- Brain functional mechanisms of acupuncture treatment for early-stage non-tremor Parkinson's disease: a resting-state fMRI study. [Journal Article]Front Neurol. 2026; 17:1924955.FN
- CONCLUSIONS: Acupuncture treatment was associated with improvements in motor function, walking speed, and cognition in early-stage non-tremor PD, with potential mechanisms involving downregulated precuneus DC/FC and enhanced local activity. Furthermore, the change in right precuneus DC, which correlated significantly with both motor and cognitive improvements, may serve as a potential neuroimaging biomarker for treatment-induced clinical recovery.

- A dual-mode surface-enhanced Raman scattering and piezoresistive sensing platform for biomolecular and biomechanical analysis in Parkinson's disease. [Journal Article]Biosens Bioelectron. 2026 Oct 10; 316:119328. [Online ahead of print]BB
- Current non-invasive assessments for Parkinson's disease (PD) are predominantly single-modality, leaving an unmet need for an integrated platform combining biomolecular and biomechanical detection. Here, an integrated dual-mode sensing platform based on a flexible non-woven fabric (NWFs) device for PD is provided. Silver nano-contacts are electrolessly deposited onto cotton fibers to form a biomi…

- Bioinspired chondroitin sulfate/poly(levodopa) hydrogels as photothermal platforms for NIR controlled drug release and cartilage tissue engineering. [Journal Article]J Biomater Sci Polym Ed. 2026 Oct 13; :1-20. [Online ahead of print]JB
- Stimuli-responsive hydrogels capable of combining tissue regeneration with on-demand drug delivery represent an attractive strategy for cartilage repair. In this work, bioinspired chondroitin sulfate/poly(levodopa) (CS/P(L-DOPA)) hydrogels were prepared through EDC/NHS-mediated self-crosslinking of CS followed by the in situ polymerization of L-DOPA to generate a secondary eumelanin photothermal …

- Effects of globus pallidus internus deep brain stimulation on freezing of gait in Parkinson's disease: a prospective short-term single-arm study. [Journal Article]Front Aging Neurosci. 2026; 18:1848040.FA
- CONCLUSIONS: Within this single-arm cohort, FoG measures improved over short-term follow-up after GPi-DBS, and greater pre-operative axial levodopa-responsiveness was associated with greater TUG improvement.

- Freezing of Gait: A Therapeutic Perspective. [Review]Eur J Neurosci. 2026 Oct; 64(7):e70711.EJ
- Despite improved definition of the problem and better understanding of its phenomenology, freezing of gait (FoG) remains a therapeutic enigma for clinicians and neuroscientists alike. Patients with Parkinson disease (PD) or other neurological disorders experiencing FoG are similarly frustrated, despite the benefits that levodopa and other medications provide for control of PD's primary motor feat…

- Incidental Finding of an Asymptomatic Perielectrode Cyst After Deep Brain Stimulation for Parkinson's Disease. [Case Reports]
- Implanted intracerebral devices can lead to infection, hemorrhage, or the formation of fluid-filled cysts. Formation of a perielectrode cyst after deep brain stimulation (DBS) has been reported in a limited number of patients. Additionally, diverse causes and clinical presentations have been associated with these cysts. We present a case of perielectrode cyst formation three months after implanta…

- Consensus-based perspectives on integrating IPX203 into Parkinson's disease management. [Review]
- Motor fluctuations are a common and burdensome complication of Parkinson's disease (PD) when the disease progresses, largely driven by the short half-life and variable absorption of immediate-release (IR) levodopa. IPX203 is a next-generation modified-release levodopa/carbidopa formulation that delivers rapid onset and sustained plasma levodopa concentrations through IR granules and extended-rele…

- Microbiome-aware oral drug delivery: excipient-microbiome interactions and nanocarrier design rules for predictable formulation performance. [Review]
- Oral drug delivery remains the predominant administration route, but formulation strategies rarely account systematically for the gut microbiome. The microbiome can alter drug metabolism, excipient behavior, nanocarrier interactions, and interpatient variability. This review integrates evidence on microbial drug metabolism, excipient-microbiome interactions, nanocarrier engineering, microbiota-re…

- In-hospital sting challenge during venom immunotherapy has a high negative predictive value for subsequent sting reactions. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: In patients on ongoing VIT a tolerated in-hospital sting provocation has a high negative predictive value (98.2%) in relation to the outcome of later field stings. The majority of these patients will subsequently not develop systemic reactions.

- Efficacy and Safety of Safinamide as an Adjunct to Levodopa for Motor Fluctuations in Parkinson's Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials. [Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Safinamide 100 mg per day appears to be a helpful addition to levodopa for reducing OFF-time and improving motor function in PD patients with motor fluctuations. However, this benefit comes with a higher risk of dyskinesia, so careful patient selection and monitoring are important. The 50-mg dose shows similar but less pronounced effects, supporting 100 mg as the preferred dose. Further research is needed to confirm these findings.

- The Gut-Brain Axis in Parkinson's Disease: From Clinical Observation toward Mechanism-Based Precision Medicine. [Journal Article]Mov Disord. 2026 Oct 08. [Online ahead of print]MD
- Gastrointestinal dysfunction is increasingly recognized as a core feature of Parkinson's disease (PD), affecting quality of life, nutrition, medication response, and potentially the earliest stages of pathogenesis. This perspective traces the evolution of the gut from a neglected source of non-motor symptoms to a central component of biological models of PD. Gastrointestinal manifestations are ph…

- Does genetic testing remain relevant in advanced Parkinson's disease? [Review]
- Genetic testing is traditionally emphasized in early-onset or familial Parkinson's disease (PD), leaving its role in advanced disease uncertain. This mini-review explores, from the perspectives of patients, their family members, and clinical researchers, whether genetic investigation remains meaningful once patients reach advanced PD. In large prospective clinical-genetic screening cohorts, rough…

- Distinct brain activation patterns linked to clinical symptoms during hand grasping in Parkinson's disease. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: In PD patients, constipation is associated with cortical hyperactivation in the prefrontal-premotor areas during the non-dominant hand task. Conversely, FOG correlates with reduced hemodynamic persistence and shortened activation duration in the right primary motor cortex (M1) during the dominant hand task. fNIRS can act as an objective tool to explore the cortical mechanisms of motor and non-motor symptoms in PD, providing hypothesis-generating evidence for potential targets that warrant further investigation in future repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) intervention trials.

- A Novel Label-Free Fluorescent Turn-on Method for the Determination of Guanine Using Levodopa. [Journal Article]
- A novel simple, direct, selective and rapid fluorometric method is described for the determination of guanine. The method is based on a "turn-on" response by the enhancement of the fluorescence of levodopa (L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-DOPA), under optimized conditions. The reaction is subjected to detailed spectroscopic and thermodynamic investigation. Upon addition of guanine, to levodopa, a…
