- Where should hip spica casting be performed for femoral shaft fractures in children aged 2-5 years: Emergency department or operating room? A retrospective comparative cohort study. [Journal Article]J Orthop Surg (Hong Kong). 2026; 34(3):10225536261498552.JO
- IntroductionThis study compared emergency department hip spica casting under procedural sedation with operating room casting under general anesthesia and fluoroscopic guidance for femoral shaft fractures in children aged 2-5 years.MethodsThis retrospective comparative cohort included 87 children treated between January 2021 and December 2025: 42 in the emergency department (Group 1) and 45 in the…

- Comparison of two immobilization techniques for radiological outcomes in fifth metacarpal neck fractures: a prospective controlled study. [Journal Article]Eur J Trauma Emerg Surg. 2026 Oct 14; 52(1).EJ
- CONCLUSIONS: JPS was associated with greater immediate angular correction and more favourable final radiographic outcomes than UGS but did not reduce subsequent loss of reduction during immobilisation. Because functional and patient-reported outcomes were not assessed, the clinical relevance of these radiographic differences remains uncertain.

- Radiological and Functional Outcomes of Joshi External Stabilization System (JESS) in Proximal Tibia Fractures: A Case Series. [Journal Article]Indian J Orthop. 2026 Oct; 60(10):2822-2830.IJ
- CONCLUSIONS: The JESS is a useful option in high energy fractures with compromised soft tissues consistent with the principles of damage-control orthopaedics for the management of TPF. It offers good functional outcomes with a relatively low complication rate where plating may not be feasible as an early management. More studies with higher levels of evidence are required for validation of the results of this study.

- [A Proof-of-Concept Study of Intelligent Chinese Medicine Splint for Distal Radius Fracture]. [Journal Article]Zhongguo Yi Liao Qi Xie Za Zhi. 2026 Sep 30; 50(5):541-548.ZY
- Distal radius fracture (DRF) usually adopts static fixation method, which often leads to complications such as abnormal fracture healing and pressure injury. The reason lies in the lack of real-time regulation of fixed pressure and biomechanical feedback, which affects the functional recovery. Our team designed an intelligent and adaptive orthopedic equipment. Based on the patient's personalized …

- Saving the Limb-Tissue Collectors, Growth Factors, and Antibiotics in a War Injury. [Journal Article]Z Orthop Unfall. 2026 Oct 12. [Online ahead of print]ZO
- As a life-saving procedure, limb amputation is frequently indicated in severe war injuries, especially in suboptimal medical supply. We report of a 56-year-old Ukrainian male who was wounded on the battlefield by an air attack during Russian early invasion in Zaporizhzhia. The blast injury caused a critical soft-tissue defect of the lower leg combined with comminuted fractures of the tibia and fi…

- A Step-by-Step Protocol for Manual Reduction and Splint Immobilization of Distal Radius Fractures. [Case Reports]J Vis Exp. 2026 Oct 09; (236).JV
- Distal radius fractures (DRFs) are among the most common upper extremity fractures encountered in clinical practice. Closed reduction followed by external immobilization remains a fundamental treatment approach; however, the procedure is highly operator-dependent and lacks standardization. This article presents a step-by-step protocol for manual reduction and four-splint immobilization using vola…

- Morpho-histological Analysis of the Ultrastructure of the Dupuytren Cord Subjected to Progressive Distraction Using an External Fixator. [Journal Article]Hand (N Y). 2026 Oct 09; :15589447261487485. [Online ahead of print]H
- CONCLUSIONS: Progressive distraction induces substantial remodeling of Dupuytren disease cords, resulting in a more cellular and structurally organized extracellular matrix. These findings suggest that mechanical stimulation contributes not only to contracture correction but also to modification of the underlying fibrotic architecture, potentially improving surgical handling and providing a more favorable structural substrate for subsequent surgical intervention.

- Multimodal Biological Augmentation with Umbilical Cord Mesenchymal Stem Cell Secretome, Recombinant Human Bone Morphogenetic Protein-2, and Allogeneic Umbilical Cord Mesenchymal Stem Cells in Neurofibromatosis Type 1-Confirmed Congenital Pseudarthrosis of the Distal Tibia and Fibula: A Case Report with Mechanistic Scoping Review. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: Tibial callus measured 9.88 mm at 6 months (equalling diaphyseal width) with no graft resorption. At 8 months, tibial bridging callus was sufficient to permit Ilizarov frame removal without refracture. The distal tibial pseudarthrosis was stabilized with retained K-wires; the fibula received no internal fixation and showed no ongoing healing. No infection or hardware complication occurred. This case is, to our knowledge, the first to describe this quadruple augmentation protocol and a two-stage secretome delivery strategy in CPT, providing a hypothesis-generating proof of concept for future translational investigation.

- Management of Severe Knee Flexion Contracture of 140° with Fibrous Ankylosis in a Resource-Limited Setting: A Case Report. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: This case demonstrates that complex knee contractures in resource-limited settings can be successfully managed by distal femur osteotomy, acute shortening, uniplanar dynamic external fixation, and soft tissue reconstruction.

- Single-Stage Fixation of Bilateral Open Medial Hoffa Fractures Associated with Bilateral Patella Fracture and Bilateral Distal Radius Fractures: A Case Report. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: In selected polytrauma patients who respond adequately to resuscitation, single-stage definitive fixation can be considered after urgent vascular compromise has been addressed. Individualized fixation, meticulous soft-tissue management, and coordinated rehabilitation are essential for a favorable outcome.

- Staged external fixation and dorsal mini-plate fixation for a distal radius fracture with an overlying volar burn. [Case Reports]
- Burns combined with fractures are uncommon and become particularly challenging when the burn overlies the surgical corridor. We report a 51-year-old woman with an intra-articular distal radius fracture and an overlying deep volar ulnar wrist burn (deep partial-thickness to full-thickness) after jumping from a second floor during a house fire. A spanning external fixator was applied through unburn…

- Costs and health-related quality of life of non-operative and surgical treatment modalities for displaced distal radius fractures: a comprehensive overview based on the CAST study. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: This study provides a descriptive overview of societal costs of displaced DRF treatment. Non-operative treatment is least costly. The cost differences between direct and delayed plate fixation is €58 in favor of direct plate fixation. Starting with non-operative treatment and later deciding whether to proceed with operative treatment based on alignment changes during follow-up, could reasonably be considered as a treatment option. HRQoL improved in all groups.

- Combined Intramedullary-External K-Wire Fixation for Phalangeal Fractures: Description of a Surgical Technique. [Review]
- Although early mobilization is essential for functional recovery after phalangeal fractures, many fixation methods still require prolonged immobilization, increasing the risk of joint stiffness. We herein describe a simple, safe, and low-cost technique that combines intramedullary Kirschner wires (K-wires) with external connection, adapted from the Ulson method, which was originally developed for…
