  • Determining when patients with thyroid illnesses should be cleared for surgery. [Journal Article]
Curr Opin Endocrinol Diabetes Obes. 2026 Aug 13. [Online ahead of print]Paul A, Abraham AA, George TCO
  • CONCLUSIONS: Current management of thyroid dysfunction is largely consensus-driven and based on limited evidence. Routine elective surgery optimization is advised for overt thyroid disease; however, in urgent cases, surgery after starting appropriate therapy and multidisciplinary planning is often reasonable. Future research should focus on prospective outcome data, rapid correction strategies, and the role of modern care pathways in reducing endocrine-related surgical risks.
  • Maternal Thyroid Dysfunction During Pregnancy and Childhood Autism or Other Developmental Outcomes. [Journal Article]
Autism Res. 2026 Aug 12; :e70346. [Online ahead of print]Kaplan ZB, Pearce EN, … Schmidt RJAR
  • Overt maternal hypothyroidism during pregnancy has been associated with cognitive impairment in offspring, but less is known about effects of subclinical hypothyroidism and other maternal thyroid conditions on autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This study examined the relationships between maternal thyroid dysfunction during pregnancy and child neurodevelopmental outcomes. Participants were from a h…
  • Right Ventricular-Specific Fetal Cardiac Remodeling Associated with Maternal Thyroid Pathology. [Journal Article]
J Ultrasound Med. 2026 Aug 11. [Online ahead of print]Oluklu D, Oluklu FJU
  • CONCLUSIONS: Maternal thyroid pathology was associated with subtle RV-specific fetal cardiac remodeling characterized by reduced RV sphericity and increased interventricular septal thickness, without significant LV involvement. Similar findings across all thyroid subgroups suggest that fetal cardiac remodeling may accompany a broad spectrum of maternal thyroid disorders. RV sphericity index may represent a promising imaging marker, although prospective external validation is required before clinical application.
  • A Pruritic Predicament: An Unusual Presentation of Graves' Disease Complicated by Pregnancy. [Journal Article]
    Case Rep Med. 2026; 2026:5816822.Lawless R, Smith E, … Salmon TCR
  • Pruritus is a known but uncommon symptom of hyperthyroidism that can be misinterpreted or overlooked in a patient presentation. This is a case report of a 40-year-old female who presents with a 3-month history of severe, worsening pruritus. Further history demonstrated potential signs of hyperthyroidism, and laboratory values demonstrated low TSH levels, high T4 levels, and positive TSH receptor …
  • Hearing loss in hyperthyroid patients treated with teprotumumab (Tepezza[R]). [Journal Article]
Eur Arch Otorhinolaryngol. 2026 Aug 10. [Online ahead of print]de Santana Hager M, Cottone C, … Carr MMEA
  • CONCLUSIONS: Teprotumumab use is associated with a significantly increased risk of sensorineural and unspecified hearing loss in patients with hyperthyroidism. These findings support routine audiologic monitoring during treatment and highlight the need for prospective studies to investigate underlying mechanisms and preventative strategies.
