- Tibiotarsal mechanical behaviour is mainly a function of bone structure and not mineral density in female adolescent chickens. [Journal Article]Front Bioeng Biotechnol. 2026; 14:1812701.FB
- CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that, similar to what has been shown in humans, bone structure and not just mineral density is a critical determinant of mechanical behaviour and therefore fracture risk. We identify structural outcomes that can be candidates for genetic selection, targeting improved bone strength, a subset of which may adapt to loading in brown-feathered chickens. We also present a novel (in the poultry science field) approach to assess the relationship between bone structure and mechanical behaviour, which can be further used to inform genetic selection and breeding for improved bone strength and fracture resistance.

- Laboratory-based case finding using phosphate and alkaline phosphatase to identify genetic and nutritional rickets in children. [Journal Article]Front Endocrinol (Lausanne). 2026; 17:1899612.FE
- CONCLUSIONS: Laboratory-based case finding using phosphorus and alkaline phosphatase may help identify pediatric bone metabolism disorders, including forms of rickets. Combined hypophosphatemia and elevated alkaline phosphatase may be useful for guiding etiological investigation. This approach may complement clinical evaluation and facilitate earlier diagnosis. Early identification is clinically relevant because treatments can modify disease course and reduce long-term complications in children with confirmed forms of rickets, when appropriate.

- Engineering elasticity in a brittle photoluminescent organic semiconductor via template-directed cocrystallization. [Journal Article]Chem Commun (Camb). 2026 Oct 13. [Online ahead of print]CC
- We introduce a cocrystallization-based strategy to impart mechanical compliance to otherwise brittle organic semiconductor (OSC) crystals. While 9,10-bis((E)-2-(pyridin-3-yl)vinyl)anthracene (BP3VA) forms brittle crystals as a pure component, it becomes elastic upon cocrystallization with a series of trihalophenols (3X-ph-OH, X = Br, Cl, I). The structural buffering elements of the trihalophenols…
