- Ocular injuries caused by Japanese black bears: a 10-year retrospective analysis of severity and clinical outcomes. [Journal Article]Front Med (Lausanne). 2026; 13:1922412.FM
- CONCLUSIONS: Among bear-related ocular injuries referred to our department over the past 10 years, half involved globe rupture, with the majority occurring in mountainous areas. As bear-related trauma may continue to increase in northern Japan, the establishment of regional management protocols and multidisciplinary collaboration is warranted.

- Real-World Clinical Outcomes and Corticosteroid Tapering in Telitacicept-Based Therapy for Ocular Myasthenia Gravis: An Exploratory Analysis by Prior Treatment History. [Multicenter Study]Brain Behav. 2026 Oct; 16(10):e71816.BB
- CONCLUSIONS: In this exploratory cohort, telitacicept-based therapy may represent a promising option for OMG, with favorable clinical outcomes, substantial prednisone dose reduction, and acceptable short-term tolerability in patients with different prior treatment histories. Further prospective controlled studies are warranted.

- Post-treatment residual masses in orbital lymphoma: incidence, risk factors, and prognostic impact. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Post-treatment RMs were common in OL, particularly among individuals with advanced-stage, large, or posteriorly located tumours. Among those with RMs, AJCC N1 stage and high-grade histology were independent predictors of relapse. Given the risk of relapse despite standard first-line therapy, intensified treatment and closer surveillance should be considered in this high-risk subgroup.

- Uveitis as a Correlate of Systemic Manifestations in Patients Diagnosed with Behçet's Disease. [Journal Article]Ocul Immunol Inflamm. 2026 Oct 08; :1-8. [Online ahead of print]OI
- CONCLUSIONS: Within the constraints of an EMR-based study, our results indicate a significantly higher risk for extraocular manifestations and an overall more severe disease course for PDBD with uveitis than for those without. Our findings provide rationale for confirmation in cohorts outside of big data and justify an intensified multidisciplinary clinical approach to ocular PDBD to prevent, detect, and treat the associated systemic disease.

- Ocular trauma presentations to a tertiary emergency department: Demographic characteristics, injury mechanisms, and clinical outcomes. [Journal Article]Ulus Travma Acil Cerrahi Derg. 2026 Oct; 32(10):1201-1210.UT
- CONCLUSIONS: Ocular trauma predominantly affected young males and was most commonly caused by foreign bodies. Corneal abrasion was the most frequent finding. Most cases involved isolated ocular trauma, did not require CT, and were discharged from the emergency department. Female sex, pediatric and geriatric age groups, low GCS scores, and trauma related to falls or traffic accidents were associated with increased surgical intervention and hospitalization.

- Orbital soft-tissue remodeling after bony decompression in thyroid-associated orbitopathy: a CT-based analysis of extraocular muscles volume. [Journal Article]J Craniomaxillofac Surg. 2026 Oct 06; 54(12):109922. [Online ahead of print]JC
- The study evaluated changes in extraocular muscles (EOMs) following orbital decompression in patients with thyroid-associated orbitopathy (TAO) using computed tomography (CT)-based volumetric analysis. Patients who underwent orbital decompression with available preoperative and postoperative orbital CT scans were retrospectively reviewed. Decompression procedures were classified as medial, infero…

- Post Hoc MRI Analysis of Orbital Soft Tissue Volumes Pre- and Post-Teprotumumab in Patients with Chronic, Low-Activity Thyroid Eye Disease. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: MRI demonstrated that teprotumumab effectively reduces orbital soft tissue, facial fat, and lacrimal gland volumes in study and fellow orbits of patients with chronic, low-activity TED.

- Optimal Timing for Surgical Intervention in Orbital Fracture Management: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. [Review]J Maxillofac Oral Surg. 2026 Oct; 25(5):1291-1302.JM
- CONCLUSIONS: Early surgical repair within 7-14 days offers the most favorable functional recovery in orbital fractures, though individualized timing remains essential based on defect size, entrapment severity, and clinical presentation.

- Galactokinase 1 Positively Regulates Mitochondrial Respiration by Phosphorylating TIMM13 as a Protein Kinase. [Journal Article]
- Galactokinase 1 (GALK1) is a metabolic kinase that phosphorylates galactose. Mutations in GALK1 cause type II galactosemia, which manifests as cataracts and extra-ocular symptoms. The mechanisms underlying these symptoms are not fully understood. In this study, we explored a novel function of GALK1 beyond galactose phosphorylation. GALK1 is ubiquitously expressed across human tissues, regardless …

- Finite Element Analysis of Extraocular Muscle and Adipose-Dominant Pathogenesis in Thyroid Eye Disease With Clinical Implications. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Muscle-predominant TED is the primary biomechanical driver of apical compression and DON risk. Adipose-predominant TED primarily causes exophthalmos with lower tractional stress on the optic nerve. Medial rectus hypertrophy is the most significant individual contributor to compressive load.

- Carotid Cavernous Fistula: A Case Report of a Rare Diagnosis and Presentation. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Sep; 18(9):e117152.C
- Periorbital swelling can differ from simple allergic conjunctivitis, orbital cellulitis, and cavernous sinus thrombosis, as well as rapidly expanding retrobulbar hemorrhage. An uncommon cause is the carotid-cavernous fistula (CCF), an abnormal arteriovenous connection between the carotid artery and the cavernous sinus. CCFs can cause periorbital swelling, diplopia, cranial nerve palsies, and ulti…

- Human T-lymphotropic Virus Type 1 (HTLV-1)-Associated Uveitis Presenting With Frosted Retinal Vasculitis. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Aug; 18(8):e115414.C
- Retinal vasculitis is a manifestation observed in various forms of uveitis. However, frosted retinal vasculitis, a severe type of retinal vasculitis, is seen in only a limited number of cases, typically associated with severe infections or autoimmune inflammatory conditions. A 65-year-old woman presented to our hospital after noticing a decline in vision in both eyes over the preceding month. Exa…

- Neurophysiological monitoring of cranial nerves III and VI in endoscopic skull base surgery: scoping review and comparative study. [Journal Article]
- Intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM) of extraocular cranial nerves (EOCN) during skull base surgery has expanded to reduce post-operative neurological deficits. However, multiple techniques exist, and comparative evidence supporting their routine use in endoscopic endonasal approaches (EEA) remains limited. The aim of the study is to evaluate the reliability, signal quality, and sa…

- Medial-lateral rectus union for long standing complete third nerve palsy: a prospective interventional study from a tertiary eye care centre. [Journal Article]Strabismus. 2026 Sep 28; :1-8. [Online ahead of print]S
- CONCLUSIONS: MR-LR union is a technically feasible procedure that produces significant improvement in horizontal alignment in patients with long-standing complete third nerve palsy. However, vertical correction is limited when performed in isolation, particularly in patients with large baseline vertical deviations. No major complications were observed in this limited prospective series; however, larger studies with longer follow-up are required before definitive conclusions regarding procedural safety can be drawn.
