  • Repurposing a commercial artificial intelligence vision platform for automated surgical instrument identification: a proof-of-concept study. [Journal Article]
    Patient Saf Surg. 2026 Oct 12; 20(1).Stoerzer S, Xhemo K, … Schmelzle MPS
  • CONCLUSIONS: An industrial vision platform detected item presence with high reliability and identified item type with high accuracy, however, with a residual error rate of 7.5%. The errors were predictable and confined to visually similar classes, pointing to correctable mitigations rather than a fundamental limit. These figures represent an upper bound under highly controlled conditions rather than expected intraoperative performance. Such a system is intended to support rather than replace the perioperative team. This study establishes feasibility rather than clinical benefit; a prospective intraoperative study is the necessary next step.
  • Synthetic Content Validation of Pediatric Trust Instruments Using Persona-Driven Large Language Models: Development and Evaluation Study. [Journal Article]
    JMIR Form Res. 2026 Oct 13; 10:e96901.Boone E, Loban K, … Poenaru DJF
  • CONCLUSIONS: Persona-prompted LLMs effectively assisted preliminary content validation and may help reduce timelines from months to weeks, but showed limitations in quantitative computations. This suggests that, in this study, persona-prompted LLMs performed better in subjective rating tasks than in deterministic cosine similarity computations. These findings help illustrate task-dependent boundaries for LLM integration in psychometric research, necessitating selective human-LLM collaboration. While these instruments achieved preliminary content validity, they require full psychometric testing before they can be considered validated for clinical use. Synthetic Instrument Validation offers a feasible approach to preliminary health care instrument development while preserving key elements of content validation.
  • [Research on Quality Control Testing Methods for Laparoscopic Surgical Robots]. [Journal Article]
Zhongguo Yi Liao Qi Xie Za Zhi. 2026 Sep 30; 50(5):487-497.Lu H, Liao Y, … Zhang HZY
  • To address the lack of quality and safety evaluation criteria and the inconsistency of testing methods in the clinical application of laparoscopic surgical robots, this study developed a scientific and operable testing method system based on a four-dimensional framework of "device appearance and function-electrical safety-image quality-robotic arm and surgical instruments". By identifying risk po…
  • Living With Cancer-Related Stigma Among Female Breast Cancer Survivors in Indonesia: A Cross-Sectional Study. [Journal Article]
Res Nurs Health. 2026 Oct 12. [Online ahead of print]Merdawati L, Gautama MSN, … So WKWRN
  • Cancer-related stigma significantly affects breast cancer survivors' quality of life and treatment outcomes. In Indonesia, survivors often face stigmatization, yet evidence on the influence of personal and psychosocial factors remains limited. This study aimed to identify factors associated with stigma among breast cancer survivors. A cross-sectional design was used to recruit 280 female survivor…
  • Transitioning from direct vision to totally endoscopic minimally invasive cardiac surgery. [Review]
J Vis Surg. 2026; 12:44.Danesi TH, Zancanaro EJV
  • Minimally invasive cardiac surgery (MICS) has evolved significantly over the past two decades, shifting from conventional median sternotomy toward sternal-sparing approaches that offer reduced surgical trauma, lower complication rates, and faster patient recovery. As incision size has progressively decreased, the field has advanced toward totally endoscopic cardiac surgery (TECS), in which the en…
  • Long-term patient reported outcomes after childhood hypospadias repair: a multicentre cohort study. [Multicenter Study]
    J Sex Med. 2026 Oct 07; 23(11).Rotondi G, Gnech M, … Morlacco AJS
  • CONCLUSIONS: Adolescent patients who underwent hypospadias repair reported satisfaction with cosmetic, urinary, and sexual outcomes comparable to previous studies. However, variations in satisfaction and persistent psychological concerns following complications underline the importance of recognizing patients' subjective experiences. Multidisciplinary, long-term follow-up and tailored psychosocial support are essential to optimize psychosexual adjustment and quality of life after surgery.
