- Trends in the Dispensing of Adult ADHD Medications. [Journal Article]Ir Med J. 2026 Sep 28; 119(8):157.IM
- To examine patterns of stimulant ADHD medications to adults in Ireland between 2015 and 2024, under community drug schemes. We aimed to describe changes over time across age groups, demographic characteristics, and geographic areas.
- Do Stimulants Promote Arrhythmic Risk: Insights From a Human-Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell-Derived Cardiomyocyte Model. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: At clinically relevant plasma concentrations, stimulants modulated automaticity and repolarization but had minimal impact on conduction in hiPSC-CMs. The preservation of CV suggests that these compounds are unlikely to alter myocardial conduction at therapeutic doses. The observed effects on BR and FPDc warrant further mechanistic studies to understand how these changes may contribute to arrhythmia risk in susceptible populations.

- Pattern of medication dispensations for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder in Manitoba children, adolescents and young: a population-wide retrospective study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Stimulant and non-stimulant dispensations for ADHD increased from 2015 to 2023, consistent with international findings. The increase was observed to be the greatest in the population 19 to 24 years of age and females. While there was a significant increase in most ADHD medications, there was a pronounced increase in lisdexamphetamine and guanfacine, specifically.

- Acute lipopolysaccharide (LPS) treatment in male mice exacerbates dextroamphetamine-induced hyperlocomotion without detectable changes in nucleus accumbens dopaminergic activity. [Journal Article]Brain Behav Immun. 2026 Sep 20; 139:107026. [Online ahead of print]BB
- Immune system activation contributes to the pathophysiology of multiple psychiatric disorders, including schizophrenia. A substantial subgroup of people with schizophrenia are characterised by increased central and peripheral cytokine levels, and a tendency towards more severe symptoms and dopamine-targeting antipsychotic treatment resistance. Previous studies have shown an association between in…

- Study on the toxicokinetics and in vivo distribution of benzylpiperazine (BZP) and 1-(3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)piperazine (TFMPP) after single and combined administration in Wistar rats. [Journal Article]Drug Chem Toxicol. 2026 Sep 14; :1-8. [Online ahead of print]DC
- Benzylpiperazine (BZP) and 1-(3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)piperazine (TFMPP) are early‑appearing piperazine‑type new psychoactive substances (NPSs) frequently detected in ecstasy. Their combined use produces cardiovascular stimulation (hypertension and tachycardia) comparable to dextroamphetamine, yet data on their toxicokinetics and tissue distribution are scarce. We investigated the pharmacokinet…

- Cannabigerol, a minor phytocannabinoid, prevents behavioral changes induced by psychotomimetic drugs. [Journal Article]Prog Neuropsychopharmacol Biol Psychiatry. 2026 Aug 30; 149:111903.PN
- Cannabigerol (CBG) is a phytocannabinoid present in the plant Cannabis sativa that, similar to cannabidiol (CBD), does not cause psychotomimetic effects. It has shown potential therapeutic effects for relieving pain, inflammation, and anxiety, and it possesses antioxidant and neuroprotective properties. To date, few studies have investigated the potential of CBG in animal models of schizophrenia.…

- Time Trends in Maternal Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and Medication Use in Pregnancy. [Journal Article]J Clin Psychiatry. 2026 Aug 12; 87(3).JC
- Background: Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is increasingly recognized among women of reproductive age. Little is known about time trends in maternal ADHD, and treatment utilization in this group.

- Prescribed alternative stimulants among people who use unregulated stimulants: Examining the association between maximum dose reached and medication discontinuation in the first 3 years of implementation in British Columbia, Canada. [Journal Article]Addiction. 2026 Aug 20. [Online ahead of print]A
- CONCLUSIONS: Doses of stimulant prescribed alternatives (dextroamphetamine and methylphenidate) that reach 60 mg or more per day appear to be associated with longer treatment episodes than lower doses. Discontinuation is high across both medications. Concurrent opioid agonist treatment appears to be associated with a lower hazard of discontinuation. Dosing alone is unlikely to sustain long-term engagement for all patients.

- Pharmacokinetics at Different Application Sites and Dermal Safety Analysis of Dextroamphetamine Transdermal System (d-ATS) in Healthy Adults and Patients with ADHD. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: d-ATS's benefits as an additional treatment option for ADHD in children, adolescents, and adults likely outweigh any minor irritation concerns. Transdermal delivery confers practical advantages, and the range of bioequivalent application sites can help minimize dermal irritation. d-ATS's efficacy has been established in prior clinical studies and published elsewhere. Overall, d-ATS represents a valuable, flexible treatment option for children and adolescents with ADHD.

- Pooled analysis assessing the efficacy and safety of amphetamine derivative adjunctive therapy for bipolar depression. [Journal Article]J Affect Disord. 2026 Dec 01; 414:122257.JA
- CONCLUSIONS: In this pooled controlled analysis, 8-week adjunctive amphetamine was associated with reduction in depressive symptoms in carefully selected patients with bipolar depression, with no increased risk of treatment-emergent mania/hypomania. Further studies are encouraged to identify clinical correlates of treatment response guiding clinicians when to consider this potentially effective treatment.

- Intermediate doses of d -amphetamine promote perseverative risky choices following the presentation of win-paired cues. [Journal Article]Behav Pharmacol. 2026 Oct 01; 37(5):238-248.BP
- Choosing a relatively large reward with a lower chance of payoff compared with a relatively small reward with a higher chance of payoff can be operationalized as a risky choice. Risky choices are often observed in humans through gambling. Gambling disorder is characterized by excessive gambling that results in detrimental personal, social, and financial outcomes. - A Randomised Open-Label Comparison of Dexamphetamine and Methylphenidate in Children With Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD): Symptom Response, Adherence and Weight Impact Over 12 Months. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: Stimulant medications dexamphetamine and methylphenidate appear comparable in short-term symptom response and 12-month persistence after initial randomised allocation, but dexamphetamine may be associated with greater weight loss.

- Analyses of dextroamphetamine and its metabolites in human urine by capillary electrophoresis with diode array and capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detection (CE-DAD-C4D). [Journal Article]
- Dextroamphetamine is a psychostimulant widely used in the treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and as a model compound in clinical toxicology and pharmacokinetic studies, and some studies report its use in cocaine dependence treatment. The present work describes the development and validation of a capillary electrophoresis (CE) method coupled with diode array (DAD) and capacitive…

- ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition marked by persistent symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. The gold standard pharmacotherapy for the treatment of ADHD is CNS psychostimulants. However, a shortage of CNS psychostimulants used for the treatment of ADHD has persisted since 2022, and many patients have been forced to switch medications or have been unable to obtain medicatio…
