- Compatibility of toothpastes with probiotics for periodontal health: an in vitro and ex vivo study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, in vitro, colonization and biofilm modulation by probiotics are dependent on the toothpaste used. The survival of the probiotic in saliva was not affected by the toothpaste ex vivo.

- Halitosis in patients living with chronic kidney disease: An updated narrative review. [Journal Article]J Nephrol. 2026 Sep 26. [Online ahead of print]JN
- This narrative review summarized the latest findings on halitosis in patients living with chronic kidney disease (CKD), including its epidemiology, etiology, classification, contributing compounds, diagnosis and treatment. Halitosis is present in 30-57% of patients living CKD in most reports. Accumulated metabolites in the blood circulation and multiple oral changes secondary to CKD are its main …

- Halitosis: A Prospective Cohort Study Comparing Periodontal Debridement with Tongue Cleaning, Denture Biofilm Management, and Restorative Maintenance. [Journal Article]
- Background: Halitosis in elderly dental patients is rarely attributable to a single etiology; tongue coating, periodontal inflammation, denture biofilm, and reduced salivary flow may coexist and modify treatment response. We compared three procedure pathways and examined whether tongue-coating reduction mediates procedure-related improvement. Methods: A prospective cohort of 94 patients aged 65 y…

- Halitosis Misattributed to Epilepsy and Psychosis: An Adolescent Case With Diagnostic and Cultural Complexity. [Journal Article]J Pediatr Health Care. 2026 Sep 21. [Online ahead of print]JP
- CONCLUSIONS: This case highlights the importance of avoiding premature psychiatric attribution of physical symptoms through diagnostic humility, systematic reassessment, multidisciplinary collaboration, and culturally informed evaluation.

- Making periodontal risk visible: the role of artificial intelligence in recall adherence. [Journal Article]
- Supportive periodontal care is essential for maintaining periodontal stability after active therapy, yet adherence to periodontal maintenance remains difficult. Once bleeding, halitosis or other presenting concerns improve, some patients may interpret the disease as resolved and the maintenance visit as "just a clean." This Perspective uses the intention-behaviour gap to examine behavioural, fina…

- Prevotella-dominated dysbiosis and predicted suppression of sulfur biosynthesis pathways associated with halitosis in Korean adults. [Journal Article]Microbiol Spectr. 2026 Sep 16; :e0090626. [Online ahead of print]MS
- Halitosis affects a substantial proportion of adults worldwide, yet the compositional and functional basis of the oral microbiome in halitosis remains incompletely understood, particularly in East Asian populations. We performed 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing of oral gargle samples from 45 individuals with halitosis and 45 healthy controls in South Korea, generating approximately 4,600 amplico…

- Mapping the oral microbiome in children with oral diseases using next-generation sequencing: a systematic review. [Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Paediatric oral diseases are more strongly associated with condition- and niche-specific compositional alterations than with uniform diversity changes.

- Oral Adverse Effects of Semaglutide Therapy: A Narrative Review. [Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Semaglutide therapy is associated with oral adverse effects, mainly xerostomia and sensory disturbances, which may compromise oral health. Awareness of these outcomes highlights the need for interdisciplinary oral health monitoring.

- Esophagitis Dissecans Superficialis: An Uncommon Endoscopic Finding. [Case Reports]
- Esophagitis dissecans superficialis (EDS), also known as sloughing esophagitis, is a rare and frequently underrecognized esophageal disorder characterized by superficial sloughing of the esophageal mucosa. Its variable clinical presentation and overlap with structural esophageal abnormalities may result in misdiagnosis and unnecessary diagnostic or therapeutic interventions. We report a case of a…

- Dietary Sulfur Compounds and Halitosis: Bridging Food Science, Microbial Metabolism, and Oral Health: A Comprehensive Review. [Review]
- Intraoral halitosis is predominantly caused by anaerobic microbes within the tongue biofilm that break down sulfur-containing amino acids, especially cysteine and methionine, to volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs). In addition to microbial activity, there is growing evidence to suggest that dietary factors are able to influence VSC formation by affecting substrate availability, redox equilibrium, an…

- Association between oral manifestations and gastroesophageal reflux disease-related esophageal diseases: A scoping review. [Review]J Dent. 2026 Aug 27; 176:107003. [Online ahead of print]JD
- CONCLUSIONS: Current evidence suggests possible association between GERD and specific oral manifestations such as erosive tooth wear, burning mouth and halitosis. Salivary characteristics and oral microbiome are potentially associated with the spectrum of GERD-related esophageal diseases. No salivary biomarker has achieved optimal combined sensitivity and specificity.

- The Effect of a Novel Natural Oil-Pulling Oral Rinse on Oral Microflora, Dental Plaque, and Gingivitis: A Double-Blinded Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The evaluated oil-pulling oral rinse showed potential to reduce oral microbial counts and improve plaque and gingival parameters during short-term use. It presents a natural, well-tolerated alternative to conventional mouthwashes.

- A Chewing Gum Containing Heyndrickxia coagulans SNZ1969[®] and Volatile Sulphur Compounds: An Exploratory Secondary Analysis of a Double-Blind Randomized Controlled Trial. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- Background: Chewing gum may reduce oral malodor through salivary stimulation and may also serve as a carrier for oral probiotics. Evidence on Heyndrickxia coagulans in this setting is lacking. Methods: This exploratory secondary analysis used data from a randomized, blinded, placebo-controlled study in which 52 healthy adults were assigned to a sugar-free gum with H. coagulans SNZ1969[®] or to a …

- Halitosis and Its Association with Sleep Quality and Psychological Factors Among University Students: A Cross-Sectional Study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The study did not provide statistically significant evidence of associations between objectively measured halitosis and tongue coating, sleep quality, or psychological symptoms in this population. Significant positive correlations were identified between stress and sleep disturbance, anxiety and sleep disturbance, and depression and sleep latency, daytime dysfunction, and overall sleep quality. These findings highlight the importance of objectively assessing oral malodor in epidemiological studies.
