  • Astrocytic lipid dysregulation as an early driver of neurodegeneration. [Review]
Nat Rev Neurol. 2026 Aug; 22(8):485-497.Kim WS, Halliday GMNR
  • Astrocytes have traditionally been cast as supportive glia, but they are increasingly recognized as metabolic hubs that regulate cholesterol synthesis, fatty acid detoxification, lipid droplet dynamics and redox homeostasis in the CNS. Neurons have a limited intrinsic capacity for lipid storage and detoxification and rely heavily on astrocytes to maintain a safe lipid environment. Emerging eviden…
  • Targeting the cancer metabolism-immunity interface: update and perspectives. [Review]
Exp Hematol Oncol. 2026 Jul 02; 15(1).Di Carlo EEH
  • Metabolic crosstalk between cancer cells and immune cells is now recognized as a major determinant of immune escape and resistance to anticancer treatments. Cancer cells profoundly reshape the metabolic landscape of the tumor microenvironment, driving nutrient competition, hypoxia, and the accumulation of immunosuppressive oncometabolites that collectively blunt antitumor immunity. Effector T cel…
  • Membrane information organization at the origin of life: From interfaces to informational bodies. [Journal Article]
Biosystems. 2026 Jul; 265:105830.Sadat Rafiei SK, Asadi Anar MB
  • Membranes are usually treated as passive containers in origin-of-life models, confining prebiotic chemistry, buffering diffusion, and sustaining gradients. Here, we argue that early membranes provided the physical substrate for candidate informational bodies: boundaries whose physical properties can stabilize, store, and select patterns of interaction with the environment. Within the Membrane Inf…
  • Effects of castration on growth performance and cecal microbiota in growing raccoon dogs: an exploratory study. [Journal Article]
    BMC Vet Res. 2026 May 06; 22(1).Jiao G, Jia Y, … Xu CBV
  • CONCLUSIONS: In this exploratory study, castration was associated with reduced growth performance, altered lipid-related traits, higher apparent digestibility of crude fat and neutral detergent fiber, and shifts in cecal microbiota composition in growing raccoon dogs. The increased relative abundance of Prevotella and higher short-chain fatty acid concentrations may reflect changes in hindgut fermentation and energy utilization following castration. However, given the limited sample size and the lack of direct functional validation, these findings should be interpreted cautiously and require confirmation in larger and mechanistic studies.
