- Feasibility of Sarcopenia Assessment and Association With Functional Outcome in Acute Ischemic Stroke. [Journal Article]Physiother Can. 2026 May; 78(2):259-268.PC
- Purpose: The primary aim was to report feasibility of sarcopenia assessment within 7 days of ischemic stroke. Secondary aims were to estimate prevalence of sarcopenia and its association with functional outcome after stroke. Method: Participants, ischemic stroke survivors from two hospital acute stroke units, underwent sarcopenia assessment steps using the revised European Working Group on Sarcop…

- Triple Preventive Therapy with OnabotulinumtoxinA, Fremanezumab, and Atogepant in Treatment-Resistant Chronic Migraine: A 52-Week Pilot Case Series (TRIPLE Cohort). [Journal Article]Neurol Ther. 2026 Oct 06. [Online ahead of print]NT
- CONCLUSIONS: In selected patients with treatment-resistant CM, triple preventive therapy was associated with delayed but clinically meaningful reductions in migraine burden and disability. No major tolerability issues were observed, although the small sample size precludes conclusions regarding safety. These findings support further evaluation of combination strategies in controlled studies.

- The oxysterolome iterative metabolism expands sterol signaling. [Review]Trends Endocrinol Metab. 2026 Sep 22. [Online ahead of print]TE
- Oxysterols are generally viewed as individual signaling molecules regulating lipid homeostasis, immunity, development, and disease. However, many primary oxysterols are metabolic hubs that undergo iterative enzymatic transformations, generating secondary and higher-order metabolites with distinct biological activities. We propose the oxysterolome to describe this interconnected network of oxygena…

- Differential effects of stearic, palmitic and oleic acid enriched diets on gut microbiome, bile acid and cholesterol metabolism in mildly hypercholesterolemic post-menopausal females: A secondary analysis of a randomized controlled trial. [Journal Article]Am J Clin Nutr. 2026 Oct 06; :101561. [Online ahead of print]AJ
- CONCLUSIONS: The cholesterol-lowering effects of 18:0 and 18:1 relative to 16:0 involved shared hepatic regulation of BA and cholesterol metabolism, while 18:0 uniquely modulated specific microbial taxa and BAs, suggestive of altered enterohepatic BA recycling.

- Effects of transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation on motor function in older adults: a randomized crossover study. [Journal Article]Clinics (Sao Paulo). 2026 Oct 06; 81:101141. [Online ahead of print]C
- CONCLUSIONS: This first randomized crossover trial investigating the acute effects of transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation in healthy older women demonstrated enhanced parasympathetic modulation and improved performance relative to predicted walking capacity. However, the primary outcome, absolute 6-minute walk distance, did not reach statistical significance. These findings should therefore be considered preliminary and hypothesis-generating, supporting the need for larger trials to determine the long-term clinical relevance of tVNS in older populations.

- Associations of Midlife Gait Speed and Muscle Performance With Falls in Later Life: Secondary Analysis of the MIDUS Cohort. [Journal Article]JMIR Aging. 2026 Oct 06; 9:e103917.JA
- CONCLUSIONS: Slower midlife gait speed was associated with higher odds of recurrent falls, suggesting that fall vulnerability may be detectable as early as midlife. Given the exploratory nature of this study, further studies are warranted to confirm these findings.

- The projected rise of pancreatic cancer mortality in Italy: forecasts until 2035. [Journal Article]Updates Surg. 2026 Oct 06. [Online ahead of print]US
- Temporal trends and future projections of pancreatic cancer mortality in Italy were examined to identify and characterize areas of interventions at medical and administrative level. Pancreatic cancer mortality data for 2005-2022 and demographic data including projections of Italian population through 2035 were retrieved from the Italian National Institute of Statistics public database. - Not All Pain Is Equal: Lower Extremity Pain and Longitudinal Fall Risk in Older Adults. [Journal Article]Australas J Ageing. 2026 Dec; 45(4):e70244.AJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Self-reported current lower extremity pain was associated with a higher hazard of subsequently reported falls among community-dwelling older adults. Further studies are needed to determine whether pain location improves fall-risk prediction and whether interventions targeting lower extremity pain can reduce falls.

- Oxidative aging of plant protein-stabilized emulsions and its impact on carotenoid bioaccessibility. [Review]Food Chem X. 2026 Oct; 39:104513.FC
- Plant proteins are widely used as natural emulsifiers for carotenoid-enriched foods, yet most delivery studies evaluate freshly prepared emulsions instead of products stored before consumption. During storage, lipids, interfacial proteins, and carotenoids undergo concurrent oxidation. Lipid hydroperoxides and secondary products can modify adsorbed proteins, while carotenoids are prone to isomeriz…

- Safety of antithrombotic therapy in hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia: results from a prospective cohort study. [Journal Article]Res Pract Thromb Haemost. 2026 Aug; 10(6):106943.RP
- CONCLUSIONS: In this prospective cohort, AT was associated with an acceptable safety profile in selected patients with HHT managed in a multidisciplinary setting. These findings strengthen the currently limited prospective evidence supporting individualized antithrombotic management in HHT, although larger multicenter prospective studies remain warranted.

- Mapping the distribution of Meissner corpuscles throughout the human hand: Sex- and age-dependent variations. [Journal Article]Anat Rec (Hoboken). 2026 Oct 05. [Online ahead of print]AR
- Meissner corpuscles are rapidly adapting mechanoreceptors involved in tactile discrimination in human glabrous hand skin. Detailed information on their regional distribution and variation across age, sex, and hand side remains limited. This study mapped Meissner corpuscles in 17 phalangeal and palmar regions from 46 individuals (27 male and 19 female) aged 3-92 years. Corpuscles were identified b…

- Longitudinal changes in selected biochemical, hematological, and vital parameters in Gurcu goat kids: effects of age, sex, and birth type. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The main contribution of this study is the provision of breed-specific longitudinal baseline data for healthy Gurcu goat kids raised under traditional management conditions. Age should be considered the primary factor when interpreting biochemical, hematological, and vital parameters in growing Gurcu goat kids, whereas sex and birth type should be regarded as additional, parameter-specific modifiers. Because of the relatively small sample size and single-farm study design, further studies with larger populations raised under different environmental and management conditions are needed to confirm and expand these findings.

- Under ongoing emission-control measures, PM2.5 pollution in industrial cities is increasingly shaped by changes in chemical composition and secondary aerosol formation. This study investigates the compositional transition of PM2.5 and the coupled formation mechanisms of secondary aerosols in Handan, a typical industrial city in northern China, from 2018 to 2024. Based on long-term PM2.5 samples c…

- Aging aggravates early scar healing after facial laceration through fibroblast-centered extracellular matrix remodeling. [Journal Article]J Tissue Viability. 2026 Sep 30; 35(4):101061. [Online ahead of print]JT
- CONCLUSIONS: Early scar outcomes after facial laceration are associated with age, and these associations vary across wound characteristics. Complementary findings from reanalyzed public human skin transcriptomic data and separate mouse experiments are consistent with age-associated fibroblast-centered extracellular matrix remodeling.
