  • Syndecan-2 enhances invasive motility in colon cancer cells via a laminin-332-integrin α6β1 axis. [Journal Article]
    J Biol Chem. 2026 Aug 17; 302(10):113455. [Online ahead of print]Cho S, Hwang J, … Oh ESJB
  • Syndecan-2 (SDC-2) is a key regulator of colon cancer progression, but its cooperation with integrins in cell motility is not fully understood. Here, we show that SDC-2 overexpression in HT29 colon cancer cells (HT29-S2W) enhances adhesion, spreading, and migration on laminin-332, an extracellular matrix component linked to poor prognosis. These effects correlate with increased basal membrane loc…
  • How I Do It: OpenTrainer, An Open-Source Laparoscopic Surgery Simulator With a Smartphone Endoscope. [Journal Article]
    J Surg Educ. 2026 Sep; 83(9):104090.Nandakumar A, Hudock MR, … Vunjak-Novakovic GJS
  • CONCLUSIONS: By utilizing fabrication methodologies available at most university and community makerspaces, the OpenTrainer surgical simulator is readily made at low cost, enabling more trainees to access laparoscopic training, and potentially earlier in training. Within the OpenTrainer footprint, new training modules can be designed for students to practice techniques beyond the traditional FLS exam.
  • GPR35 modulates NaV1.9 gating and sensory neuron excitability. [Journal Article]
    Br J Pharmacol. 2026 Sep; 183(17):5336-5354.Theys M, Cruyssen JV, … Bosmans FBJ
  • CONCLUSIONS: These findings identify GPR35 as a regulator of NaV1.9 and define a receptor-channel signalling module linking GPCR activation to ion channel-dependent modulation of sensory neuron excitability. This work provides a mechanistic framework for understanding GPCR-NaV1.9 coupling.
  • A dual expression plasmid with protegrin-1 compatible with both prokaryotic and mammalian systems. [Journal Article]
    MethodsX. 2026 Jun; 16:103952.Murakami M, Koda H, … Niwa YM
  • Antimicrobial peptide (AMP)-based positive selection is a powerful strategy for rapid gene cloning. A notable example is the use of the Escherichia coli (E. coli) CcdB toxin to eliminate non-recombinant plasmids. Building on this, dual prokaryotic/mammalian expression vectors like pgMAX and pgMAX-II minimize subcloning by allowing direct expression after a single ligation. However, combining sele…
  • PrfH accelerates repair of colicin E3 - damaged translating ribosomes by RtcB2. [Journal Article]
RNA Biol. 2026 Dec; 23(1):1-10.Maviza TP, Burmistrova NR, … Sergiev PVRB
  • Colicin E3 (E3-rRNAse) abolishes protein biosynthesis in bacteria by cleaving 16S rRNA in the decoding centre. The RtcB2-PrfH 16S rRNA repair module prevents cellular death upon exposure to E3-rRNAse in E. coli. Upon overexpression, RtcB2 RNA ligase alone was capable of relieving E. coli growth, which was inhibited by E3-rRNAse. Using in vitro ribosome repair system based on recombinant component…
  • Ribosome dynamics during skeletal muscle repair and regeneration in mice and humans. [Journal Article]
    Am J Physiol Cell Physiol. 2026 Jul 01; 331(1):C30-C40.Cui M, Edman S, … von Walden FAJ
  • Skeletal muscle repair requires coordinated regulation of inflammation and protein synthesis, but the roles of ribosome biogenesis and protein composition remain poorly defined. To address this, mice underwent femoral artery ligation (FAL) to induce muscle regeneration over 28 days. In humans, tibialis anterior biopsies from patients with traumatic tibial fracture were subjected to RNA sequencing…
