CONCLUSIONS: Tissue PEG10 overexpression is associated with adverse clinicopathological features and unfavorable R-CHOP response and may serve as an exploratory complementary tissue-based biomarker in DLBCL. These findings require validation in larger prospective multicenter cohorts before clinical implementation in practice.

- Construction of hyperbranched polylysine-modified antibacterial polyurethane foam dressings and their promotion of infected deep burn wound healing. [Journal Article]Regen Biomater. 2026; 13:rbag178.RB
- Foam dressings are vital for exuding wounds, yet antibacterial modification remains challenging and relies heavily on cytotoxic silver compounds. To address these challenges, in this study we developed a process for the antibacterial modification of polyurethane foam dressings using hyperbranched polylysine. The modification process consisted of a simple five-step procedure (soaking-drying-reacti…

- The Top 100 Most Cited Articles in Reconstructive Microsurgery: Identifying Evidence Gaps and Research Trends for Future Investigation: A Bibliometric and Visualization Analysis. [Journal Article]Arch Plast Surg. 2026 Sep; 53(5):456-473.AP
- CONCLUSIONS: Three critical findings emerged: (1) No Level I studies and only 7.22% Level II evidence; (2) geographic concentration, with nearly half of contributions from the United States; and (3) a thematic shift from anatomical descriptions toward outcomes research. These findings provide a roadmap for advancing the field.

- Development and validation of a peripheral blood smear assessment tool using cloud-based full-field digital microscopy. [Journal Article]Acad Pathol. 2026; 13(4):100296.AP
- Peripheral blood smear review is a fundamental skill that aids in the timely diagnosis of morbid conditions in hematology. There is a lack of existing, evidence-based assessment tools to evaluate learners and guide curricular development both in peripheral blood smear review and analogous visuospatial skills across medical specialties. We collected validity evidence for a novel assessment tool fo…

- Stevens-Johnson syndrome precipitating days after treatment for dostarlimab-induced autoimmune encephalitis: a case report. [Case Reports]Gynecol Oncol Rep. 2026 Oct; 67:102219.GO
- CONCLUSIONS: We propose that checkpoint inhibition, evidenced by the preceding neurologic irAE, primed the patient for a severe hypersensitivity reaction to a subsequently administered, ordinarily tolerated medication. This case underscores the importance of heightened vigilance for severe reactions to common drug exposures in patients with a recent irAE, even after immunotherapy has ended.

- Near-infrared spectroscopy: Continuous, objective surveillance for face transplant success. [Journal Article]JPRAS Open. 2026 Nov; 52:493-495.JO
- Face transplantation carries a critical risk of vascular occlusion. Traditional monitoring relies on subjective clinical signs, which may detect compromise after irreversible ischemia. We report the first application of continuous near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) for postoperative monitoring in a partial face transplant recipient. Over ten days, NIRS identified 51 subclinical perfusion events (h…

- Multi-antigen coronavirus vaccine induces potent and durable cross-protection against multiple SARS-CoV-2 variants. [Journal Article]NPJ Vaccines. 2026 Aug 18; 11(1).NV
- The first-generation Spike-based COVID-19 vaccines reduced the risk of hospitalization, serious illness, and death from SARS-CoV-2 infections. However, waning immunity failed to prevent immune escape, resulting in multiple variants of concern (VOCs) and prolonging the pandemic. We hypothesize that next-generation CoV vaccines incorporating highly conserved SARS-CoV-2 T cell antigens would confer …

- Predictors of outcome in 215 patients requiring emergency department thoracotomy: A 2-year prospective study in a large urban trauma center. [Journal Article]Surgery. 2026 Sep 07; :110607. [Online ahead of print]S
- CONCLUSIONS: For patients presenting in arrest requiring emergency department thoracotomy, all parameters plus a cardiopulmonary resuscitation duration of 12 minutes are predictive of mortality. Seventy-five percent of patients can be excluded from emergency department thoracotomy. Emergency department thoracotomy should be applied selectively to patients sustaining penetrating cardiac injuries and some vascular injuries.

- Unexpected parasternal musculature during skin-sparing mastectomy and microvascular breast reconstruction. [Case Reports]BMJ Case Rep. 2026 Oct 05; 19(10).BC
- The sternalis muscle is an uncommon anatomical variant of the anterior thoracic wall. Although regarded as functionally insignificant, its presence may influence diagnostic interpretation, surgical dissection and reconstructive planning in breast surgery. We report bilateral sternalis muscles discovered during bilateral skin-sparing mastectomy and immediate autologous reconstruction in a woman in…

- Sustained nitric oxide release via formylfuroxan-conjugated polymeric micelles accelerates burn wound closure. [Journal Article]Colloids Surf B Biointerfaces. 2026 Oct 01; 269:116226. [Online ahead of print]CS
- Burn injuries are often accompanied by severe vascular damage, local tissue hypoxia, and subsequent scar formation. Although nitric oxide (NO) has been widely recognized for its ability to promote angiogenesis and tissue regeneration, achieving sustained NO delivery remains a major challenge. Herein, we developed a formylfuroxan-conjugated NO-releasing micelle (NORM) for burn wound repair. Compar…

- CONCLUSIONS: This retrospective analysis demonstrates a sustained increase in secondary burn reconstruction volume, both in total procedures and unique patients, over 4 consecutive years at a single academic center. These findings support continued investment in reconstructive burn surgical capacity and highlight the value of institution-level tracking to guide resource allocation and practice development.

- Human CD1c-autoreactive T-cells recognise Mycobacterium tuberculosis-infected antigen-presenting cells and display cytotoxic effector programmes. [Journal Article]Elife. 2026 Oct 05; 15.E
- Tuberculosis (TB), caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), remains the leading cause of death from infection globally yet the contribution of non-classical T-cell pathways to human immunity remains poorly defined. CD1c-autoreactive T-cells, which recognise self-lipids presented by the antigen-presenting molecule CD1c, are frequent in human blood but their role during infection remains unclear…
