- Mitral Valve Transplantation: a valuable option? [Case Reports]J Thorac Cardiovasc Surg. 2026 Oct 04. [Online ahead of print]JT
- CONCLUSIONS: Mitral valve PHT is feasible and demonstrates valve viability. Durable outcomes may depend on symmetric and balanced reimplantation of the subvalvar apparatus, particularly in patients lacking native papillary muscles.

- Contours of Life and Death: A Comparative Review of Western and East Asian Philosophical Conceptions, with Implications for Bioethics. [Case Reports]Asian Bioeth Rev. 2026 Oct; 18(4):741-760.AB
- This manuscript reconceives debates about life and death by integrating conceptual clarification, methodological innovation, comparative exegesis, and an actionable empirical-normative protocol. Motivated by persistent clinical, legal, and cross-cultural conflicts; most visibly in controversies over brain-death determinations and organ procurement, this paper advances two interlocking contributio…

- Comparing NCCN-based risk groups to the PROTEUS definition of high-risk localized prostate cancer to inform peri-operative care. [Journal Article]Urol Oncol. 2026 Oct 03. [Online ahead of print]UO
- CONCLUSIONS: PROTEUS criteria, which may be cumbersome in clinical practice, identified a smaller, overlapping, but nonidentical high-risk population compared with NCCN criteria. There were no statistically significant differences in postprostatectomy oncologic outcomes between both definitions. These findings suggest that PROTEUS eligibility criteria represent a more restrictive trial-enrichment definition but may not meaningfully improve discrimination of adverse outcomes relative to standard NCCN high-risk classification.

- Virtual Doula Support After the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency: Strengths, Limitations, and Adaptations. [Journal Article]Womens Health Issues. 2026 Oct 03. [Online ahead of print]WH
- CONCLUSIONS: Virtual doula support offers meaningful advantages such as improved access and flexibility but presents certain trade-offs. Doulas expressed different opinions regarding equivalence of in-person and virtual support. There is a need for rigorous comparative effectiveness studies to inform policy and coverage decisions as virtual doula support continues to expand.

- Refined circular autopsy saw design and standardized technique for postmortem human temporal bone procurement and perilymph collection. [Journal Article]Front Neurosci. 2026; 20:1893053.FN
- Postmortem human temporal bones provide an irreplaceable resource for studying the cochlea and vestibular labyrinth in their native anatomic context, as the tissues of these organs cannot be non-destructively biopsied. However, temporal bone procurement using an intracranial circular saw blade remains technically challenging, with intermittent blade fractures despite iterative optimization of bla…

- From monoanhydride to dianhydride: molecular engineering of electrolytes for chemomechanically stable NCM613||Si/C batteries. [Journal Article]J Colloid Interface Sci. 2026 Sep 25; 728:141645. [Online ahead of print]JC
- High-energy LiNi0.6Co0.1Mn0.3O2 (NCM613) ||silicon/carbon (Si/C) full cells undergo pronounced interfacial chemomechanical degradation under high-voltage and high-temperature conditions, as repeated Si volume fluctuation, electrolyte decomposition, and transition-metal (TM) dissolution accelerate cell failure. Although monoanhydride additives such as succinic anhydride (SA) can scavenge acidic im…

- Cyphellophora adelaidensis sp. nov. isolated from a chronic elbow infection, Australia. [Case Reports]J Mycol Med. 2026 Sep 15; 36(4):101656. [Online ahead of print]JM
- The genus Cyphellophora belongs to the order Chaetothyriales, family Cyphellophoraceae, and accommodates various species that have previously been reported as a cause of infection in humans. Here, we report a case of presumptive dermal phaeohyphomycosis of the elbow from a patient in Adelaide, Australia. Biopsies showed fungal growth on culture but subsequent molecular identification by ITS seque…

- "I Was Told I Needed Both Knees Surgically Replaced, but I Walked the Camino Trail Instead." A Case Report of A 66-year-old Male with Knee Osteoarthritis. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: PN's achievement of his aspirational goal is an exemplar of the unanticipated scope of osteoarthritis improvement with best-practice non-surgical management and is shared via a video interview. Documenting and sharing such inspirational stories with people living with knee osteoarthritis may prove an important source of hope and highlight the change potential for non-surgical treatment.

- A Safe Medial Column Screw Strategy for Transcondylar Humerus Fractures in the Elderly: CT-Based Analysis of Screw Diameter and Insertion Trajectory. [Journal Article]J Shoulder Elbow Surg. 2026 Oct 01. [Online ahead of print]JS
- CONCLUSIONS: The medial column anatomically accommodated a diameter of at least 5.0 mm in most elderly patients. An approximately 5.0-mm MCS may therefore represent a candidate diameter when individual anatomy permits, although insertion trajectories require patient-specific adjustment and biomechanical validation is needed.

- Evolutionary mismatch between stomach capacity and modern diets: Implications for obesity and metabolic disease. [Review]
- Human gastrointestinal anatomy evolved under conditions of food scarcity, low-caloric-density diets, and high physical activity. In this context, a relatively gastric-accommodation stomach capacity conferred a survival advantage by allowing consumption of large volumes of fibrous, low-energy foods, buffering seasonal shortages, and maximizing intake during rare periods of abundance. Modern food e…

- Structural and Functional Characterisation of a Metagenome-Derived CYP108D18 Reveals an Unusual Dioxygen-Bound State and Selective Hydrocarbon Hydroxylation. [Journal Article]
- Cytochrome P450 enzymes form a large superfamily of monooxygenases capable of oxidising diverse substrates. Among them, members of the CYP108 family are recognised for their role in monoterpenoid oxidation. In this study, we report the identification and characterisation of a new CYP108 family member, CYP108D18, from a metagenome-assembled genome derived from microbial communities in a geothermal…

- Enhancing readiness for exposure and response prevention in obsessive compulsive disorder: ketogenic metabolic therapy as a candidate readiness adjunct. [Review]Front Psychol. 2026; 17:1770306.FP
- Exposure and response prevention (ERP) remains a first-line psychological treatment for obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), yet a clinically meaningful subset of patients cannot initiate, tolerate, or complete an adequate ERP dose even after step up in format, frequency, pharmacotherapy augmentation, or level of care. These failures are often interpreted as noncompliance, but they more often ref…
