- Comparison of Respiratory Syncytial Virus Versus Influenza-Associated Acute Respiratory Illness Hospitalizations Among Adults in North America. [Journal Article]Infect Dis Ther. 2026 Nov 03. [Online ahead of print]ID
- CONCLUSIONS: In a systematically tested cohort of adults with ARI, across US and Canadian sites, clinical characteristics and disease burden were largely similar for adults with influenza compared to those with RSV. These similarities highlight the need for multiplex viral testing and pathogen-specific surveillance strengthening to improve understanding of disease burden for these viruses that contribute significantly to morbidity and mortality across vulnerable populations. Additionally, with the recent licensure of older adult RSV vaccines, improved characterization of RSV-associated hospitalizations will facilitate vaccine impact evaluations and inform age-specific or risk-based vaccination strategies.

- Beyond equianalgesic tables: a hypothesis-generating framework for divergence between analgesic potency and drug liking across commonly prescribed opioids. [Journal Article]Support Care Cancer. 2026 Nov 04; 34(11).SC
- Equianalgesic conversion tables estimate relative opioid doses expected to provide comparable analgesia, but they were not designed to predict abuse liability, reinforcement, or subjective drug-liking effects. A small number of human laboratory studies suggest that these dimensions may diverge. Oxycodone appears to produce greater psychopharmacological effects relative to morphine than would be e…

- Ozone exposure promotes mitochondrial oxidative stress and inflammatory responses in steroid-resistant asthma by regulating Ca2+ influx through METTL14/m6A/UCP2. [Journal Article]Inflamm Res. 2026 Nov 04; 75(1).IR
- CONCLUSIONS: O3 exposure promotes Ca2+ influx by blocking the METTL14/m6A/UCP2 axis, promoting mtOS and inflammatory responses in SRA.

- Advanced Wireless Sensors for Neonatal Care in the Delivery Room - the AWARD Prospective International Study: A Research Protocol. [Journal Article]JMIR Res Protoc. 2026 Oct 30. [Online ahead of print]JR
- CONCLUSIONS: The AWARD study will provide evidence regarding the feasibility, safety, and accuracy of wireless physiological monitoring during the first two hours after birth. The findings may inform the future implementation of wireless monitoring technologies in delivery and postnatal care settings and support the design of larger clinical effectiveness studies evaluating their impact on clinical practice and neonatal outcomes.

- Epidemiological and antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of Staphylococcus aureus isolated from the nasal cavity of healthcare personnel at a public hospital in Northeastern Brazil: a cross-sectional survey. [Journal Article]Braz J Microbiol. 2026 Nov 04; 57(1).BJ
- Nasal colonization by Staphylococcus aureus among healthcare professionals represents a potential risk for the spread of resistant strains in hospital settings. Thus, this cross-sectional study aimed to determine the prevalence of nasal colonization by S. aureus and to characterize the antimicrobial resistance profile of the isolated strains from professionals working in a public hospital in Caxi…

- Flow-to-Compliance Ratio as a Bedside Marker of Strain Rate in Pediatric Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome: Analysis of Observational Cohort Data From 2022. [Journal Article]Pediatr Crit Care Med. 2026 Nov 04. [Online ahead of print]PC
- CONCLUSIONS: In PARDS, the Flow/CRS ratio is associated with measured strain rate but exhibits systematic bias, precluding direct interchangeability. Flow/CRS may serve as a pragmatic bedside marker reflecting deformation-velocity behavior. Prospective validation in larger and more heterogeneous cohorts is required.

- Dynamic phenotyping and organ cross-talk in sepsis-associated organ injury: from physiological trajectories to precision critical care. [Journal Article]Shock. 2026 Nov 04. [Online ahead of print]S
- Sepsis-associated organ injury remains a major cause of mortality in critically ill patients. Conventional assessment relies largely on physiological indicators, including lactate, mean arterial pressure (MAP), PaO2/FiO2 ratio, creatinine, urine output, and organ dysfunction scores. However, these isolated values or single-variable trends may incompletely capture the temporal instability and biol…

- Fermented fruit products contain diverse phytochemicals and may exert biological effects after oral intake. This study qualitatively screened for phytochemical-related signals in lung tissue after oral administration of fermented Rosa roxburghii Tratt (FRRT) and separately evaluated its preventive effects against lipopolysaccharide-induced lung injury in mice. UHPLC-MS/MS detected ten tentatively…

- CONCLUSIONS: Nocturnal Hypoxemia and Fragmentation & Arousal are preferentially linked to nonlinear dynamics reflecting Regulatory Complexity and Sympathovagal Balance, whereas Baroreflex & Ectopic metrics are only selectively engaged. This atlas provides a unified framework for generating testable hypotheses and selecting clinically meaningful autonomic biomarkers.

- Transbronchial Cryobiopsy for the Diagnosis of Peripheral Pulmonary Lesions: A Prospective Randomized Controlled Study. [Randomized Controlled Trial]J Vis Exp. 2026 Nov 03; (237).JV
- Peripheral pulmonary lesions (PPLs) are increasingly detected by chest computed tomography, yet bronchoscopic diagnosis remains challenging for small and distal lesions. This prospective, single-center, randomized controlled study evaluated radial endobronchial ultrasound combined with a guide sheath (R-EBUS-GS)-assisted transbronchial cryobiopsy using a 1.1-mm ultrathin cryoprobe. Fifty patients…

- Syndromic craniosynostosis (SC), such as Apert and Crouzon syndromes, causes midface hypoplasia that severely limits nasal cavity development. A computed tomography (CT)-based volumetric protocol for nasal cavity volumetry and choanal airway classification in pediatric SC patients, using landmark-based image segmentation software, is described and tested for intra-rater reproducibility. The proto…

- Obstructive airway diseases, including asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), represent the two major chronic airway inflammatory diseases. In both conditions, the airways are exposed to a variety of microbial and environmental stimuli. A healthy airway microbiome is characterized not only by microbial diversity but also by the absence of significant quantities of pathogens, and…
