  • Effects of Virtual Reality on Pain, Anxiety, and Fear During Thyroid Fine-Needle Aspiration Biopsy: Open-Label Randomized Controlled Trial. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
    J Med Internet Res. 2026 Oct 06; 28:e103829.Karadeniz E, Arda H, Arslan Cellat EGJM
  • CONCLUSIONS: The adjusted analysis suggested a small reduction in procedural pain with VR; however, the between-group difference was not statistically significant in the unadjusted analysis and reached statistical significance only after adjustment for baseline pain and 2 nonprespecified covariates selected on the basis of observed baseline imbalance. Moreover, the observed adjusted effect (f=0.207) was smaller than the minimum effect size the trial was powered to detect (f=0.283). No statistically significant adjusted between-group effects were found for anxiety or fear of pain. Therefore, the potential analgesic effect of VR should be interpreted cautiously and confirmed in larger, adequately powered trials.
  • A Unique Case of Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis Presenting with Proximal Muscle Weakness. [Journal Article]
Mod Rheumatol Case Rep. 2026 Oct 06. [Online ahead of print]Chen JL, Baber K, … Ainapurapu BMR
  • Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) is a subtype of ANCA-associated vasculitis that can have a heterogeneous clinical presentation. Although classically involving the respiratory tract and kidneys, GPA can rarely present with predominant skeletal muscle involvement. This is unique given that skeletal muscle involvement has predominantly been associated with eosinophilic GPA and microscopic pol…
  • Metastatic colorectal carcinoma to the thyroid gland: A case report and literature review. [Case Reports]
    Biomed Rep. 2026 Nov; 25(5):130.Chen J, Wang A, … Ma CBR
  • Although thyroid metastasis from colorectal carcinoma (CRC) is exceedingly rare, with a reported clinical incidence of ~0.1-0.3%, its detection typically signifies advanced-stage systemic disease. This atypical metastatic pattern generally correlates with a terminal stage and a historically poor prognosis, with a reported 5-year survival rate of <15%. A 78-year-old female presented with advanced …
  • Segmental Arterial Mediolysis in the Superficial Temporal Artery of a Young Patient: A Case Report. [Case Reports]
    J Plast Reconstr Surg. 2026 Sep 27; 5(5):459-463.Matsuda Y, Ohni S, … Soejima KJP
  • Segmental arterial mediolysis (SAM) is a rare arterial degenerative disease that starts with degeneration of the smooth muscle layer, leading to aneurysm formation. SAM commonly occurs in the colonic arteries and other abdominal, vertebral, internal carotid, coronary, and pulmonary arteries. Early detection is crucial because of the risk of intra-abdominal or subarachnoid hemorrhage. This report …
  • Primary pulmonary hyalinizing clear cell carcinoma harboring EWSR1::ATF1 fusion: a case report. [Journal Article]
Gen Thorac Cardiovasc Surg Cases. 2026 Oct 05; 5(1).Teishikata T, Hashiguchi M, … Kamohara KGT
  • CONCLUSIONS: Accurately distinguishing primary pulmonary HCCC, which is rare and may mimic MEC, is essential for appropriate pathological classification and prognostic assessment. It is also important for thoracic surgeons to consider HCCC during the differential diagnosis of centrally located or endobronchial pulmonary tumors, particularly when a definitive preoperative diagnosis is challenging. Integrating histopathology with molecular testing for EWSR1 and MAML2 rearrangements is critical for accurate diagnosis.
  • Visit adherence and clinical, inflammatory, and patient-reported outcomes in rheumatoid arthritis: a cross-sectional study. [Journal Article]
Clin Rheumatol. 2026 Oct 06. [Online ahead of print]Ertürk R, Öncar LS, … Bilici RCR
  • CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates that patients with higher disease activity, greater inflammation, and clinical symptoms such as morning stiffness are more likely to struggle with adherence to visits. The findings suggest that targeted interventions-such as tailored education, reminders, flexible scheduling, and additional patient support-should be implemented to help these patients adhere to visits. Improving visit adherence may enhance treatment outcomes, reduce complications, and increase quality of life for these patients. Key Points • Low visit adherence in rheumatoid arthritis is associated with higher disease activity, increased inflammatory burden, and poorer quality of life. • Patients with visit non-compliance had significantly worse functional, psychological, and disease activity scores. • Improving regular follow-up adherence may contribute to better disease control and improved clinical outcomes in rheumatoid arthritis.
