- Osteoporosis medication initiation after proximal humerus fractures is low, but associated with decreased secondary fragility fracture risk. [Journal Article]OTA Int. 2026 Dec; 9(4):e515.OI
- CONCLUSIONS: Osteoporosis medications are not commonly initiated after geriatric PHFs. OPM initiation after PHF was associated with lower rates of secondary OFF and 1-year mortality.

- Clinicopathological Spectrum and Management of Aneurysmal Bone Cysts in Atypical Anatomical Location: A Comprehensive Review of Demographics, Presentation, Diagnosis, and Treatment Outcomes. [Journal Article]J Orthop Case Rep. 2026 Oct; 16(10):571-579.JO
- CONCLUSIONS: ABCs exhibit a wide clinicopathological spectrum. In atypical anatomical locations, diagnosis requires careful clinicoradiological correlation and histopathological confirmation. Management should be individualized according to lesion biology, anatomical constraints, skeletal maturity, and functional requirements; however, treatment effectiveness and recurrence rates cannot be established reliably from the predominantly case-report-based evidence reviewed here.

- Myositis Ossificans Affecting the Rotator Cuff Muscles and Proximal Humerus: A Rare Clinical Entity. [Case Reports]J Orthop Case Rep. 2026 Oct; 16(10):73-79.JO
- CONCLUSIONS: This report concerns a single patient seen in the mature stage of disease. Long-standing pain and stiffness of the shoulder after modest trauma, without destruction of bone, was finally shown to be MO of the subscapularis and infraspinatus with change around the proximal humerus. Synovial chondromatosis and later a possible malignant change in osteochondroma had been suggested earlier. The case only reminds that this diagnosis still belongs in the differential at an uncommon site. It does not map the early course of the lesion, and it should be understood that needle biopsy may come back non-diagnostic. Open biopsy and the zonal pattern on computed tomography were what settled the matter here. As the ossification was diffuse, he was managed without excision.

- Minimally Invasive J-Nail Fixation for Neer Type 2, 3, and 4 Proximal Humerus Fractures in Elderly Patients: A Prospective Clinical and Radiological Outcome Study. [Journal Article]J Orthop Case Rep. 2026 Oct; 16(10):448-454.JO
- CONCLUSIONS: J-nail fixation is a viable minimally invasive technique for proximal humerus fractures in elderly patients, providing good functional outcomes with an acceptable complication profile. It offers advantages of minimal soft tissue disruption, preservation of vascularity, and early mobilization potential.

- Delayed Metachronous Multicentric Giant Cell Tumor of Bone after a 16-Year Disease-Free Interval: A Case Report. [Case Reports]J Orthop Case Rep. 2026 Oct; 16(10):297-301.JO
- CONCLUSIONS: There is achieved complete pain relief, returned to unrestricted functional activity, and demonstrated radiological stabilization with progressive sclerosis and no disease progression at 4-year follow-up. This case highlights the unpredictable biological behavior of GCT, the possibility of very late metachronous multicentric disease, and the potential role of bisphosphonate monotherapy as a limb-preserving treatment option in carefully selected patients.

- Humeral Fractures in Metabolically Compromised Bone: Outcomes of Structural Strut Onlay Allograft with Open Reduction and Internal Fixation - A Case Series of Three Patients. [Case Reports]J Orthop Case Rep. 2026 Oct; 16(10):186-192.JO
- CONCLUSIONS: Structural strut allograft augmentation is a versatile adjunct to ORIF for humeral fractures in bone of compromised quality. The technique can be adapted to different fracture configurations, bone pathologies, and fixation implants. These cases support its use across the spectrum of humeral fractures in metabolically deficient bone and highlight the importance of tailoring implant strategy to the underlying bone biology.

- Application of tranexamic acid during debridement for proximal-to-mid humeral chronic osteomyelitis: evaluation of blood management and infection-control safety. [Journal Article]Front Surg. 2026; 13:1933516.FS
- CONCLUSIONS: In selected patients without TXA contraindications, preoperative intravenous TXA was associated with lower perioperative blood-loss measures and shorter operative time, with no statistically detectable increase in infection-control adverse signals. No clinically diagnosed venous thromboembolic events were documented during follow-up.

- Proximal humerus fractures: A review of current management evidence and guidance on contemporary surgical strategies. [Review]Injury. 2026 Oct 02; 57(11):113748. [Online ahead of print]I
- Proximal humerus fractures (PHFs) most commonly affect elderly, osteoporotic women, although younger patients sustain them through high-energy trauma. Both incidence and the associated healthcare burden continue to rise with demographic ageing. Non-operative management is preferred for undisplaced fractures and for many elderly patients, whereas a range of internal fixation methods and arthroplas…

- Early functional and operative outcomes of three open surgical approaches compared with closed reduction and percutaneous pinning in Gartland type III pediatric supracondylar humerus fractures. [Journal Article]J Pediatr Orthop B. 2026 Oct 08. [Online ahead of print]JP
- Supracondylar humerus fractures (SHFs) are commonly treated with closed reduction and percutaneous pinning (CRPP); however, open reduction is required in selected cases. To compare early functional and operative outcomes of anterior, lateral, and posterior open reduction techniques, using CRPP as a reference standard. This retrospective study included 60 pediatric patients with Gartland type III …

- Association of perineural hydromorphone added to ropivacaine with early analgesic outcomes in proximal humerus fracture surgery: a retrospective cohort study. [Journal Article]Front Med (Lausanne). 2026; 13:1896305.FM
- CONCLUSIONS: Adding perineural hydromorphone was associated with a higher proportion of patients achieving resting VAS ≤3 at 12 h. The average VAS differences were modest and no difference was detected at 24 h. Because treatment was not randomized, these findings should be confirmed in a prospective trial.

- Age-related Humeral Retrotorsion Asymmetry in Junior Tennis Players: A Cross-sectional Ultrasound Study. [Journal Article]J Shoulder Elbow Surg. 2026 Oct 07. [Online ahead of print]JS
- CONCLUSIONS: Junior tennis players demonstrated greater dominant-arm HRA than nondominant-arm HRA, with side-to-side asymmetry becoming evident from age 10 years onward and remaining approximately 10° from age 13 years onward. These findings indicate that humeral retrotorsion asymmetry emerges during late childhood in tennis players and likely reflects altered physiologic derotation of the dominant humerus during growth. This osseous adaptation may help clinicians interpret shoulder rotational findings in young overhead athletes.

- Clinical characteristics, anatomical distribution, and diagnostic patterns of simple bone cysts in Japan: an analysis of the Japanese Bone and Soft Tissue Tumor registry. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This nationwide registry-based study provided an overview of the clinical characteristics, anatomical distribution, diagnostic patterns, and treatment strategies for simple bone cysts in Japan. Diagnostic methods and treatment strategies differed according to patient age, and surgeries were performed more frequently for long-bone lesions than for lesions at other anatomical sites.

- Round versus tape sutures with interference fit anchors perform similarly in cadaveric glenoid and greater tuberosity biomechanical testing. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Suture shape did not meaningfully influence interference-fit fixation properties in the glenoid and humeral models evaluated in this study. Tape-type and round-type sutures demonstrated comparable biomechanical performance at the suture-anchor interface within the tested constructs.
