- Comparative analysis of posterior column screw trajectories: pararectus vs. lateral window of the pelvis. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Although the PRA allows good visualization of the posterior column screw entry point, it presents limitations in achieving optimal sagittal and coronal insertion angles due to the anatomical constraints of the abdomen and surrounding structures. In contrast, the LW approach demonstrated a screw trajectory that more closely aligns with the ideal anatomical corridor.

- The role of the sacroiliac joint in sex estimation: Analysis of morphometry and variation types using machine learning techniques. [Journal Article]
- This study aimed to evaluate the potential of machine learning algorithms in sex estimation by going beyond the traditional two-dimensional (2D) measurements of the pelvic bone, predominantly preferred in sex prediction, by including measurement data in three-dimensional (3D) images. Measurements were performed on abdominal multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) images of 152 individuals (77 fe…

- Anterior extrapelvic approaches to the acetabulum. [Journal Article]
- Anterior approaches to the acetabulum can be distinguished into extrapelvic, intrapelvic and combined extrapelvic and intrapelvic approaches. Historically, the extrapelvic ilioinguinal approach was introduced in the French, English and German literature during the late 60s and became gradually the Gold-standard in treating anterior acetabular fractures. In the meantime, the intrapelvic approach, …

- Acetabular Revision with McMinn Cup: Development and Application of a Patient-Specific Targeting Device. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Our results show that CT-based virtual surgical planning and, based on it, the use of a patient-specific 3D printed aiming device is a reliable method for major hip surgeries with significant bone loss. This technique has also made it possible to perform these operations with minimal X-ray exposure.

- Pelvis shape analysis with geometric morphometry in crossbreed cats. [Journal Article]
- In this study, the geometric morphometry of the pelvis of 32 (16 male, 16 female) crossbreed cats was investigated. Pelvis images of cats were obtained by computerized tomography method. Then, these images were modelled and geometric morphometry was applied. Shape variations of the pelvis of all individuals were obtained by principal component analysis. The first principal component (PC1) value e…

- The morphological consequences of segmentation anomalies in the human sacrum. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Our approach allowed the consistent identification of segmentation anomalies even in isolated sacra. Additionally, our outcomes either suggest that homeotic border shifts often affect multiple spinal regions in a unidirectional way, or that sacrum length is highly conserved perhaps due to functional constraints. Our results elucidate the potential clinical, biomechanical, and evolutionary significance of lumbosacral transitional vertebrae.

- Combined anterior and posterior ring fixation versus posterior ring fixation alone in the management of unstable Tile B and C pelvic ring injuries: A randomized controlled trial. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: The authors concluded that isolated PR fixation could favorably manage Tile B2 and C1 pelvic ring injuries with Nakatani zone II pubic rami fractures and intact inguinal ligament. Its final radiological and clinical outcomes and postoperative complications were comparable to combined APR fixation, but with less morbidity (shorter operation time, lower amount of blood, and no records of postoperative wound infection).

- A new modified pararectus approach and visualization: an anatomical study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This anatomical study includes highly instructive visual shapes and cadaver images for the acetabulum and pelvis, whose anatomical structures are quite complex. We have found that this modified pararectus approach provides excellent access to the internal pelvic rim.

- Grooves in the preauricular area of the human ilium as indicator of sex or traces of parturition: historical background with a test of Novotný's method. [Journal Article]Anthropol Anz. 2022 Feb 14; 79(2):1156-167.AA
- This paper summarizes the history of the study of bone surface depressions near the contact surfaces of the sacroiliac joint, or grooves located below the linea terminalis, known in the literature as "scars of parturition" or "pelvic scars". Since the beginning of the 20th century, the "sulcus praeauricularis" has been confused with the "sulcus paraglenoidalis" without a satisfactory explanation …

- Relation of the lumbosacral trunk to the sacro-iliac joint. [Journal Article]
- This study aims to evaluate the relation between the lumbosacral trunk (LT) and the sacro-iliac joint (SIJ). In forty anatomic specimens (hemipelves) a classical antero-lateral approach to the SIJ was performed. The SIJ was marked at the linea terminalis (reference point A). Reference point B was situated at the upper edge of the interosseous sacro-iliac ligament. The length of the SIJ (distance …

- Successful outcomes in adolescent varicocele treatment with high-level laparoscopic varicocelectomy. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The high-level ligation of the spermatic veins cranial to the linea terminalis during laparoscopic varicocelectomy, independent of the technique applied, may contribute to reasonable low hydrocele and recurrence rates.

- Biomechanical comparison of three different fixation techniques for anterior column posterior hemitransverse acetabular fractures using anterior intrapelvic approach. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: A combination of posterior lag screws over a suprapectineal plate and an infrapectineal plate supporting the pelvic brim along both sides of the linea terminalis resulted in a better fixation construct than a suprapectineal plate accompanying with a vertical infrapectineal plate provide better stability with less fracture displacement.

- Comparison of different fixation methods of bicolumnar acetabular fractures. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: In double column fractures, if the reduction does not require an anterior approach, it is not necessary to fix the iliac wing fracture only to improve the stability of the fixation. If the reduction does require an anterior approach, it is worth fixing the iliac wing fracture with the technically less demanding screw fixation.
