Temporomandibular joint ankylosis (TMJa) is an incapacitating disease due to the fusion of the mandibular condyle with the temporal bone, leading to restricted mouth opening. In children, early surgical intervention is required to avoid alterations in growth and irreversible facial deformity. This case report outlines the treatment of unilateral Type III bony TMJa with piezo-assisted gap arthroplasty and pedicled buccal fat pad interposition in a six-year-old female. We performed osteotomy with a piezoelectric surgical device to control bone resection and decrease the potential for injury to surrounding soft tissues and vital structures. Incision was made approximately 10 mm apart, and ipsilateral coronoidectomy of the mandible was performed to increase range of motion. Early physiotherapy was performed postoperatively to maintain functional mouth opening. The patient showed more than 20 mm mouth opening when followed up, with good functional recovery. The piezoelectric surgical technique offers an accurate, secure modern approach for the surgical management of TMJa compared to the conventional rotary instruments.

Foreign body ingestion is a common pediatric emergency, and coins are among the most frequently ingested objects. When a coin becomes lodged at the pharyngoesophageal junction, prompt removal is required to avoid perforation, mucosal injury, and airway compromise. We report the case of a five-year-old boy with a coin impacted in the upper esophagus at the level of the cricopharyngeus, successfully removed under general anesthesia using a video laryngoscope and Magill forceps without major complications. This case highlights two key educational points. First, the use of a video laryngoscope allowed the operator and supervisor to share the same view in real time, enabling immediate intraoperative guidance. Second, a structured pre-procedural briefing appeared to enhance intraoperative team performance, and a post-procedural debriefing appeared to reinforce learning outcomes. This case suggests that a structured educational approach, combined with shared visualization, may facilitate both safe management and effective teaching of infrequently performed procedures.

Force sensing and haptic feedback are increasingly important for restoring information on instrument-tissue interaction during robotic surgery, yet the development and clinical translation of this field remain incompletely characterized. This study mapped the global research landscape, intellectual structure, technological evolution, and translational trajectory of force sensing and haptic feedback in robotic surgery. Publications from January 1, 2010, through the final search date of July 30, 2026, were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection, Scopus, and PubMed. After deduplication, metadata quality control, and eligibility assessment, 2,872 publications from 960 sources were analyzed using bibliometric performance indicators, science mapping, citation-burst detection, logistic growth modeling, and exploratory topic modeling. Annual output increased from 56 publications in 2010 to 393 in 2025, with 54.46% of the corpus published during 2020-2025. Logistic modeling placed the literature within a rapid-growth phase, although the observed output in 2025 exceeded the smoothed model trajectory. China contributed the largest number of publications, whereas the United States ranked first in country-level cumulative citations. Publications involving authors from more than one country accounted for 11.98% of the corpus, indicating comparatively limited international collaboration. The knowledge structure shifted from master-slave teleoperation and bilateral control toward miniaturized force sensing, sensorized instruments, robotic palpation, sensorless force estimation, and force-aware intelligent assistance. Exploratory topic modeling did not yield sufficiently coherent or stable themes for definitive classification. Overall, the published literature suggests a shift from component-level engineering toward integrated systems and early-stage clinical evaluation; however, these bibliometric patterns should not be interpreted as evidence of established clinical effectiveness. Future research should prioritize standardized reporting, task- and tissue-specific force thresholds, independent external validation, human-factor assessment, and prospective multicenter studies.

The robotic approach has the potential to expand the advantages of minimally invasive surgery due to improved visualization, more sophisticated instruments, precise dissection, and better ergonomics. However, its benefits are not universal. For inguinal hernias, available data do not demonstrate a significant advantage over laparoscopy, particularly given the higher costs and often longer operative times. Conversely, for ventral hernias - especially large and complex defects - robotics enables advanced reconstructive techniques that are difficult to perform laparoscopically, shortens hospital stays, and reduces the incidence of complications. Indications for the robotic approach in hernia surgery are selective; study results are limited by the heterogeneity of the cohorts, short follow-up periods, and a lack of robust data. Cost-effectiveness remains debatable in our setting and depends primarily on the type of hernia. Moving forward, the creation of robust databases and the standardization of indications are key to a more accurate assessment of the true benefits of robotic surgery.
