- Opioid Dependence Is Associated With Increased Odds for Acute Periapical Abscesses. [Journal Article]Spec Care Dentist. 2026 Sep-Oct; 46(5):e70254.SC
- CONCLUSIONS: Under the conditions of this study, it appears that the odds for acute periapical abscesses is significantly higher in opioid-dependent patients as compared to non-users.

- Does preoperative ibuprofen reduce pain during treatment of deep caries in children? [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The study concluded that preoperative ibuprofen significantly improved intraoperative pain control and reduced stress responses during VPT in children. It was suggested that preoperative ibuprofen should be incorporated into routine practice for paediatric patients with reversible pulpitis as it will improve cooperation, reduce stress, and enhance overall treatment efficiency.

- Outcomes and Associated Prognostic Factors for Orthograde Canal Obturation Using Ortho MTA III: A Randomised Prospective Clinical Trial. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: Orthograde obturation of infected canals with Ortho MTA III demonstrated comparable success and treatment outcomes to those filled with GP and sealer by CWC, supporting its potential as a clinically viable alternative for the obturation of infected root canals.

- Prevalence of periapical abscesses in psoriasis patients: a retrospective cross-sectional study. [Journal Article]Restor Dent Endod. 2026 Aug 10. [Online ahead of print]RD
- CONCLUSIONS: Psoriasis is independently associated with an increased risk of acute PAs, even after accounting for common medical and behavioral risk factors. Greater awareness among clinicians and closer collaboration between dermatology and oral healthcare providers can facilitate earlier diagnosis and preventive treatment.

- Fibromyalgia and acute periapical abscesses. [Journal Article]Am J Dent. 2026 Aug; 39(4):173-176.AJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Clinicians should be aware of the possible higher prevalence of periapical abscesses in patients with fibromyalgia. More frequent dental visits for caries control and pulp disease prevention are warranted.
- Prevotella denticola Bacteremic Spondylodiscitis and Epidural Abscess Associated With a Periapical Lesion: A Case Report. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Jul; 18(7):e112118.C
- Prevotella denticola is an anaerobic gram-negative rod that commonly inhabits the oral cavity and is associated with periodontal and periapical infections. Vertebral osteomyelitis caused by Prevotella species is uncommon, and reports involving P. denticola are exceedingly rare. A 65-year-old man presented with progressive low back pain and difficulty walking following multiple falls. Lumbar magne…

- Outcome of Guided Pulpal Regeneration in Immature Molar Teeth with Chronic Apical Abscess: A Case Report and Mini-Review. [Journal Article]Front Dent. 2026; 23:13.FD
- This case report describes guided pulpal regeneration (GPR) of two immature permanent molar teeth with chronic apical abscess, thin dentinal walls, and open apices. Both teeth were treated with an identical protocol in two sessions, with minimum instrumentation with hand files, irrigation with 1.5% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), and application of 1:1 mixture of ciprofloxacin and metronidazole as a…

- Nasal Fistula Associated With Dental Infection Following Severe Tooth Injury: A Case Study. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Jul; 18(7):e111862.C
- Dental pulp infection is predominantly initiated by anaerobic, gram-negative bacterial flora introduced through dental caries, operative dental procedures, or severe tooth injury, which can lead to pulp necrosis. A 39-year-old man developed an extra-nasal sinus tract on the right side of the nostril following trauma to the right maxillary central incisor. He presented with a chief complaint of a …

- Periapical abscess precipitating diabetic ketoacidosis and reversible sepsis-induced cardiomyopathy: a case report. [Case Reports]Front Endocrinol (Lausanne). 2026; 17:1853265.FE
- CONCLUSIONS: This case underscores that odontogenic infection can be a potent trigger for life-threatening DKA and septic shock with multi-organ dysfunction in diabetic patients. It highlights the critical importance of thorough physical examination, including oral cavity inspection, in the evaluation of sepsis or DKA. The presentation and complete reversibility of SICM reinforce that treatment must focus on correcting the underlying septic and metabolic insults. Early multidisciplinary management is essential for optimal outcomes.

- Combined Piezoelectric and Laser Therapy for Severely Compromised Teeth: Two Case Reports. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Combined piezoelectric and Nd:YAG laser therapy was associated with substantial clinical and radiographic improvement in periodontally hopeless teeth, suggesting a minimally invasive alternative to extraction in selected cases with severe attachment loss, when bacterial control and patient compliance are favorable.

- Performance of large language models on undergraduate endodontic multiple-choice questions. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Advanced LLMs demonstrated promising performance in answering undergraduate endodontic multiple-choice questions and may serve as useful adjunctive tools in dental education. However, differences among models and variations in performance across topics highlight the need for critical evaluation of AI-generated responses before their educational use.

- Diagnosis and management of X-linked hypophosphatemia in dental practice: A scoping review. [Journal Article]Bone. 2026 Nov; 212:117994.BONE
- X-linked hypophosphatemia (XLH) is a PHEX-related disorder causing elevated FGF23, chronic hypophosphatemia, and impaired skeletal and dental mineralization, leading to frequent endodontic abscess in clinically sound teeth due to intrinsic structural failure, periapical lesions and early tooth loss. To address the lack of standardized oral management, a comprehensive literature review was conduct…

- Risk factors for abscess formation during or following endodontic treatment in an outpatient setting. [Journal Article]
- This retrospective matched case-control study aimed to identify potential risk factors associated with the development of dental abscesses during or after endodontic treatment. The study analyzed data from 133 patients (74 males, 58 females; mean age 43.1 ± 16.5 years) with abscess formation of endodontic origin and compared them with a 1:1 matched control group without abscess. Matching was perf…

- Successful neonatal outcome after postmortem caesarean section at Sumbawanga Regional Referral Hospital, Rukwa, Tanzania: case report. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: Despite several limitations and the possibility of poor neonatal outcomes, a timely postmortem caesarean section performed at a favourable gestational age, in an appropriate setting with skilled personnel, basic equipment, and access to a neonatal care unit, can result in a live birth with good early neonatal outcomes even in a resource-limited environment.
