- Outcomes of Complex Retinal Detachment Repair with Proliferative Vitreoretinopathy Grade C using the Cincinnati Methotrexate Protocol. [Journal Article]Ophthalmol Retina. 2026 Oct 14. [Online ahead of print]OR
- CONCLUSIONS: A Cincinnati MTX regimen comprised of an intraoperative intraocular infusion and four intravitreal injections at postoperative weeks 1, 3, 6 and 10 was associated with higher single surgery success, lower postoperative PVR, and superior VA in complex RD repair with PVR grade C compared to a contemporaneous consecutive comparator cohort.

- Earlier onset of type 2 diabetes mellitus as a risk factor for Irvine-Gass syndrome. [Journal Article]Clinics (Sao Paulo). 2026 Oct 14; 81:101204. [Online ahead of print]C
- CONCLUSIONS: Earlier T2DM onset (≤ 55.5-years) is a strong independent risk factor for IGS following uneventful PEI. This threshold provides a clinically useful tool for preoperative risk stratification, particularly valuable for identifying high-risk diabetic patients who may benefit from enhanced perioperative monitoring and management.

- Leucine-rich repeat kinase 2 is involved in the microtubule-mediated regulation of intraocular pressure. [Journal Article]J Pharmacol Exp Ther. 2026 Sep 23; 393(11):105035. [Online ahead of print]JP
- Leucine-rich repeat kinase 2 (LRRK2) is known as the most common gene responsible for familial Parkinson disease (PD). This protein plays a key role in the neurodegenerative pathways associated with PD. LRRK2 also plays critical roles in actin dynamics and microtubule cytoskeletal assembly in the cells. In addition to PD, actin and microtubule cytoskeletons are associated with the onset and devel…

- Multi-institutional study evaluating the role of liquid biopsy to determine risk of extraocular disease, therapy response and recurrence in retinoblastoma. [Journal Article]Clin Cancer Res. 2026 Oct 14. [Online ahead of print]CC
- CONCLUSIONS: Longitudinal ctDNA may predict risk of developing extraocular RB. Its use for monitoring and risk stratification deserves further study.

- Supernormal flicker ERG with postoperative CME after nDSAEK in bullous keratopathy. [Journal Article]Doc Ophthalmol. 2026 Oct 14. [Online ahead of print]DO
- CONCLUSIONS: This case illustrates that transiently increased ERG amplitude accompanied by subtle prolongation of implicit time may occur following nDSAEK and could be associated with postoperative intraocular inflammation and CME. Serial RETeval-based flicker ERG may be useful for monitoring perioperative inflammatory responses after endothelial keratoplasty.

- Cross-Sectional Profiling of Aqueous Humor VEGF-A Reflects the Tumor and Ocular Microenvironment in Retinoblastoma. [Journal Article]Invest Ophthalmol Vis Sci. 2026 Oct 01; 67(12):23.IO
- CONCLUSIONS: AH liquid biopsy was a high-yield source of VEGF-A in RB. VEGF-A concentrations were highest during primary enucleation and normalized after treatment completion. These findings support that aqueous VEGF-A reflects the intraocular microenvironment, warranting further validation to improve our understanding of its role in disease progression in RB.

- Layer-Specific Associations of Axial Length With Retinal and Choroidal Thickness: A Nationally Representative Population-Based Study. [Journal Article]Invest Ophthalmol Vis Sci. 2026 Oct 01; 67(12):26.IO
- CONCLUSIONS: The apparent RNFL thinning with longer AL was largely attributable to scan-circle magnification rather than tissue thinning. The other layers differed in form: a non-linear GCIPL association and a large, approximately linear choroidal reduction, with outer-retinal preservation. Interpretation should account for AL, magnification, and functional form across layers.

- Therapeutic Window of AAV-SIRT1 Gene Therapy in Mouse Models of Optic Nerve Degeneration. [Journal Article]Transl Vis Sci Technol. 2026 Oct 05; 15(10):17.TV
- CONCLUSIONS: SIRT1 gene therapy confers robust RGC neuroprotection and potentially preserves visual function when delivered before or after disease onset in the models of ocular hypertension and optic neuritis.

- PRAME predicting outcome in uveal melanoma. [Journal Article]J Pathol Clin Res. 2026 Nov; 12(6):e70116.JP
- Uveal melanoma (UM) is the most common primary intra-ocular malignancy in adults and carries a high risk of metastatic disease, affecting approximately 50% of patients despite advances in local tumour control. PRAME (PReferentially expressed Antigen in MElanoma) has emerged as a marker for metastatic risk; however, evidence is largely derived from mRNA expression studies rather than routine immun…

- CONCLUSIONS: These cases demonstrate a potential association between GLP-1/GIP receptor agonist use and IOP lowering in patients with glaucoma and help substantiate existing literature with real world cases, thereby highlighting the need for further prospective research on this emerging topic.

- CONCLUSIONS: In advanced PACG eyes with 360° angle closure, the differences between the 12-month IOP control, surgical success, and medication reduction of the two groups showed no statistically significance. Routine addition of goniotomy may not provide additional benefit.

- A case report of ocular nocardiosis secondary to Nocardia asiatica in a patient with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. [Case Reports]Am J Ophthalmol Case Rep. 2026 Dec; 44:102674.AJ
- CONCLUSIONS: This case represents a detailed report of endogenous ocular nocardiosis attributable to Nocardia asiatica presenting as bilateral subretinal abscesses with multifocal brain involvement. Subretinal abscess-like lesions with minimal intraocular inflammation in the setting of disseminated infection, particularly when accompanied by multifocal brain abscesses, should prompt early consideration of nocardiosis. Early recognition and empiric trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole therapy may facilitate systemic recovery and preserve vision in less affected eyes.

- Effect of implantable collamer lens on biometric measurements and intraocular lens power calculation formulas. [Journal Article]Acta Ophthalmol. 2026 Oct 14. [Online ahead of print]AO
- CONCLUSIONS: ICL implantation alters biometric measurements and theoretically predicted Δ-pSEQ; although these changes are statistically significant, their clinical significance is negligible. While incorrect ACD segmentation is common, it is unlikely to substantially affect the theoretical calculation results.

- CONCLUSIONS: Topical tacrolimus is an effective steroid-sparing immunomodulator for a broad spectrum of T-cell-mediated ocular disease, with a favorable safety profile notable for the absence of steroid-related rises in intraocular pressure or cataractogenesis. Standardized formulations and prospective comparative trials remain priorities.
