- Giant cell myocarditis: from immune pathogenesis to contemporary management. [Review]Heart Fail Rev. 2026 Aug 21; 31(1).HF
- Giant cell myocarditis (GCM) is a rare but devastating inflammatory cardiac disease characterized by rapid hemodynamic deterioration, malignant arrhythmias, and high rates of death or heart transplantation. Without immunosuppressive treatment, median transplant-free survival is approximately three months. Current evidence identifies GCM as a predominantly T cell-mediated autoimmune disorder drive…

- First Moroccan ABO-Incompatible Living Donor Kidney Transplantation: Successful Desensitization Without Intravenous Immunoglobulin. [Journal Article]Transplant Proc. 2026 Aug 20. [Online ahead of print]TP
- ABO-incompatible (ABOi) living donor kidney transplantation (LDKTx) has become an established strategy for overcoming blood group barriers and expanding access to transplantation. However, its implementation remains limited in many developing countries because of the complexity and cost associated with desensitization protocols. We report the first ABO-incompatible LDKTx performed in Morocco. A 2…

- Early Corticosteroid Protocols in Liver Transplantation: A Survey of Canadian and American Centers. [Journal Article]Transplant Proc. 2026 Aug 19. [Online ahead of print]TP
- CONCLUSIONS: Immunosuppressive strategies following liver transplantation vary substantially across centers particularly corticosteroid use. Regimens appear to be adjusted across components rather than applied uniformly. Further work is needed to relate immunosuppressive intensity to clinical outcomes.

- Longitudinal Evaluation of Serum Varicella-zoster Virus Viral Load in a Woman with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Complicated by a Visceral Disseminated Varicella-zoster Virus Infection: A Case Report. [Journal Article]Intern Med. 2026 Aug 19. [Online ahead of print]IM
- Visceral disseminated varicella-zoster virus infection (VD-VZV) is a rare but life-threatening condition, and treatment-response monitoring has not yet been established. We report a case of a 47-year-old woman with systemic lupus erythematosus who developed primary varicella complicated by VD-VZV during prednisolone and mycophenolate mofetil therapy. She presented with a generalized vesicular ras…

- Venetoclax-augmented RIC allogeneic HCT with PTCy-based GVHD prophylaxis and venetoclax/azacitidine maintenance for poor risk MDS and AML. [Journal Article]Transplant Cell Ther. 2026 Aug 19. [Online ahead of print]TC
- CONCLUSIONS: We demonstrate acceptable safety and encouraging efficacy of ven/FluBu2 with PTCy in an exceedingly high risk cohort and equivalent outcomes in comparison with Tac/MTX GVHD prophylaxis. Subtle differences in tolerability however highlight the need for additional studies to confirm the optimal backbone for poor-risk MDS/AML cases.

- Control of regulated and emerging silage mycotoxins. [Journal Article]J Dairy Sci. 2026 Aug 19. [Online ahead of print]JD
- Silage, particularly corn silage, represents one of the major routes of mycotoxin exposure in dairy production systems due to the widespread occurrence of metabolites originating from both field and storage fungi. Although ensiling is intended to preserve forage through anaerobic fermentation, microbiological and biochemical processes occurring before and after harvest and during ensiling, storag…

- Outcomes after 7/8 and <7/8 mismatched unrelated donor PBSC transplantation with PTCy: results from the ACCESS trial. [Journal Article]Blood Adv. 2026 Aug 19. [Online ahead of print]BA
- ACCESS is a prospective, multicenter phase II trial evaluating peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) transplantation using 4-7/8 HLA-mismatched unrelated donors (MMUD) with post-transplant cyclophosphamide (PTCy), tacrolimus, and mycophenolate. Adults undergoing first HCT with myeloablative (MAC) or reduced-intensity/nonmyeloablative (RIC/NMA) conditioning were enrolled, with donors aged 18-35 years …

- Purpureocillium lilacinum Pneumonia in Myositis-Associated Interstitial Lung Disease: Successful Treatment With Oral Itraconazole. [Case Reports]
- Purpureocillium lilacinum (P. lilacinum) is a rare opportunistic mold that predominantly affects immunocompromised hosts and exhibits intrinsic resistance to several conventional antifungal agents. Pulmonary infection is uncommon, and only a limited number of cases have been reported in patients with autoimmune connective tissue diseases receiving immunosuppressive therapy. We report a 37-year-ol…

- Laryngeal Complications of Dermatomyositis: A Case Report and Comprehensive Review of the Literature. [Journal Article]
- Dermatomyositis is an immune-mediated inflammatory myopathy characterized by progressive proximal muscle weakness with sparing of distal muscles, accompanied by cutaneous manifestations. Laryngeal involvement in patients with dermatomyositis is extremely rare, with only seven cases described in the literature. We report the case of a 21-year-old man with dermatomyositis who presented with dysphon…

- Treatment of anti-GAD65 antibody-positive epilepsy and cerebellar ataxia with efgartigimod: a case report and literature review. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: This case demonstrates that anti-GAD65 antibody syndrome can present as concurrent refractory epilepsy and cerebellar ataxia. The sequential regimen of efgartigimod induction combined with mycophenolate mofetil maintenance appears effective and safe. This therapeutic strategy may provide a valuable reference for the clinical management of such rare autoimmune neurological disorders.

- Real-World Treatment Patterns in Rheumatoid Arthritis-Associated Interstitial Lung Disease. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Most ACR/CHEST first-line recommended therapies for RA-ILD treatment were infrequently used among VA patients with RA-ILD between 2006 and 2021. These findings illustrate real-world use of RA-ILD therapies and suggest that treatment decisions in RA-ILD are guided by many factors in addition to ILD severity.

- Everolimus-based immunosuppression induces alloreactive regulatory T cell expansion combined with loss of alloreactive effector T cells. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrated that everolimus-combined with low dose tacrolimus and mycophenolate mofetil combined with standard dose of tacrolimus employ different mechanisms to effectively control the alloimmune response facilitating patient-tailored immunosuppression in elderly kidney transplant recipients.

- A multi-centre study of belatacept and sirolimus for islet transplantation. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Baseline immunosuppression with bela/siro facilitated early islet engraftment and rates of insulin independence, with less impact on renal function, supporting the rationale for routine use in islet transplantation.

- CONCLUSIONS: In this real-world study, RTX plus MMF was associated with favourable longitudinal FVC% trajectories compared with RTX monotherapy in a non-randomised cohort, despite greater baseline disease severity in the MTT group. These findings support prospective evaluation of MTT particularly in high-risk patients.
