- Intraventricular Vancomycin for Ommaya Reservoir-Associated Staphylococcus hominis Ventriculitis in a Very Preterm Infant with Disseminated Candidiasis: A Case Report. [Case Reports]Int J Infect Dis. 2026 Oct 04; :109165. [Online ahead of print]IJ
- CONCLUSIONS: IVT vancomycin at 5 mg every 48 h via an Ommaya reservoir may represent a safe and effective salvage treatment for CoNS ventriculitis in preterm infants when systemic antibiotics fail. Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) may be particularly important because CSF vancomycin levels vary greatly between individuals. This case provides one of the first serial CSF vancomycin trough measurements in a very preterm infant, suggesting a potential empiric starting approach for IVT vancomycin in this population.

- Hospital-Based Surveillance of Antimicrobial Resistance in Southern Brazil: Resistance Profiles and Phenotypic Carbapenemase Screening. [Journal Article]Indian J Med Microbiol. 2026 Oct 01; :101309. [Online ahead of print]IJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Carbapenem resistance was particularly concerning among non-fermenting Gram-negative bacteria, especially A. baumannii and P. aeruginosa. The findings support stronger antimicrobial stewardship, infection-prevention measures, and laboratory-based surveillance. Molecular studies are required to define the underlying resistance determinants and investigate possible clonal dissemination.

- Risk Factors Associated With Multidrug Resistant Organism (MDRO) Isolates in Infected Diabetic Foot Ulcers (DFU): An Analytical Cross-sectional Study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: There is a high burden of multidrug resistant organism infection in diabetic foot ulcers with significant association in higher ulcer grades. A previous admission for diabetic foot ulcer significantly increases the odds for MDRO infection in succeeding diabetic foot infections.

- Re-Emerging Bacterial Pathogens, Resistance Genes and Promising Bioindicators in Raw and Treated Sewage-Addressing a Known Issue from a Different Angle and Perspective. [Journal Article]
- Municipal wastewater catchments are significant sources of symbiotic, opportunistic, and drug-resistant bacteria that can acquire or enhance their resistance. This "re-emergence of threats" presents a serious public health issue, especially during crisis conditions (COVID-19). The aim of this study was to propose a sampling algorithm, identify strategically important sites within the wastewater c…

- Prevalence and Phenotypic Antimicrobial Resistance of Listeria monocytogenes from Animal-Derived Foods: A Scoping Review. [Review]
- Listeria monocytogenes is one of the leading foodborne pathogens and an increasing public health concern because of the emergence of antimicrobial-resistant strains. This scoping review aimed to synthesize the available evidence on the prevalence and phenotypic antimicrobial resistance profiles of L. monocytogenes in animal-derived foods. The review was conducted following the Joanna Briggs Insti…

- The Combined Strategy of Baicalin and Oxacillin Sodium Against Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus: Biofilm Inhibition, Virulence Attenuation and In Vivo Anti-Infection Efficacy. [Journal Article]
- Over the past few years, considerable scholarly interest has been directed toward the synergistic application of natural compounds alongside conventional antibiotics to address infections stemming from multidrug-resistant (MDR) pathogens. The primary objective of this research is to investigate the efficacy of baicalin (BA), an extract obtained from Scutellaria baicalensis, when used in conjuncti…

- Discovery of a Novel Benzothiophene Inhibitor of Penicillin-Binding Protein 2 with Potent Gram-Positive Activity. [Journal Article]
- Background/Objectives: The emergence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) highlights the need for new antibacterial agents. Here, we report the identification and evaluation of a novel Gram-positive selective antibacterial: NDM-552. Methods: Antibacterial activity was determined by broth microdilution against a panel of Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens. Mechanistic studi…

- Methicillin resistance and antimicrobial non-susceptibility trends among Staphylococcus aureus clinical isolates in Aseer, Saudi Arabia (2013-2024): A retrospective laboratory-based surveillance study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: In this single-center Aseer surveillance, MRSA became the majority of S. aureus during 2013-2024 and showed broad multidrug non-susceptibility, while vancomycin and daptomycin retained full in vitro activity. These local findings support sustained laboratory-based surveillance, Aseer-tailored empirical and stewardship guidance, and confirmatory testing of the emerging low-level linezolid non-susceptibility signal.

- Lactococcosis is an important bacterial disease affecting farmed fish worldwide and is primarily associated with Lactococcus garvieae, Lactococcus petauri, and Lactococcus formosensis. In Thailand, information on L. garvieae infection in tilapia remains limited, particularly regarding genome-based identification, virulence determinants, and antimicrobial resistance profiles. - Multiple Deep Abscesses Caused by Disseminated Nocardia farcinica Infection After Immunosuppressive Treatment for Membranous Nephropathy: A Case Report and Literature Review. [Case Reports]
- Nocardia farcinica is a highly virulent opportunistic pathogen with a marked propensity to cause disseminated infection in immunocompromised hosts. Its clinical manifestations are often nonspecific, conventional empirical anti-infective therapy may be ineffective, and both misdiagnosis and mortality rates remain high. We report the case of a 20-year-old man with membranous nephropathy who develop…

- Antibiogram, antibiotic resistance genes and health risks of Listeria species from fruits and vegetables in selected locations in Nigeria. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings demonstrate that fresh produce in Nigeria is a significant reservoir of pathogenic, antimicrobial-resistant L. monocytogenes, posing a potential serious public health threat, particularly when considered at the population level. This study highlights the urgent need for targeted interventions, including enhanced agricultural water safety and strengthened surveillance of antimicrobial resistance, to mitigate risks and support evidence-based food safety policies in Nigeria and similar regions.
