- FIRST-VOID URINE VERSUS URETHRAL SWAB FOR MOLECULAR DETECTION OF SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTIONS IN MEN WITH MULTIPLE SEXUAL PARTNERS. [Journal Article]Georgian Med News. 2026 Jul-Aug; (376-377):246-252.GM
- CONCLUSIONS: First-void urine demonstrated equal or higher molecular detection yield than urethral swab for all four STI pathogens studied, supporting its use as a practical specimen for molecular STI testing in men with multiple sexual partners.
- Multimorbidity Patterns and Cluster Characteristics Among People Living with HIV in the Korean HIV/AIDS Cohort, 2006-2023. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Multimorbidity patterns shifted from infection-centered to metabolic and cardio-cerebrovascular disease-centered patterns with advancing age. Integrated management strategies that account for multimorbidity cluster characteristics are essential for people living with HIV.

- Antibiotic resistance mutations in Mycoplasma genitalium and non-gonococcal urethritis treatment outcomes. [Journal Article]Sex Transm Dis. 2026 Sep 15. [Online ahead of print]ST
- CONCLUSIONS: Sequential azithromycin and moxifloxacin achieved limited microbiological cure and NGU resolution. Symptom improvement despite persistent infection highlights discordance between microbiological and clinical outcomes. ParC S83I was common but did not consistently predict moxifloxacin failure. Persistent infections with combined parC, parE, and gyrB mutations suggest cumulative effects, requiring further studies.

- Clinical and microbiological characteristics of acute epididymitis in Japan: A multicenter study by the Japanese Research Group for Urinary Tract Infection. [Journal Article]J Infect Chemother. 2026 Sep 14; 32(11):103077. [Online ahead of print]JI
- CONCLUSIONS: In this Japanese multicenter study, AE predominantly affected older adults and was frequently associated with urinary tract-related or healthcare-associated backgrounds. Hospitalization was primarily associated with systemic inflammatory response. Fluoroquinolone-resistant and ESBL-producing E. coli require attention in both hospitalized patients or outpatients.

- Analysis of minimum inhibitory concentrations of azithromycin, ceftriaxone and ciprofloxacin for Neisseria gonorrhoeae from antimicrobial resistance sentinel surveillance, Germany, 2014 to 2023. [Journal Article]
- BACKGROUNDNeisseria gonorrhoeae (NG), the pathogen causing the sexually transmitted infection (STI) gonorrhoea, shows increasing antimicrobial resistance threatening recommended treatments.AIMWe examined temporal trends in antibiotic susceptibility of NG isolates in Germany and possible shifts in sexual networks.METHODSWe analysed annual data from the German antimicrobial resistance sentinel surv…

- Neisseria meningitidis-associated chronic prostatitis following oral sexual exposure: a diagnostic challenge mimicking gonococcal urethritis. [Case Reports]
- Neisseria meningitidis is an uncommon cause of genitourinary infection, and chronic prostatitis caused by this organism has rarely been reported. A 34-year-old man presented with recurrent dysuria and urethral discharge after oral sexual exposure. Initially misdiagnosed as gonococcal urethritis, the patient achieved only partial improvement after empirical therapy. Culture of midstream urine and …

- Antimicrobial Resistance in Neisseria gonorrhoeae Isolates from Men with Urethral or Urogenital Infection: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. [Systematic Review]
- Background and Objectives: Antimicrobial resistance in Neisseria gonorrheae threatens the effectiveness of empirical gonorrhoea treatment. Although global surveillance evidence is increasingly available, resistance data are not consistently reported separately for men with urethral or urogenital infection. This review evaluated antibiotic-specific resistance in N. gonorrhoeae isolates from this c…

- Persistent Urethral Burning Without Identifiable Infection: A Case Report Highlighting Diagnostic Challenges and Integrative Symptom-Oriented Management. [Case Reports]
- Persistent urethral burning without identifiable infection represents a diagnostically challenging condition in male urology and may lead to repeated empirical treatment with limited benefit. We report the case of a 35-year-old man who experienced isolated urethral burning for approximately six years after an initial urinary tract infection. Despite repeated evaluations and multiple conventional …

- Nitrofurantoin activity against Neisseria gonorrhoeae: an in vitro and in vivo study in Galleria mellonella. [Journal Article]FEMS Microbiol Lett. 2026 Jan 07; 373.FM
- We assessed the in vitro and in vivo efficacy of nitrofurantoin in a panel of Neisseria gonorrhoeae strains. Four N. gonorrhoeae strains-three WHO reference strains (WHO U, WHO P, WHO V) and a clinical isolate from a patient with symptomatic urethritis (25566) were tested for nitrofurantoin susceptibility using E-tests on GC agar. To investigate resistance emergence, each strain was serially pass…

- Pharyngeal gonorrhea in Ugandan men with urogenital gonorrhea: differences in antimicrobial resistance and strain types between anatomical sites. [Journal Article]J Infect Dis. 2026 Jul 08. [Online ahead of print]JI
- CONCLUSIONS: phNG is common in Ugandan men with uNG, both displaying high rates of AMR. Different strains at the two anatomical sites were common, supporting the need for pharyngeal testing and phNG susceptibility testing as the pharynx is a critical site for AMR emergence.

- Genomic characterisation and global phylogenomic placement of a high-level azithromycin (HL-AziR) and fluoroquinolone-resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae ST9363 strain from Chile. [Journal Article]J Glob Antimicrob Resist. 2026 Sep; 50:91-94.JG
- CONCLUSIONS: GC11/23 represents a multidrug-resistant Ng strain belonging to ST9363/NG-STAR 3194 and carrying mutations conferring resistance to fluoroquinolones, azithromycin, penicillin and tetracycline. Its phylogenetic placement within a European lineage highlights the global dissemination of HL-AziR and fluoroquinolone-resistant strains.

- Neisseria gonorrhoeae conjunctivitis is rare in adults but may rapidly progress to vision-threatening complications. Peripheral ulcerative keratitis (PUK) is an unusual and severe manifestation. A 42-year-old male presented with bilateral ocular pain, swelling, and profuse purulent discharge for 15 days, leading to inability to open his eyes. History revealed recent urethral discharge and multipl…

- Sneathia vaginalis and Sneathia sanguinegens elicit conserved inflammatory responses in a human 3D cervical cell model. [Journal Article]Microbiology (Reading). 2026 May; 172(5).M
- Sneathia species are emerging pathogens associated with adverse gynaecologic, obstetric and neonatal sequelae, including bacterial vaginosis, preterm birth, chorioamnionitis, non-gonococcal urethritis and HPV-mediated cervical carcinogenesis. Yet, their pathogenicity is poorly understood due to their fastidious nature. Here, we conducted infection assays using multiple strains of Sneathia vaginal…
