- Cognitive Impairment and Cerebral Haemodynamics in Individuals with Symptomatic Peripheral Artery Disease. [Journal Article]Am J Physiol Heart Circ Physiol. 2026 Sep 29. [Online ahead of print]AJ
- Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is highly prevalent in older adults. PAD is associated with cognitive impairment; however the underlying mechanisms are unclear. The brain's metabolic needs rapidly change in response to neuronal activity requiring adjustment of regional cerebral blood flow, termed neurovascular coupling (NVC). The microvascular endothelium contributes to NVC responses. Patients wi…

- Efficacy and Safety of GNX80 in Patients with Peripheral Arterial Disease and Intermittent Claudication. [Journal Article]Korean Circ J. 2026 Aug 24. [Online ahead of print]KC
- CONCLUSIONS: For patients with stable PAD and IC, GNX80 was associated with a numerically greater improvement in MWD compared with placebo, although statistical significance was not achieved in the primary FAS analysis. Further randomized trials are warranted to determine whether GNX80 improves functional capacity in this patient population.

- Current advancements in the care of peripheral arterial disease: modern approaches to medical, endovascular, and surgical treatment. [Review]Lancet. 2026 Oct 03; 408(10562):1371-1382.Lct
- People with peripheral arterial disease (PAD) of the lower limbs are at very high risk of cardiovascular events and therefore the cornerstone of their management is medical therapy and behaviour modification to reduce that risk. The risk of limb loss (through major amputation) is low in people with asymptomatic PAD or intermittent claudication with only a few patients progressing to the most seve…

- Full Endovascular vs Hybrid Repair of Common Femoral Artery Associated with Ipsilateral Concomitant Arterial Lesions in Septuagenarians Patients. [Journal Article]Ann Vasc Surg. 2026 Sep 17. [Online ahead of print]AV
- CONCLUSIONS: In septuagenarian patients, full endovascular repair of the CFA and ipsilateral concomitant lesions was associated with mid-term outcomes similar to those of hybrid surgery, while reducing hospital length of stay and perioperative complications. Full endovascular treatment could nonetheless be considered a valid alternative to hybrid procedures in septuagenarian patients, especially those at high surgical risk, pending confirmation in more homogeneous, prospective cohorts.

- Cost Effectiveness of Supervised Exercise Programmes for Intermittent Claudication: An Economic Evaluation Based on the MAXIMISE Study. [Journal Article]Eur J Vasc Endovasc Surg. 2026 Sep 17. [Online ahead of print]EJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Most SEPs emerged as cost effective compared with unsupervised exercise. Cost effectiveness differences between the clinically identified optimal exercise prescription and the prescription offering the most value for money in the National Health Service seemed to be driven by costs of delivering a prescription that is less resource intensive.

- [Popliteal artery entrapment syndrome]. [Journal Article]
- Popliteal artery entrapment syndrome (PAES) is a cause of exertional calf pain, predominantly affecting young athletic patients without pre-existing vascular disease. Although the condition is generally rare, the number of undetected asymptomatic cases is thought to be substantial. In up to two thirds of cases the PAES is bilateral. Pathophysiologically, it results from external compression of th…

- CHA2DS2-VASc Score for Risk Stratification After Endovascular Therapy in Patients With Symptomatic Peripheral Artery Disease. [Journal Article]J Endovasc Ther. 2026 Sep 15; :15266028261484801. [Online ahead of print]JE
- CONCLUSIONS: In patients undergoing EVT for symptomatic PAD, a higher CHA2DS2-VASc score was independently associated with increased 3-year mortality. This widely available score may serve as a simple adjunctive tool for initial risk stratification after EVT and may complement established PAD-specific prognostic assessments.Clinical ImpactPatients undergoing endovascular therapy (EVT) for symptomatic peripheral artery disease remain at substantial risk of long-term mortality. In this multicenter study, the CHA2DS2-VASc score was independently associated with 3-year mortality across a broad spectrum of symptomatic PAD, including intermittent claudication and chronic limb-threatening ischemia. Although PAD- and CLTI-specific prognostic models provide superior discrimination, the CHA2DS2-VASc score is simple, universally recognized, and immediately available without disease-specific assessments. It may serve as an adjunctive tool for initial risk stratification and complement established prognostic models in routine clinical practice.

- Cholesterol embolization syndrome: A case report and literature review. [Case Reports]
- Cholesterol embolization syndrome is a clinical condition caused by cholesterol crystals dislodged from atherosclerotic plaques, leading to distal arterial occlusion and subsequent organ ischemia. We present a case of a 61-year-old male who developed blue toe syndrome, reticular livedo, and gastrointestinal bleeding 1 week after aortic interventional therapy for intermittent claudication. The pat…

- [The role of lumbar sympathectomy in the treatment of lower limb ischemia. 100 years of practice and research (review)]. [Historical Article]Angiol Sosud Khir. 2026 Jun 01; 32(2):20-26.AS
- This article presents literature data on the history, mechanism of action, clinical application, and effectiveness of lumbar sympathectomy in the treatment of lower extremity ischemia. The results of numerous studies are compared and the seminal works on this topic are examined in more detail, with a particular focus on systematic reviews. It concludes that lumbar sympathectomy remains a recommen…

- BackgroundPeripheral artery disease (PAD) is common in maintenance hemodialysis patients, and ankle-brachial index (ABI) may underestimate disease because arterial calcification can yield falsely normal or elevated values. Toe-brachial index (TBI) may better detect distal ischemia. This study compared PAD detection by ABI and TBI and identified factors associated with TBI-defined PAD.MethodsIn th…

- Anaemia prevalence, characterisation, and clinical impact in intermittent claudication. [Journal Article]Ann Vasc Surg. 2026 Sep 04. [Online ahead of print]AV
- CONCLUSIONS: Anaemia affects approximately one in five patients with intermittent claudication and represents a significant treatment gap, with 77.8% receiving no therapy, despite anaemia was associated with higher MACE and mortality risk. A prospective randomised controlled trial evaluating the efficacy of anaemia treatment strategies in this cohort may help to improve understanding and guide clinical management.
