- The association between e-cigarette use and dyslipidemia: A systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies. [Systematic Review]PLoS One. 2026; 21(10):e0361200.Plos
- CONCLUSIONS: This synthesis suggests that e-cigarette use may be associated with adverse lipid profiles, but the evidence remains observational and of very low certainty, limiting causal inference. Further well-designed longitudinal studies, using validated smoking-status assessment, detailed vaping exposure measures, fasting lipid panels, repeated lipid measurements, and adjustment for key cardiometabolic confounders, are needed to clarify these associations.

- Toxicants Released from Cigarette Butt and Other Tobacco and Nicotine Product Waste and Their Ecotoxicological Impact: A Systematic Review with One Health Perspectives. [Review]Toxics. 2026 Sep 23; 14(10).T
- Cigarette butt waste is a widespread form of tobacco-related litter and an increasingly recognized source of environmental contamination. This systematic review synthesized evidence on the environmental impacts of cigarette butts and other tobacco and nicotine product waste, including contaminant release, plastic-derived particle generation, affected environmental matrices, ecotoxicological effec…

- Effects of E-Liquids and Their Aerosols with and Without Flavors on OKF6/TERT-2 Oral Epithelial Cells: Consequences of Heating and Aerosolization on Cell Viability. [Journal Article]Dent J (Basel). 2026 Oct 09; 14(10).DJ
- Background: Multiple effects of flavored E-liquids or E-liquid aerosols on various cell lines have been reported. However, concentrations of E-liquids and aerosols are not usually equivalent, making it difficult to determine the relative effect heating and aerosolization plays on the cells tested. To match concentrations of E-liquids with their aerosols, the mass and the concentration of the E-li…

- The Adverse Effects of Electronic Cigarettes on Oral Health: Where Do We Stand? [Review]Dent J (Basel). 2026 Oct 08; 14(10).DJ
- Background/Objectives. Electronic cigarettes allow smokers to consume nicotine, a highly addictive substance, without burning tobacco. Since their commercialization in early 2004, electronic cigarettes have become popular in the Asian market and then worldwide. Initially conceived as an alternative to combustible smoking, they have gradually established themselves as a mass consumption product, r…

- Effects of E-Cigarette Aerosol Extracts on Human Neutrophil Viability and Inflammatory Responses to Streptococcus mutans. [Journal Article]Dent J (Basel). 2026 Oct 07; 14(10).DJ
- Background/Objective: The increasing use of electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) has raised concerns about their possible effects on oral immune responses. Neutrophils are essential for host defense against cariogenic bacteria such as Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans), and impaired neutrophil function may facilitate the progression of oral diseases. This study aims to investigate whether exposure …

- Impact of Traditional and Alternative Nicotine-Containing Product Use on Non-Surgical Periodontal Therapy: A Systematic Review and Network Meta-Analysis. [Review]Dent J (Basel). 2026 Sep 22; 14(10).DJ
- Background/Objectives: Alternative nicotine-containing products have gained popularity in recent years. Our aim is to compare clinical periodontal outcomes following non-surgical periodontal therapy (NSPT) among patients with periodontitis according to nicotine exposure status: cigarette smokers (CS), former smokers (FS), quitters (Q), users of electronic cigarettes (EC), smokeless tobacco users …

- Physicians' Knowledge Level, Sources of Information, and Clinical Smoking Cessation Practices Regarding Electronic Cigarettes: A Cross-sectional Study in Adana, Türkiye. [Journal Article]Thorac Res Pract. 2026 Oct 26. [Online ahead of print]TR
- CONCLUSIONS: Physicians' e-cigarette knowledge was moderate to high, but was not associated with general smoking cessation counseling practices, which were not assessed as e-cigarette-specific. Educational interventions should incorporate structured clinical protocols in addition to knowledge transfer.

- Global trends and hotspots of genetic research on non-syndromic cleft lip with or without cleft palate: a bibliometric and bioinformatics analysis. [Systematic Review]Front Genet. 2026; 17:1907333.FG
- CONCLUSIONS: This study clarified the publication trends, key research forces, disciplinary distributions, and hotspots in NSCL/P genetics, revealing an ongoing shift in research focus. In silico network analyses of public databases identified distinct molecular pathways mediating alcohol- and nicotine-induced developmental disorders. These findings provide reliable evidence for future mechanistic exploration of NSCL/P pathogenesis.

- CONCLUSIONS: The Hungarian GNTH self-audit tool represents a novel quality improvement and management instrument for healthcare organizations. Its implementation may facilitate the transition from passive regulatory compliance towards a proactive, systems-based and data-driven institutional approach to tobacco and nicotine control. The methodology also provides a foundation for benchmarking, continuous quality improvement, and the future development of a national professional network supporting tobacco-free healthcare services. - A single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) of the alpha5 subunit of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) increases human risk for nicotine dependence, alcohol use disorders (AUDs), and schizophrenia. Here, we used transgenic mice carrying either this SNP (rs16969968; α5SNP/α5KI) or a Chrna5 knockout (α5KO) to examine the role of α5-containing nAChRs in affective state discrimination and prosoci…
