- Shape-Based Classification and Anatomical Localization of Phalanges in Hamdani Sheep and Hair Goats. [Journal Article]Anat Histol Embryol. 2026 Nov; 55(6):e70185.AH
- Reliable identification of isolated sheep and goat phalanges is challenging because of the close skeletal similarity between these species and the repeated arrangement of homologous digital bones across the forelimbs, hindlimbs, and medial-lateral positions. This study evaluated three-dimensional phalangeal shape for discrimination between 12-month-old male Hamdani sheep and Hair goats and for lo…

- Impact of Methamphetamine Use on Injury Characteristics and Postoperative Outcomes in Upper Extremity Fractures. [Journal Article]Orthopedics. 2026; 49(5):e457-e464.O
- CONCLUSIONS: Methamphetamine use was associated with higher-energy injury mechanisms and increased health care use, namely ED visits. No other estimable perioperative complication differed significantly, and no deaths occurred. Operative management should not be withheld solely because of methamphetamine use; targeted case management may reduce postoperative use.

- Evolution of minimally invasive surgery (MIS) techniques in forefoot deformity corrections. [Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: The historical maturation of forefoot MIS illustrates a continuous refinement of surgical "processes" and hardware "ingredients" aimed at optimizing clinical outcomes. Understanding this evolutionary framework provides a crucial foundation for future innovations, including the integration of bioabsorbable implants, 3D-printed instrumentation, and artificial intelligence in foot and ankle surgery.

- A prospective cross-sectional diagnostic feasibility study: musculoskeletal ultrasound for pediatric bone age evaluation. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: In this study, the CMS of the URF were strongly correlated with Tanner-Whitehouse 3 radius-ulna-short bone (TW3-RUS) radiographic bone age, suggesting that ultrasound has potential research value in pediatric bone age assessment. Because agreement and prediction-error analysis was not performed, feasibility and association with radiographic bone age of this examination method for pediatric bone age assessment requires further validation through subsequent large-sample agreement studies.

- Hand Geometry in Forensic Application: Estimating Hand Length Derived from Phalangeal Lengths. [Journal Article]Hand (N Y). 2026 Oct 12; :15589447261480182. [Online ahead of print]H
- CONCLUSIONS: This study therefore confirms the reliability of hand geometry for forensic identification, serves as an accurate sex predictor in cases with partial prints, and highlights the need for more population-specific biometric data.

- Modified radiographic classification for postaxial polydactyly of the foot: An analysis of 121 digits in 98 children. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The modified classification with excellent inter- and intra-rater reliability is more comprehensive and practical compared to the Watanabe and Lee classification and convenient for clinical communication and guiding treatment choices.

- Measured Flap Planning for Adult Complex Syndactyly Release: A Technical Case Report. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: MFPT is a structured, measurement-based protocol for pre-operative planning of flaps in adult complex syndactyly. This allowed for systematic flap marking and subsequent reconstruction. Future studies should assess its reproducibility, clinical utility, and potential advantages over traditional experience-based flap planning.

- Linear arrangement of bony outgrowths of the distal phalanges of the foot in relation to ligamentous structures: a radiological analysis. [Journal Article]Folia Morphol (Warsz). 2026; 85:e01726190.FM
- CONCLUSIONS: This pattern suggests a link with chronic overload of the ligamentous attachments and a possible enthesopathic nature. The findings indicate that this mechanism should be considered in the differential diagnosis and radiological classification of these bony changes.

- Entrapment of the Proximal Phalangeal Head by the Flexor Digitorum Superficialis Tendon as a Mechanical Block to Reduction in Open Dorsal Proximal Interphalangeal Joint Dislocations: Two Case Reports. [Journal Article]Hand (N Y). 2026 Oct 08; :15589447261493182. [Online ahead of print]H
- Most dorsal proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint dislocations can be reduced closed, but soft-tissue entrapment may prevent reduction. We report 2 open dorsal PIP joint dislocations in which the flexor digitorum profundus (FDP) tendon was displaced ulnarly. In both cases, the joint remained irreducible after the FDP tendon was restored to its normal volar position. In case 1, the ulnar condyle of…

- Combined Intramedullary-External K-Wire Fixation for Phalangeal Fractures: Description of a Surgical Technique. [Review]
- Although early mobilization is essential for functional recovery after phalangeal fractures, many fixation methods still require prolonged immobilization, increasing the risk of joint stiffness. We herein describe a simple, safe, and low-cost technique that combines intramedullary Kirschner wires (K-wires) with external connection, adapted from the Ulson method, which was originally developed for…

- Limb Preservation for Multiple Ray Osteomyelitis in Diabetic Forefoot Charcot: A Case Report. [Journal Article]
- This case report describes a very rare presentation of multifocal diabetic foot osteomyelitis (DFO) involving multiple rays and associated with forefoot Charcot neuroarthropathy. Based on magnetic resonance imaging findings and subsequent histopathological examination, the osteomyelitis was confirmed to be confined to the second and third metatarsals, the proximal phalanges of the hallux and seco…

- Introduction Injuries sustained by professional athletes can severely impact seasonal performance and future abilities. The aim of this study was to characterize the impact of phalanx, thumb, metacarpal, and carpal injuries on the performance of athletes in the National Football League (NFL). Analyzing outcomes for football players is significant because the functional demands of each position va…

- Mapping the distribution of Meissner corpuscles throughout the human hand: Sex- and age-dependent variations. [Journal Article]Anat Rec (Hoboken). 2026 Oct 05. [Online ahead of print]AR
- Meissner corpuscles are rapidly adapting mechanoreceptors involved in tactile discrimination in human glabrous hand skin. Detailed information on their regional distribution and variation across age, sex, and hand side remains limited. This study mapped Meissner corpuscles in 17 phalangeal and palmar regions from 46 individuals (27 male and 19 female) aged 3-92 years. Corpuscles were identified b…
