- [Latent ureteric outlet stenosis in young adults - the diagnostic significance of functional assessment in cases of marked hydronephrosis]. [Case Reports]Praxis (Bern 1994). 2026 Sep; 115(9):267-269.P
- Congenital ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction may remain clinically compensated until young adulthood despite prenatal or early childhood diagnosis. Distinguishing morphological hydronephrosis from functionally significant obstruction is crucial for therapeutic decision-making. Case: A 25-year-old woman was found to have mild right-sided pelvicalyceal dilatation as an incidental finding dur…

- The Surgical Management of Prostate Cancer in Renal Transplant Recipients: The Minimally Invasive Approach. [Case Reports]J Vis Exp. 2026 Oct 09; (236).JV
- Patients with a renal transplant present unique anatomical challenges during pelvic surgery. The graft is typically located in the iliac fossa with vascular anastomoses to the iliac vessels and a short ureter implanted into the bladder. These features increase the risk of graft injury during radical prostatectomy, especially when lymph node dissection is planned. This case describes the experienc…

- Giant hydronephrosis due to neglected congenital pelvi-ureteric junction obstruction: a case report and literature review. [Case Reports]Int J Surg Case Rep. 2026 Oct; 138(10):4211-4216.IJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Giant hydronephrosis is mostly a consequence of neglected congenital renal anomalies in Africa. Nephrectomies may be considered in selected advanced cases. The nephrectomized patient must avoid unprescribed medications, including herbal concoctions as excretion is now dependent on a solitary kidney.

- Successful conservative management of high-grade renal injury in a polytrauma patient: a rare case report. [Case Reports]Int J Surg Case Rep. 2026 Oct; 138(10):4496-4499.IJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Structured NOM involving ICU surveillance, temporary urinary diversion, selective minimally invasive procedures, and coordinated multidisciplinary care successfully preserved both renal and splenic function in this combined high-grade trauma case. The outcome supports stability-based decision-making over routine operative intervention and reinforces the safety and effectiveness of individualized conservative pathways in complex blunt abdominal trauma.

- Neonatal extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in congenital urinary tract obstruction with pulmonary hypoplasia: a case complicated by alveolar capillary dysplasia emphasizing importance of early rapid genetic testing. [Journal Article]
- A late preterm male infant born at 36 weeks and 2 days of gestation with birth weight of 2.5 kg and prenatally diagnosed bilateral hydronephrosis, megaureter, urinomas, and failed fetal shunt placement in the setting of anhydramnios developed severe hypoxemic respiratory failure shortly after birth. Despite surfactant, inhaled nitric oxide, and vasoactive support, refractory hypoxemia with severe…

- The role of hematological parameters and systemic immune-inflammation index in the management of symptomatic gestational hydronephrosis. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: While clinical presentation and the severity of hydronephrosis primarily indicate the need for surgical intervention, the systemic immune-inflammation index serves as a valuable, cost-effective auxiliary predictor among the hematological parameters.

- A pilot mixed-methods analysis of maternal anxiety and experience following a diagnosis of antenatal hydronephrosis. [Journal Article]J Health Psychol. 2026 Oct 07; :13591053261488292. [Online ahead of print]JH
- Antenatal hydronephrosis (ANH), fetal kidney dilation, is a common prenatal diagnosis with variable prognosis that complicates counseling; however, its impact on maternal anxiety remains unknown. This study aimed to assess maternal anxiety and experience following a diagnosis of ANH and examine its relationship to severity. Data were collected from 30 mothers of infants diagnosed prenatally with …

- The Clinical Significance of Stone Culture in Endoscopic Upper Urinary Tract Stone Surgery: Its Association with Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS) and Surgical Success. [Journal Article]Urol Int. 2026 Oct 07; :1. [Online ahead of print]UI
- CONCLUSIONS: Stone culture positivity is associated with postoperative SIRS development and reduced surgical success. The study findings suggest that urinary stones may serve as a potential microbial reservoir, particularly in the presence of urinary obstruction, and that relying solely on urine culture at initial presentation may be insufficient for assessing postoperative infectious risk. Stone culture may be clinically valuable in terms of predicting postoperative risk and surgical success and of planning targeted antibiotic therapy particularly in patients with hydronephrosis.

- Risk factors and machine learning-based prediction of difficult ureter during retrograde ureteroscopic lithotripsy. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Elevated CRP levels, gout, absence of hydronephrosis, and lack of medical expulsive therapy are important risk factors for difficult ureter during ureteroscopic lithotripsy. Machine learning-based models, particularly artificial neural networks, may provide additional predictive value and serve as decision-support tools for preoperative risk stratification in clinical practice.

- Evaluation of renal functional reserve in primary vesicoureteric reflux: A cross-sectional study. [Journal Article]J Pediatr Urol. 2026 Sep 21; :106293. [Online ahead of print]JP
- CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, preserved RFR was noted in nearly two-thirds of children with VUR, with no significant difference with disease severity. The study demonstrates that RFR can be measured using different methodologies in children with VUR and provides valuable feasibility data.

- Preoperative CT-based markers and inflammatory parameters as predictors of failed ureteroscopic access in unstented patients with ureteral stones: a prospective single-center cohort study. [Journal Article]
- Failed ureteroscopic access (FA) in unstented patients remains a significant clinical challenge. We aimed to identify preoperative clinical, laboratory, and CT-based predictors of FA, determine optimal cutoff values, and develop a clinically applicable risk-stratification model. This prospective cohort study enrolled 141 consecutive patients with ureteral stones undergoing unstented ureteroscopy …

- Hydronephrosis and its causes identified on correlative fluoroscopy in a paediatric population at a resource-constrained tertiary hospital in Southern Africa. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Bilateral hydronephrosis correlated with higher severity grades, mostly due to posterior urethral valves. Severity grading highlights the importance of early detection and intervention to prevent renal failure. Resource constraints challenge SASPI treatment algorithm implementation, necessitating institution-specific imaging pathways.

- Peritoneal loose body: an incidental finding, a challenging diagnosis and multimodal assessment to avoid resections. [Case Reports]BMJ Case Rep. 2026 Oct 05; 19(10).BC
- A man in his early 40s presented with urinary symptoms and was diagnosed with a right ureteric calculus, hydronephrosis and urinary tract infection. A non-contrast CT scan of the kidneys, ureters and bladder revealed an incidental pelvic mass in the rectovesical pouch, initially suspected as a gastrointestinal stromal tumour/fibroma. Multidisciplinary management prioritised cystoscopy-guided doub…

- The effect of ureteral stenting on the risk of metachronous upper tract urothelial carcinoma in patients with bladder tumors involving the ureteral orifice. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The present study did not demonstrate an increased risk of metachronous UTUC after stenting during TURBT with urothelial cancer involving the ureteral orifice. Moreover, stenting was not statistically significantly associated with increased recurrences in the urinary bladder, higher cystectomy rates, or worse mortality.
