- [Effects of simulated combined visual acuity and visual field impairments on obstacle avoidance walking and searching abilities]. [Randomized Controlled Trial]Zhonghua Yan Ke Za Zhi. 2026 Oct 11; 62(10):833-843.ZY
- Objective: To investigate the interactive effects of combined visual acuity and visual field impairments on obstacle avoidance walking and searching abilities. Methods: A randomized controlled trial was conducted. Healthy volunteers with normal visual acuity and visual fields were recruited from the Eye Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University between March and September 2024. Binocular presented v…

- Mapping supportive sociopsychosexual healthcare for patients with prostate cancer: a scoping review. [Journal Article]Sex Med Rev. 2026 Sep 30; 14(4).SM
- CONCLUSIONS: Sexual health care interventions for patients with prostate cancer have developed into multidimensional approaches, but relational support, adaptive procedures, and implementation pathways remain variably specified. Future progress should focus on earlier integration of sexual health care into prostate cancer care and on implementation-oriented evidence to support sustainable service delivery.

- Retrospective Evaluation of the D-Dimer in Patients Undergoing CTPA for PE Evaluation. [Journal Article]Acad Radiol. 2026 Oct 09. [Online ahead of print]AR
- CONCLUSIONS: When analyzed as a continuous variable, elevated D-dimer levels were associated with PE. Our findings also suggest that the D-dimer is more widely used in the diagnostic workup in those at low risk of PE, likely in a "rule out" manner. Future work should evaluate D-dimer utilization, laboratory levels, and clinical probability scores of those with suspected PE in groups that did and did not undergo CTPA.

- CONCLUSIONS: Survival for patients with cancer metastatic to the eye, which remains extremely poor, did not improve significantly from 1979 to 2018. Breast and lung cancer remain the predominant primary cancers and are followed by gastrointestinal, hematologic, and genitourinary cancers. Based on available but incomplete data, treatment improves or maintains vision and shrinks metastases in most patients.

- Multicenter Outcomes of Peripheral Vascular Interventions in Patients with Active Cancer. [Journal Article]J Vasc Surg. 2026 Oct 09. [Online ahead of print]JV
- CONCLUSIONS: Active cancer affects a small proportion of patients undergoing PVI but has a significant impact on perioperative limb outcomes and long-term survival. This multicenter collaboration, combining registry data and EMR review, can shed light on less common risk factors affecting lower extremity revascularization.

- Evaluation of Active Surveillance Testing for Candidozyma (Candida) auris and Impact on Infection Control Behaviors in an Acute Healthcare System. [Journal Article]Am J Infect Control. 2026 Oct 09. [Online ahead of print]AJ
- CONCLUSIONS: AST facilitated early identification of colonized or infected patients and supported systemic surveillance of C. auris, while behavioral assessment identified opportunities to strengthen adherence to core IPC practices. These findings demonstrate the value of integrating epidemiologic and behavioral evaluation when assessing IPC programs.

- A rapid systematic review of palliative uses of ketamine for depression and pain in people living with advanced cancer. [Systematic Review]Ann Palliat Med. 2026 Sep; 15(5):77.AP
- CONCLUSIONS: Ketamine may alleviate refractory pain, depression, and acute cancer‑related pain, but findings remain inconsistent, particularly considering the negative randomized trial. More rigorous, practice‑aligned research is needed to define ketamine's benefits, potential synergistic effects, and the role of supportive psychotherapy in palliative care. Palliative care clinicians should cautiously consider time-limited, individualized trials of ketamine for cancer patients with high symptom burden.

- Histopathological Patterns in Bullous Dermatitis Artefacta: A Retrospective Case Series. [Journal Article]Am J Dermatopathol. 2026 Oct 09. [Online ahead of print]AJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Dermatologists are uniquely positioned to diagnose and manage DA. Nevertheless, when clinical diagnosis is inconclusive, recognition of these histopathological patterns may provide valuable diagnostic clues for dermatopathologists evaluating biopsies from patients with suspected DA.

- Orbital Fracture Repair Materials: Research Hotspots, Clinical Applications, and Emerging Technologies. [Journal Article]J Craniofac Surg. 2026 Oct 09. [Online ahead of print]JC
- Orbital fractures, particularly of the medial and inferior walls, often require precise reconstruction to restore orbital volume and prevent enophthalmos, diplopia, and facial deformity. The selection of repair material, ranging from titanium meshes and porous polyethylene to resorbable polymers and tissue-engineered scaffolds, is therefore central to surgical success, yet a clinically oriented s…

- The Now and Then: Integrating Current and Historical Data in Small Multiple Time Series Visualization. [Journal Article]IEEE Trans Vis Comput Graph. 2026 Oct 09; PP. [Online ahead of print]IT
- Small multiple time series visualizations are often used for real-time data monitoring tasks in high-impact domains such as healthcare and manufacturing. Effective design is critical because users rely on these visualizations to monitor data from many entities, such as patients or machines, often while distracted. Users may need to rapidly appraise current values for each entity, monitoring for t…

- Comparisons of immediate efficacy of cryoneurolysis and phenol neurolysis in spasticity reduction using Modified Ashworth Scale after brain injury: A retrospective cohort study. [Journal Article]PM R. 2026 Oct 09. [Online ahead of print]PM R
- CONCLUSIONS: Cryoneurolysis and phenol neurolysis both produced significant immediate reductions in spasticity as measured by the MAS in patients with brain injury. Cryoneurolysis and phenol neurolysis demonstrated comparable effectiveness for acute spasticity management in a rehabilitation setting. Future prospective studies should assess longer-term outcomes, tolerability profiles, and cost-effectiveness to guide optimal technique selection.

- Measuring the Wrong Variable: The Case for an Inflammatory Burden Axis in Oral-Systemic Research. [Journal Article]J Periodontal Res. 2026 Oct 09. [Online ahead of print]JP
- Oral-systemic research often proposes an inflammatory mechanism while relying on measures of accumulated periodontal destruction; because staging records largely irreversible past damage, a treated and stable patient remains classified as Stage III while a patient with less destruction carries a substantially greater current inflammatory burden. This Perspective proposes an inflammatory burden ax…

- As a widely used herbal medicine, the quality of Atractylodis macrocephalae Rhizoma (AMR) is significantly influenced by cultivation practices. However, systematic evaluations comparing the quality of AMR derived from different supply chain sources remain insufficient. This two-year study, conducted in the Daodi region of Pan'an County, Zhejiang Province, comprehensively evaluated AMR samples fro…
