- Superior Mesenteric Artery Thrombosis Following a Snakebite: A Rare Case. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Jun; 18(6):e111082.C
- Snakebites are common emergencies in tropical countries, usually presenting with hematotoxic, neurotoxic, or myotoxic effects. Vascular thrombosis as a systemic complication is extremely rare. We report a case of superior mesenteric artery (SMA) thrombosis following a viper bite, leading to acute mesenteric ischemia. A 39-year-old male patient presented with abdominal pain, vomiting, loose stools…

- A Life-Threatening Case of Fournier's Gangrene. [Journal Article]Clin Case Rep. 2026 Jul; 14(7):e72893.CC
- We report severe Fournier's gangrene in a 69-year-old man presenting with septic shock and extensive perineal gas on computed tomography. Enterococcus faecium was identified. Fournier's gangrene may occur without classical risk factors. Early recognition, broad-spectrum antibiotics, and urgent surgical debridement are essential to improve survival and reduce mortality.

- Strangulated transomental hernia causing small bowel obstruction in a virgin abdomen. [Case Reports]J Surg Case Rep. 2026 Jul; 2026(7):rjag586.JS
- Transomental hernia is a rare cause of small bowel obstruction and may be missed before surgery, particularly in a virgin abdomen. We report a 75-year-old woman with no previous abdominal operation who presented with 4 days of abdominal pain, vomiting, distension, constipation, and reduced urine output. She had leukocytosis and acute kidney injury. Because of renal dysfunction, computed tomograph…

- Pneumatosis Intestinalis: Identifying the Need for Surgery for Gas in the Gut Wall and Outcomes. [Journal Article]J West Afr Coll Surg. 2026 Jul-Sep; 16(3):297-302.JW
- CONCLUSIONS: PI, though rare, must be recognized early to improve outcomes. Surgical intervention is necessary in cases with ischaemia on CECT abdomen. They have high mortality rates even after surgical intervention. Patients having long-term onset of symptoms with healthy bowels can be managed conservatively.

- A Case of Naja atra Bite Complicated by Gas Gangrene Leading to Amputation: Pathogen and Management Lessons. [Journal Article]Clin Case Rep. 2026 Jul; 14(7):e73047.CC
- Gas gangrene after a Naja atra bite may be caused by Enterococcus faecalis from the snake's mouth, which is resistant to ceftriaxone. Emergency management must include early, aggressive surgical debridement and antibiotics effective against this organism (e.g., piperacillin-tazobactam) to prevent amputation.

- Clinical characteristics and factors associated with progressive pulmonary fibrosis in patients with systemic sclerosis-associated interstitial lung disease. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: In patients with SSc-associated ILD, PPF was associated with prominent vascular manifestations and mixed NSIP-UIP. These findings underscore the heterogeneity of SSc-ILD and highlight the importance of close and longitudinal pulmonary function monitoring to identify disease progression. Key Points • ILD is common in systemic sclerosis, and a subset of patients with SSc-ILD develop PPF. • Patients with PPF more frequently exhibit vascular manifestations and distinct radiologic features, including mixed NSIP-UIP. • Regular longitudinal monitoring with pulmonary function tests is essential for early detection of disease progression in SSc-ILD.

- Disseminated Peritoneal Nematode Infestation Causing Adhesive Small Bowel Obstruction and Bowel Gangrene Following Perforated Appendicitis: A Case Report. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Jun; 18(6):e110568.C
- Disseminated peritoneal nematode infestation is a rare extra-intestinal manifestation of ascariasis, typically occurring following bowel perforation. We report a case of a male in his 60s presenting with features of acute small bowel obstruction, including abdominal pain, distension, obstipation, and bilious vomiting, with a history of perforated appendicitis managed surgically six months prior. …

- CONCLUSIONS: This case illustrates that urgent source control and physiology-guided staged reconstruction can achieve good outcomes in severe cecal volvulus, even in a resource-limited referral hospital without CT or pathology services.

- Acquired cystic disease-associated renal cell carcinoma mimicking gallbladder carcinoma. [Case Reports]Urol Case Rep. 2026 Jul; 67:103526.UC
- A 58-year-old woman on long-term hemodialysis underwent computed tomography for diabetic foot gangrene, which revealed a mass adjacent to the gallbladder, suggesting gallbladder carcinoma. Magnetic resonance imaging also suggested a gallbladder tumor. At laparotomy, the lesion was found to originate from the right kidney, and right nephrectomy was performed. Histopathological and immunohistochemi…

- Ulcerative Colitis-Associated Vasculopathy Mimicking Antineutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibody (ANCA)-Associated Vasculitis. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Jun; 18(6):e110374.C
- Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory condition with recognized extraintestinal manifestations, including a prothrombotic state that can result in both venous and arterial complications. While venous thromboembolism is more common, arterial and microvascular thrombosis leading to digital ischemia and gangrene are rare but severe manifestations. The presence of antineutrophil cytoplasm…

- Ischiorectal abscess can rarely progress beyond the anorectal region to cause Fournier's gangrene, supralevator extension, and purulent peritonitis. Early recognition of disease progression, prompt imaging, aggressive surgical source control, and multidisciplinary management are critical to reducing morbidity and mortality in this life-threatening complication.

- Şimşek Index (Kocaeli Fournier’s Gangrene Severity Index, KFGSI): Development and Prognostic Performance of an Admission-Based Mortality Prediction Model for Fournier’s Gangrene [Journal Article]Ulus Travma Acil Cerrahi Derg. 2026 Jul; 32(7):794-802.UT
- CONCLUSIONS: The KFGSI demonstrated excellent prognostic accuracy for mortality prediction in FG and outperformed FGSI in this derivation cohort. However, external validation in multicenter populations is required. Early application of the KFGSI may enhance clinical risk stratification and support timely decision-making regarding triage and management. Prospective multicenter studies are needed to confirm its validity and establish its clinical utility.

- Prognostic value of inflammatory and metabolic markers in Fournier's gangrene: a single-center retrospective analysis. [Journal Article]Ulus Travma Acil Cerrahi Derg. 2026 Jul; 32(7):818-826.UT
- CONCLUSIONS: CRP and WBC count are practical, inexpensive, and reproducible markers of disease severity and treatment response in patients with Fournier's gangrene. Serial monitoring of these parameters may facilitate early risk stratification, guide decisions regarding repeat debridement, and support optimization of antibiotic and surgical management. Incorporation of these readily available inflammatory markers into standardized treatment protocols may improve clinical decision-making and patient outcomes in FG.

- CONCLUSIONS: Among adults with T2D and PAD, treatment with GLP-1RAs was associated with a lower risk of major limb events. There is a need of dedicated studies with standardized limb-specific endpoints to confirm the protective role of GLP-1RAs on limb events in people with T2D and PAD.
