- Nasal In Situ Hydrogels: A Boon For Anti-Emetic Drug Delivery. [Review]Crit Rev Ther Drug Carrier Syst. 2026; 43(3):1-53.CR
- Nasal route presents an alternative avenue for achieving local or systemic drug effects owing to its non-invasiveness, expansive surface area, rapid drug absorption, and circumvention of first-pass effect. It offers a promising route for brain targeting too, as it bypasses the blood-brain barrier, thus facilitating direct nose to brain drug delivery. However, traditional routes of administering a…

- Perioperative Outcomes of Acute Normovolemic Hemodilution in Cardiac Surgery: Evidence From Randomized Controlled Trials. [Journal Article]Cardiol Rev. 2026 Oct 14. [Online ahead of print]CR
- Acute normovolemic hemodilution (ANH) is a blood conservation strategy used in cardiac surgery, but its efficacy in reducing allogeneic blood transfusion remains debated. This systematic review and meta-analysis updates the existing evidence by incorporating recent randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to provide a contemporary assessment of ANH's impact on perioperative transfusion outcomes. We se…

- PF4 drives mechanical overload-induced temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis through TLR2-dependent activation of NF-κB. [Journal Article]J Transl Med. 2026 Jul 22; 24(1).JT
- CONCLUSIONS: We delineate a novel mechanotransduction pathway in TMJOA, where overload-induced PF4 acts as an alarmin that signals through TLR2 to activate the canonical NF-κB cascade, a process further amplified by the downstream regulator BCL3, ultimately disrupting cartilage homeostasis. This work establishes the PF4-TLR2-NF-κB axis as a crucial pathogenic driver and a promising therapeutic target for load-related TMJ degeneration.

- Banned here, sold elsewhere: globalization, e-commerce and the continuing circulation of asbestos-containing products. [Letter]Environ Health. 2026 Oct 14; 25(1).EH
- Despite widespread recognition of its carcinogenicity and bans in many countries, asbestos remains a persistent global public health challenge. Regulatory fragmentation, transnational trade, and the rapid expansion of digital marketplaces continue to facilitate the circulation of asbestos-containing materials (ACM) across national borders. While all forms of asbestos, including chrysotile are pro…

- Levothyroxine dose requirements, oral bioavailability and gut microbiome enterotype dynamics during the early post-bariatric period: a single-centre, prospective, cohort study. [Journal Article]BMC Endocr Disord. 2026 Oct 12; 26(1).BE
- CONCLUSIONS: Bariatric surgery was associated with substantial metabolic improvement, increased LT4 requirements, increased systemic FT4 exposure, and changes in gut microbiome composition. The observed microbiome-LT4 association was modest and should be considered exploratory and hypothesis-generating rather than causal. These findings highlight the need for individualized thyroid function monitoring and LT4 dose adjustment during the postoperative period.

- Preoperative C-Reactive Protein to Albumin Ratio Is Associated With Incremental Prognostic Information Beyond EuroSCORE II After Isolated Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery. [Journal Article]J Cardiothorac Vasc Anesth. 2026 Sep 19. [Online ahead of print]JC
- CONCLUSIONS: Preoperative CAR was independently associated with both in-hospital and 1-year mortality after isolated CABG and provided incremental prognostic information beyond EuroSCORE II in the present cohort. Rather than replacing EuroSCORE II, it provides complementary prognostic information by capturing inflammatory and nutritional dimensions not represented in conventional surgical risk models. External multicenter validation is warranted before routine clinical implementation.

- Association of venous thromboembolism prophylaxis with postoperative bleeding in bariatric surgery: an observational study. [Journal Article]Surg Obes Relat Dis. 2026 Sep 21. [Online ahead of print]SO
- CONCLUSIONS: A standardized VTE prophylaxis protocol using a higher intraoperative enoxaparin dose but lower total once daily dose was not superior to a twice daily regimen in regards to the frequency of clinically significant bleeding. These results suggest that protocolized prophylaxis can be applied safely but that patients with lower preoperative weights may be at a higher risk of bleeding and warrant dose adjustment.

- Laparoscopic Left Renal Vein Transposition for Nutcracker Syndrome: A Single-Center Case Series. [Journal Article]Ann Vasc Surg. 2026 Oct 13. [Online ahead of print]AV
- CONCLUSIONS: Laparoscopic left renal vein transposition appears to be a safe and effective treatment option for selected patients with symptomatic nutcracker syndrome. The minimally invasive approach provides favorable clinical outcomes with acceptable perioperative morbidity; however, long-term follow-up remains essential because of the risk of anastomotic occlusion and symptom recurrence. Further multicenter studies with larger patient cohorts are required to better define optimal treatment strategies.

- Preoperative Risk-assessment Score for Elective Total Aortic Arch Repair: AAORTA Risk Tool. [Journal Article]Aorta (Stamford). 2026 Oct 13; 14(CP). [Online ahead of print]A
- CONCLUSIONS: The AAORTA score can accurately stratify 90-day mortality risk in patients who undergo elective TAR, using only five variables easily acquired during standard preoperative evaluation. This score could be used to aid preoperative counseling with patients and families. Prospective multicenter validation will help establish its generalizability.
