  • The role of renin-angiotensin system modulation in the pathophysiology of neuropsychiatric disorders. [Review]
    Horm Behav. 2026 Oct 02; 186:106003. [Online ahead of print]Sharma A, Goel T, … Singh TGHB
  • The renin-angiotensin system (RAS), traditionally recognized for cardiovascular and renal regulation, has emerged as a critical mechanistic player in neuropsychiatric pathophysiology. The brain possesses its own independent RAS with components located throughout limbic regions, cortical areas, and monoaminergic circuits that are essential for mood, cognition, and behavior. Within this framework, …
  • AMPK Activator MK-8722 Improves Spatial Memory Deficit and Alters Metabolome in APP/PS1 AD Mouse Model. [Journal Article]
    J Neurochem. 2026 Oct; 170(10):e70563.Nicol NI, Li T, … Ma TJN
  • Alzheimer's disease (AD) involves early synaptic vulnerability and systemic metabolic dysfunction, yet the impact of peripheral metabolic state on brain function remains unclear. Previous studies indicate a link between AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) signaling dysregulation and AD pathophysiology. Here we tested whether systemic treatment of a potent pan-AMPK activator MK-8722 influences cog…
  • Electroencephalography research in neuropathic pain (Review). [Review]
    Mol Med Rep. 2026 Nov; 34(5).Zhou L, Liao N, … Chen XMM
  • Neuropathic pain (NP), arising from lesions or dysfunction of the somatosensory system, remains a major clinical challenge due to its subjective and multidimensional nature. Traditional pain assessments rely on self‑report scales, which lack objectivity and reproducibility. Electroencephalography (EEG), with its high temporal resolution and accessibility, provides a promising avenue for identifyi…
  • Functional analysis of adrenocorticotropic-hormone-producing pituitary cells derived from human pluripotent stem cells in murine and primate models of hypopituitarism. [Journal Article]
    Stem Cell Res Ther. 2026 Oct 02; 17(1).Kondo T, Suga H, … Saito RSC
  • CONCLUSIONS: To our knowledge, no previous study in primates has demonstrated efficacious pituitary cell transplantation, whether derived from fetal pituitary, xenogeneic pituitary, or PSCs. Future priorities include the acquisition of comprehensive non-clinical data to inform design of first-in-human clinical trials; optimisation of transplantation techniques; evaluation of immunosuppressive and adjunctive therapies; and assessment of safety and efficacy parameters. In parallel, the development of scalable manufacturing platforms utilising clinical-grade induced PSCs will be essential to establish the foundation for the eventual clinical application of pituitary cell transplantation therapy.
  • Relationship between asthma, obesity and other comorbidities: the Australasian Severe Asthma Registry. [Journal Article]
    Respir Res. 2026 Aug 21; 27(1).Scott HA, Lee J, … Hansbro PMRR
  • CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates that obesity is associated with a significantly worse clinical asthma presentation in the real-world setting and increases the risk of asthma-related hospitalisation. Critically, our findings suggest that obesity is associated with increased neutrophilic airway inflammation in females, but not males, providing some insight into possible sex-related differences in severe asthma.
  • Fronto-cingulate gamma synchrony predicts deep brain stimulation response in treatment-resistant depression: preliminary evidence. [Journal Article]
    J Psychiatry Neurosci. 2026 Jan 01; 51:1-12.Gholamali Nezhad F, Tailor I, … Bhat VJP
  • CONCLUSIONS: These preliminary findings suggest that VCVS-DBS may engage a fronto-cingulate gamma network involved in cognitive-affective control in TRD. They further suggest that clinical response may depend on both baseline dACC-VLPFC network organization and DBS-related modulation of gamma synchrony, highlighting potential relevance to cognitive-affective regulation across psychiatric disorders. Given the small sample size, these findings should be considered hypothesis-generating and require confirmation in larger cohorts.
  • Adolescent Ethanol Exposure Disrupts the Mature Phenotype of Surviving Neuroprogenitors in Female Mice. [Journal Article]
    Hippocampus. 2026 Nov; 36(6):e70134.Campbell K, McDowell M, … Macht VH
  • Rodent models of human adolescent binge drinking persistently reduce adult neurogenesis and induce innate immune signaling cascades, suggesting long-lasting dysfunction in the hippocampal neurogenic niche. Nevertheless, many neuroprogenitors survive, and the impact of adolescent ethanol on the mature phenotype of these surviving neurons is unknown, resulting in an unstudied cellular population th…
  • Hypothalamic-amygdala gating of caregiving-like prosocial behavior in mice. [Journal Article]
J Clin Invest. 2026 Oct 01; 136(19).Geng KW, Wang RR, … Chen JJCI
  • Distress sharing within an ingroup instinctively motivates caregiving-like prosocial behavior in social animals and humans, yet how aversive social stimuli paradoxically trigger such behavior remains unclear. Here, we show that stress-state matching in observer mice elicits caregiving-like behaviors (allogrooming and injury-targeted allolicking) toward cagemates in pain, resulting in synchronized…
  • A cortical-hippocampal communication undergoes rebalancing after new learning. [Journal Article]
Elife. 2026 Oct 01; 14.Hall AF, Wang DVE
  • The brain's ability to consolidate a wide range of memories while maintaining their distinctiveness across experiences remains poorly understood. Sharp-wave ripples, neural oscillations that occur predominantly within CA1 of the hippocampus during immobility and sleep, have been shown to play a critical role in the consolidation process. More recently, evidence has uncovered functional heterogene…
