- The near extinction of the RAPTOR: a cautionary tale. [Review]Can J Surg. 2026; 69(5):E433-E435.CJ
- SummaryTrauma hybrid operating rooms (THORs) integrate diagnostic imaging with open surgical capabilities to provide both surgical and interventional radiology procedures, such as may be required by exsanguinating patients, in a single physical location. The world's first trauma program-designed THOR, designated the Resuscitation with Angiography, Percutaneous Treatments, and Operative Repair (RA…

- Endovascular Iliac Stenting versus Open Aortobifemoral Bypass for Aortoiliac Occlusive Disease: A Retrospective Multicentre Cohort Study. [Journal Article]Ann Vasc Surg. 2026 Oct 14. [Online ahead of print]AV
- CONCLUSIONS: Open bypass confers a substantial mid-term patency and reintervention-free survival advantage over endovascular reconstruction for AIOD, most pronounced in TASC D and CLTI subgroups, without a corresponding difference in limb salvage or survival. These findings support risk-stratified rather than uniformly endovascular-first treatment selection, pending confirmation from the ongoing EVOCC randomised trial.

- Endoscopic versus open great saphenous vein harvesting for lower extremity arterial bypass: A systematic review, meta-analysis and meta-regression. [Review]J Vasc Surg. 2026 Oct 14. [Online ahead of print]JV
- CONCLUSIONS: EVH significantly reduces wound complications but is associated with lower primary patency and potentially longer operative times compared with OVH, disadvantages that do not translate into differences in secondary patency, limb salvage, major amputation, or mortality. Further prospective studies are needed to define the role of EVH to better inform LEAB operative planning.

- A Novel Case Report of Closed-Loop Spinal Cord Stimulation for Neuropathic Pain in Cervical Spinal Cord Injury. [Case Reports]Pain Med Case Rep. 2026 Sep; 10(7):607-611.PM
- CONCLUSIONS: CL-SCS may provide meaningful, sustained analgesia and functional benefit in select patients with complete cervical SCI. Systematic studies are needed to quantify benefit, durability, and risk.
- A Prospective Randomized Trial to Assess Early versus Delayed Weight Bearing Following Operatively Treated Ankle Fractures in the United States. [Journal Article]J Orthop Trauma. 2026 Oct 14. [Online ahead of print]JO
- CONCLUSIONS: Trial findings add to the growing evidence demonstrating the safety of early weight bearing after fixation of bimalleolar and trimalleolar ankle fracture without syndesmotic disruption, a key concern for both clinicians and patients. However, no statistically significant benefit of earlier return-to-work was found.

- The role of venoactive drugs in a modern treatment paradigm: evidence review. [Journal Article]J Cardiovasc Surg (Torino). 2026 Oct 14. [Online ahead of print]JC
- Chronic venous disease (CVD) causes substantial symptom burden and healthcare cost, driven not only by venous hypertension but by a persistent molecular cascade of endothelial activation, glycocalyx degradation, and inflammation within the vein wall. Venoactive drugs (VADs) - a heterogeneous class of flavonoid, synthetic, animal-derived, and plant-derived compounds - target this cascade and are r…

- Surgical Management of Killian-Jamieson Diverticulum: A Systematic Review of Open and Endoscopic Outcomes. [Review]Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg. 2026 Oct 14. [Online ahead of print]OH
- CONCLUSIONS: Both open and endoscopic surgery for KJD achieve favorable symptom outcomes with low complication rates, and current evidence does not show clear superiority of one approach. Given the rarity of KJD and the small size of existing series, this review provides the most comprehensive synthesis to date of surgical outcomes and perioperative risks across open and endoscopic techniques.

- The Impact of Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 Receptor Agonist-Induced Nutritional Deficiencies on Skin Health: A Narrative Review With a Proposed Framework for the Aesthetic Practitioner. [Review]Aesthet Surg J Open Forum. 2026; 8:ojag169.AS
- Semaglutide and tirzepatide have reshaped obesity care, and aesthetic practitioners increasingly encounter patients with rapid-weight-loss-associated facial volume loss and skin changes. Nutritional deficiency may be an underrecognized contributor to impaired dermal repair during glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1RA) therapy. The authors reviewed and synthesized evidence across metab…

- A Case of Severe Necrotizing Soft-tissue Infection With Reconstruction of the Mid-lower Leg Using a Distally Based Pedicled Gracilis Muscle Flap. [Case Reports]Plast Reconstr Surg Glob Open. 2026 Oct; 14(10):e8096.PR
- Here, we report the management of a severe necrotizing soft-tissue infection involving the entire lower limb of a man in his 70s. The infection originated from a lower leg hematoma that developed during anticoagulant therapy for deep vein thrombosis. Necrosis extended from the deep thigh to the lower leg, involving areas surrounding critical structures such as the femoral artery, sciatic nerve, a…

- Associations of Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator Flap Weight with Postoperative Complications and Revisions. [Journal Article]Plast Reconstr Surg Glob Open. 2026 Oct; 14(10):e8162.PR
- CONCLUSIONS: Flap weight correlated with complications in select BMI subgroups, most notably BMI 30-35, although findings were inconsistent across groups. Further study is needed to better understand the multifactorial relationship between flap weight and postoperative outcomes.

- Transfascial Paraspinal Versus Conventional Open Posterior Pedicle Screw Fixation for Thoracolumbar Fractures: A Randomized Controlled Trial. [Journal Article]Cureus. 2026 Sep; 18(9):e116169.C
- CONCLUSIONS: The transfascial paraspinal approach achieves radiological correction equivalent to that of the conventional open posterior approach while significantly reducing operative time, blood loss, wound drainage, hospital stay, and postoperative pain. In appropriately selected patients with AO Spine Type A thoracolumbar fractures, it represents an effective, reproducible, and safe muscle-sparing alternative to conventional open fixation, supporting wider adoption pending confirmation in larger multicenter randomized trials with longer follow-up.

- Differential functions of ROCK1 and ROCK2 in liver fibrosis and advances in targeted therapeutic strategies. [Review]Front Pharmacol. 2026; 17:1929302.FP
- Liver fibrosis, driven by metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) and other chronic injuries, represents a global health crisis without approved pharmacological therapies. The Rho-associated coiled-coil kinases (ROCK1 and ROCK2), the principal effectors of Rho GTPases, have emerged as central nodes in fibrogenesis, yet the isoform-specific mechanisms and their translational potent…
