  • Not just exotropia: a case of persistent visual complaints in a 10-year-old boy. [Case Reports]
Strabismus. 2026; 34(sup1):95-99.Polling JR, Loudon SES
  • CONCLUSIONS: This case underscores the importance of recognizing red flags in seemingly straightforward strabismus. Persistent accommodative spasm with reduced distance visual acuity, particularly when unexplained, and a rapidly decompensating intermittent exotropia should prompt consideration of neuroimaging. Early recognition of these atypical features can significantly alter both the diagnostic process and management in pediatric strabismus.
  • PSEUDOMYOPIA IN YOUNG ADULTS, A REPORT OF THREE CASES FROM A SINGLE TERTIARY FACILITY IN IBADAN, NIGERIA. [Journal Article]
Ann Ib Postgrad Med. 2026 Apr 30; 24(1):146-150.Ugalahi MO, Ogunbiyi AB, … Olusanya BAAI
  • Pseudomyopia is a myopic shift in the refractive power of the eye due to overstimulation of the mechanism of accommodation. It is most common among children and may occur in all types of refractive errors, especially in hyperopia. The usual symptoms of pseudomyopia include asthenopia, intermittent blurry vision and sometimes diplopia. The management starts with recognition, which involves a high …

  • As an optical system, the eyes function in line with the basic principles of refraction. Visual clarity depends on the ability to bring incident light rays to a point focus at the fovea centralis. Schematically, the cornea and crystalline lens provide the requisite total dioptric power (about +60 diopters; the cornea makes up about + 40 to + 48 diopters). Accommodation is the adaptative faculty t…
  • Incidence and Risk Factors of Accommodative Spasms After LASIK for Hyperopia Correction. [Journal Article]
    J Refract Surg. 2025 Dec; 41(12):e1319-e1329.Milán-Castillo R, Cantó-Cerdán M, … Alió Del Barrio JLJR
  • CONCLUSIONS: Twenty percent of patients develop an accommodative spasm after hyperopic LASIK treatment at 3 months after surgery. However, 75% of those spasms resolve between 6 and 12 months after surgery, by either performing vision therapy or simply observing the patient without specific treatment. Uncorrected preoperatively latent hyperopia greater than +1.25 diopters was associated with postoperative accommodative spasm in this cohort.
  • Visual Dysfunctions in Mild Traumatic Brain Injury: A Focus on Accommodative System Impairments. [Review]
    Life (Basel). 2025 May 06; 15(5).Almutairi NML
  • Background: Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) is a prevalent neurological condition that results in various physical, emotional, and cognitive impairments. The most common are visual impairments, which affect vision's perceptual, motor, and sensory aspects. Objective: This paper analyzes the pathophysiology of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) and its effects on visual and oculomotor functions,…
  • Management of trismus after radiation therapy. [Review]
Curr Opin Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg. 2025 Aug 01; 33(4):255-261.Charters E, McMillan H, Cardoso RCO
  • CONCLUSIONS: The incidence of radiation induced trismus is anticipated to rise along with that of head and neck cancers globally. Trismus carries significant functional and quality of life implications with known limitations and opportunities for optimizing its management.

  • The human eye can see any object placed at a variable distance from it by altering its structure (by altering the anterior lens surface). This phenomenon is called accommodation. Accommodative dysfunction is a common vision disorder among the pediatric population with or without visual disturbance and binocular dysfunction. Accommodative dysfunction is either accommodative insufficiency or accomm…
