- Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder: transition to psychotic disorders. [Review]Mol Psychiatry. 2026 Oct 14. [Online ahead of print]MP
- It is well recognized that Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is associated with heightened risk for common psychiatric disorders; early identification and treatment of ADHD may help reduce some of this risk. However, the substantially increased risk of bipolar disorder, psychosis, and schizophrenia (hereafter psychotic disorders) is often overlooked (odds ratios 4.7-8.9). Given how …

- Voice features in paediatric ADHD: baseline group differences and longitudinal change under methylphenidate. [Journal Article]Eur Child Adolesc Psychiatry. 2026 Oct 14. [Online ahead of print]EC
- Diagnosis and treatment monitoring of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) largely rely on subjective assessments, highlighting the need for objective markers. Voice features and speech embeddings represent promising candidates, as they may offer an objective, scalable and clinically valuable complement to current practice. Yet it remains largely unclear which features are most informa…

- Long-Term Treatment Patterns in Norwegian ADHD-Medicine Users: A Cohort Register-Based Study With 5 Years of Follow-Up, 2012-2021. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: In Norway, most incident ADHD medication users met a dispensing-based definition of non-persistence within 5 years. Switching was frequent, but most first switches occurred within the same active substance rather than between substances, suggesting that many observed changes in dispensing data may reflect product substitution or formulation change rather than a true change in pharmacological strategy. These findings may improve interpretation of long-term treatment trajectories.

- Methylphenidate and Long-Term Risk of Cardiovascular Diseases: A Nationwide Cohort Study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest that methylphenidate use may be associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases. Although the calibrated estimates indicate attenuation due to residual confounding, the association remained statistically significant. This supports recommendations for cardiovascular monitoring during treatment.

- Investigating Potential Adverse Drug Reactions of Lisdexamfetamine Using Sequence Symmetry Analysis. [Journal Article]
- The prevalence of ADHD is increasing rapidly, and lisdexamfetamine is increasingly popular, but few studies investigate its safety. We performed a sequence symmetry analysis (SSA) using Danish register data to identify potential ADRs associated with lisdexamfetamine in 2013-2023. Outcomes were incident prescriptions or incident discharge diagnoses. We calculated trend-adjusted sequence ratios (SR…

- Improvement in Domestic Violence and Aggression in Comorbid ADHD and Conduct Disorder Following Methylphenidate Initiation: A Case Report. [Case Reports]
- Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and conduct disorder (CD) are diagnoses that are frequently comorbid. CD is characterised by persistent dissocial, aggressive, and defiant behaviors that defy age-appropriate expectations. This is the case of a 15-year-old male adoptee referred to Tier 3 Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) for severe aggression, impulsivity, and domes…

- Stable Overall Volume, Shifting Structure: Nine Years of Paediatric Outpatient Prescribing and Dispensing in Finland, 2017-2025. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Overall paediatric dispensation volume in Finland was broadly stable across 2017-2025, but the underlying structure changed substantially. Antibiotic stewardship gains held, central nervous system medicine use rose continuously, and the channel mix shifted toward private paediatric care for younger children. If access to private care depends on family resources, this shift may widen inequalities in children's access to prescribed medicines, although socioeconomic factors were not assessed here.

- Treatment Trajectories of Methylphenidate versus Risperidone in Preschool ADHD: A 12-Week Retrospective Study. [Journal Article]Turk Psikiyatri Derg. 2026; 37:248-257.TP
- CONCLUSIONS: Both methylphenidate and risperidone monotherapies were associated with substantial reductions in core diagnostic ADHD symptoms over 12 weeks in preschool children. However, they demonstrated distinct trajectories across broader functional domains: functional improvement emerged earlier in children receiving methylphenidate, whereas children receiving risperidone showed a more gradual and time-dependent pattern of behavioral improvement.

- Modulatory Effects of Buspirone on Psychostimulant-Induced Behavioral Alterations under Chronic Restraint Stress in Rats. [Journal Article]ACS Pharmacol Transl Sci. 2026 Sep 11; 9(9):2606-2616.AP
- Psychostimulants such as methylphenidate (MPH) and modafinil (MOD) are effective in attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and narcolepsy but may induce behavioral activation, anxiety-like responses, and cognitive alterations, particularly under stress. Buspirone (BUS), a nonsedative anxiolytic acting as a partial 5-HT1A receptor agonist, may influence stimulant-related behavioral effects. This…

- From Multiple Treatment Failures to Functional Improvement With Lower-Sodium Oxybate in Idiopathic Hypersomnia: A Case Report. [Case Reports]
- Idiopathic hypersomnia (IH) is a chronic central disorder of hypersomnolence characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness despite adequate or prolonged sleep, with potentially substantial effects on occupational functioning, cognition, and driving safety. Pharmacologic management may be challenging when treatment is limited by inadequate efficacy or adverse effects. We report a young woman with …

- Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has been increasingly associated with chronic inflammation and may contribute to early cardiovascular risk. Although subclinical atherosclerosis has been documented in drug-naive children with ADHD, whether methylphenidate treatment status is associated with differences in subclinical atherosclerotic markers remains unknown. This study aimed to eval…
