- Helicobacter and Herpesvirus detection patterns in pediatric gastric biopsies identify Epstein-Barr virus as a correlate of gastric inflammation. [Journal Article]Curr Res Microb Sci. 2026 Dec; 11:100664.CR
- The pediatric gastric mucosa harbors a diverse bacterial and viral community, and its relationship to gastric inflammation remains incompletely understood. We characterized bacterial and viral detection in gastric biopsies from 193 children undergoing endoscopy for chronic abdominal pain, analyzing 507 samples from the antrum, corpus, and incisura angularis. Molecular detection revealed frequent …

- Development and validation of a metabolic syndrome-based nomogram to predict 1-year metastasis after radiotherapy in locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma. [Journal Article]Ann Med. 2026 Dec; 58(1):2743333.AM
- CONCLUSIONS: This MetS-based nomogram enables individualized risk stratification for metastasis within one year after radiotherapy in LA-NPC. The 8.7% threshold is exploratory but promising for identifying high-risk patients for further therapy or surveillance after external validation.

- Presumed Herpesviridae-associated acute retinal necrosis in a monocular adult: A case highlighting postpartum risk. [Case Reports]Am J Ophthalmol Case Rep. 2026 Dec; 44:102661.AJ
- CONCLUSIONS: This report potentially illustrates the unpredictable course of suspected ARN, highlighting the need for aggressive empiric therapy and careful long-term surveillance. It emphasizes knowledge gaps regarding postpartum immune triggers, management strategies, and transition of pediatric ARN to adult retinal care.

- Epstein-Barr virus and hepatic failure: pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, and management. [Review]Front Immunol. 2026; 17:1982338.FI
- Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection is ubiquitous, affecting over 90% of the global population, and while typically benign, it can rarely cause acute liver failure - a life-threatening complication that is frequently fatal. This review comprehensively reviews two overlapping clinical and pathogenetic patterns of EBV-associated hepatic failure - isolated severe EBV hepatitis and EBV-triggered hemop…

- Motif-Selective DNA Recognition and Promoter-Dependent Transcriptional Repression by a Cyclic Pyrrole/Lysine Polyamide. [Journal Article]Chembiochem. 2026 Oct 14; 27(19):e70566.C
- Sequence-selective control of gene expression by synthetic DNA-binding molecules is attractive for developing chemical biology tools and potential therapeutic applications. Here we report a cyclic pyrrole/lysine polyamide (cPKP) that preferentially binds AT-rich DNA, with selective recognition of ATAT and ATGT motifs. In a HeLa nuclear extract-based transcription system, cPKP repressed transcript…

- Understanding the Immune Response Changes to Clinical Interventions for Epstein-Barr Virus Infection Prior to Lymphoma Development in Children After Organ Transplants (UNEARTH). [Journal Article]Pediatr Transplant. 2026 Oct; 30(10):e70487.PT
- CONCLUSIONS: By study end, we will know the global immune responses to EBV replication across a spectrum of clinical pediatric SOT situations. We expect to find key immune mechanisms that will predict poor or delayed EBV clearance despite clinical interventions. These findings may lead to new translational immunotherapy approaches to treat EBV DNaemia or prevent PTLD. We expect that our findings will also inform EBV oncogenesis in other immunocompromised or immunocompetent populations.

- Herpesvirus reactivation in critical illness: Pathogenesis, clinical consequences, and diagnostic challenges. [Review]Virology. 2026 Oct 05; 625:111097. [Online ahead of print]V
- Human herpesviruses (HHV) remain latent after primary infection and may reactivate during critical illness. HHV reactivation has been associated with adverse clinical outcomes, yet its pathogenic significance and optimal management remain unclear. This review summarizes the dysregulated immune mechanisms and risk factors for HHV reactivation in critical illness, treatment options, outcomes, curre…

- BackgroundGuillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) can be difficult to recognise in advanced untreated HIV, particularly where cerebrospinal fluid analysis and electrophysiology are unavailable.MethodsWe retrospectively reviewed adults with advanced HIV who were not receiving antiretroviral therapy and presented with acute symmetrical weakness at an Indian HIV specialty centre during 2019-2020. - EBV-positive Hodgkin lymphoma with an immunosuppressive microenvironment during guselkumab (interleukin-23 inhibitor) therapy for chronic plaque psoriasis. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: The short latency and atypical Th2-skewed, myeloid-enriched microenvironment, in contrast to the typical Th1-dominant profile of EBV-positive cHL, raise the possibility of immune-milieu alteration under IL-23 inhibition. This case supports continued pharmacovigilance for rare lymphomas in patients receiving IL-23 inhibitors and the need for larger studies to clarify potential class effects.

- Seroprevalence of varicella antibodies in unvaccinated children with nephrotic syndrome in disease remission. [Journal Article]
- Background and objectives Varicella-zoster (VZV) virus infection can be severe in children with nephrotic syndrome. Lack of varicella vaccination through the national immunisation programme in India leaves many vulnerable to infection. We conducted this study to document the seroprevalence of Varicella antibodies in patients with nephrotic syndrome. Methods This cross-sectional study (Oct 2024-Ma…

Method: This retrospective cohort study analyzed CMV-related events and survival outcomes in allo-HSCT recipients with CMV seropositive who received grafts from CMV-negative (CMV-negative donor group) or c…

- Varicella zoster virus meningitis with a dermatomal rash in immunocompetent hosts: a systematic review and novel case report. [Systematic Review]
- Varicella zoster virus (VZV) reactivation with central nervous system (CNS) involvement is an uncommon but important cause of lymphocytic meningitis in both immunocompromised and immunocompetent individuals. While cranial presentations, especially V1 involvement, are well documented, spinal-dermatomal VZV meningitis is rarely reported. We conducted a systematic review of PubMed, Scopus, and Embas…
