- Dermatophytosis beyond Trichophyton indotineae: genomic characterization of rare keratinophilic fungi Myriodontium keratinophilum and Aphanoascus verrucosus in North India. [Journal Article]Microbiol Spectr. 2026 Sep 25; :e0108726. [Online ahead of print]MS
- Fungal skin infections represent the fourth most prevalent disease globally, predominantly attributed to dermatophyte species such as Trichophyton. Nevertheless, sporadic instances of dermatophytosis may also arise from opportunistic, uncommon fungi. This study documents the association of keratinophilic fungi, Myriodontium keratinophilum and Aphanoascus verrucosus, with cases of dermatophytosis …

- Antifungal pulse therapy for onychomycosis: a narrative review. [Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: The current evidence supports continuous terbinafine as the preferred first-line systemic treatment for dermatophyte onychomycosis, whereas pulse itraconazole remains an important alternative for patients who are unable to tolerate terbinafine, have contraindications to its use, or have failed previous therapy. Further well-designed randomized studies with standardized outcome measures and long-term assessment of recurrence are required to better define the optimal role of pulse antifungal therapy in onychomycosis management.

- Kerion, an often missed scalp lesion: A case report. [Case Reports]
- Kerion is an abscess caused by a fungal infection, commonly occurring on the scalp among children and rarely in adults. This report illustrates the case of a 12-year-old boy who presented with multiple plaques with crusty lesions on the scalp for 2 months, associated with purulent discharge and boggy swelling, initially misdiagnosed as seborrheic dermatitis. Following unsuccessful treatment, his …

- Majocchi's granuloma of the scalp caused by Trichophyton tonsurans in an immunosuppressed adolescent with Crohn's disease: a case report. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: This case highlights the need for early microbiological and histopathological assessment of severe scalp lesions in immunosuppressed patients, especially after skin-barrier disruption. It also raises awareness of possible dermatophyte transmission related to hairdressing and of a lack of clinical response to terbinafine in dermatophyte infections.

- Deciphering the genomic landscape of Trichophyton indotineae in China and exploring a correlative model for azole resistance prediction. [Journal Article]
- Background. Trichophyton indotineae is an emerging multidrug-resistant dermatophyte that has rapidly spread across continents, posing a serious threat to global public health. Limited genomic data from mainland China hinder a comprehensive understanding of its evolutionary origin, underscoring the urgent need for molecular susceptibility data to guide clinical antifungal therapy. To clarify the e…

- The Trichophyton mentagrophytes complex currently comprises three species (T. mentagrophytes, T. interdigitale, and T. indotineae) and exhibits substantial diversity in internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region sequences. Within this complex, Trichophyton indotineae and T. mentagrophytes ITS genotype VII have recently emerged as important public health concerns. The aim of the study was to describ…

- Dermoscopy in the Evaluation of Tinea Corporis: A Potential to Optimize Diagnostic Accuracy. [Journal Article]
- Introduction Tinea corporis, or ringworm, is a fungal infection caused by dermatophytes that affects the skin. It is a significant public health concern, particularly in tropical regions like India, due to issues like antifungal resistance and improper use of combination creams. Traditional diagnostic methods, such as potassium hydroxide (KOH) tests and fungal cultures, are reliable but time-cons…

- A Prospective Study of Cutaneous Adverse Effects Among Patients With Topical Corticosteroid Abuse in a Tertiary Care Center. [Journal Article]
- Background Topical corticosteroids are widely used in dermatology because of their rapid anti-inflammatory effects. However, their easy availability and lack of awareness regarding their adverse effects have led to widespread misuse, resulting in a growing burden of steroid-induced cutaneous complications. Objectives This study aims to assess topical corticosteroid abuse, analyze the patterns and…
