  • In vivo electrophysiology in head-fixed and freely moving mole-rats. [Journal Article]
    Cell Rep Methods. 2026 Oct 01; :101614. [Online ahead of print]Shirdhankar R, Saeedi A, … Malkemper EPCR
  • Mole-rats are subterranean rodents with sensory and physiological adaptations to life in underground tunnels, yet their neurobiology remains largely unexplored. We present methods for in vivo electrophysiological recordings in awake, head-fixed, and freely moving African mole-rats (Fukomys anselli and Fukomys micklemi), addressing their unique anatomy and physiology. We report anesthesia, analges…
  • Ultrahigh piezoelectricity by polaron-defect complexes. [Journal Article]
    Science. 2026 Oct; 394(6819):118-124.Shu L, Peng G, … Li JFSci
  • Materials capable of delivering giant and rapid piezoelectric responses at kilohertz frequencies are pivotal for advanced electromechanical technologies. However, their development has been constrained by a long-standing magnitude-speed trade-off: Ferroelectrics with intrinsic electric dipoles offer fast response but limited polarization, whereas ionic defect motion generates highly polarizable d…
  • New Primary and Secondary Prevention Measures for Cutaneous Melanoma: A Systematic Review. [Systematic Review]
    Cancer Rep (Hoboken). 2026 Oct; 9(10):e70698.Palau-Del-Valle M, Bendala-Tufanisco E, López-Ruiz MACR
  • CONCLUSIONS: Two new primary prevention approaches were identified, but both require further research before clinical implementation: aspirin as a potential chemoprotective agent and a possible genetic association between height and age-related nevus regression. Both require further study. Emerging diagnostic technologies, including AI-assisted tools and wearable biosensors for in situ tyrosinase detection, demonstrated high sensitivity but variable specificity, requiring further validation before routine clinical use. Population-based screening, patient education and risk-stratified surveillance improved early melanoma detection, particularly among high-risk populations. Most studies achieved moderate to high methodological quality, but diagnostic accuracy studies revealed some issues showing that require relevant improvements in diagnostic accuracy and standardization. The use of biomarkers is a promising new tool for early diagnosis.
  • Mole or Early Melanoma? Rethinking Early Detection, Overdiagnosis, and the Benign-Malignant Paradigm. [Review]
    Int J Dermatol. 2026 Oct; 65 Suppl 1:S5-S14.Barnhill R, Swerlick RAIJ
  • Melanoma early detection has been widely promoted on the assumption that diagnosing early tumors improves outcomes, but epidemiologic data increasingly challenge this assumption. In fair-skinned populations subjected to intensified surveillance, diagnoses of thin invasive and in situ melanomas have risen sharply without corresponding declines in advanced disease or melanoma-related mortality, a p…
  • Can We Diagnose Early Melanoma by Genomics? [Review]
Int J Dermatol. 2026 Oct; 65 Suppl 1:S15-S34.Wyant WA, Moslehi D, Lo JAIJ
  • Melanoma incidence has increased approximately 6-fold over the past 40 years, driven primarily by melanoma in situ and thin invasive melanomas, which are among the most subjective lesions to diagnose on histopathology. This review examines whether genomics clarifies the "gray zone" between benign and malignant pigmented lesions, or instead recasts existing histopathologic ambiguity in molecular t…
  • Structure, function, and mechanism of Rodentia vocalizations across the lifespan. [Journal Article]
Behav Brain Res. 2026 Sep 26; :116485. [Online ahead of print]Solaja D, Gustison MLBB
  • Vocalizations are an integral way that rodents and many other mammals communicate. Historically, research on rodent vocalizations focused on laboratory-derived strains of two species, house mice (Mus musculus), and brown rats (Rattus norvegicus). However, with over 2,000 species, Rodentia is one of the largest vertebrate orders with many other species available for communication research. In this…
