  • Neurodevelopmental Outcomes in Children Born After Fresh Versus Frozen Embryo Transfer. [Journal Article]
J Am Acad Child Adolesc Psychiatry. 2026 Sep 30. [Online ahead of print]Chang JC, Chen MJ, … Lan THJA
  • CONCLUSIONS: Our findings provide reassurance regarding the long-term neurodevelopmental safety of frozen ET and ICSI compared to fresh ET and conventional IVF, respectively. The modestly increased risks of ADHD and ASD observed in all assisted reproductive technology (ART)-conceived children warrant further investigation to disentangle the effects of the ART procedures themselves from the underlying parental subfertility. Nevertheless, the minimal absolute risk increase is clinically small and remains reassuring for patients and providers considering ART.
  • Redox homeostasis modulation promotes capacitation-associated events in equine sperm. [Journal Article]
Res Vet Sci. 2026 Sep 28; 212:106425. [Online ahead of print]Ortiz-Rodriguez JM, Swegen A, … Gibb ZRV
  • Sperm capacitation, a crucial process for successful fertilization, is modulated by reactive oxygen species (ROS) and involves molecular changes including increased membrane fluidity, cholesterol depletion, and protein tyrosine phosphorylation. Although an effective equine in vitro fertilization protocol has recently been described, its requirement for prolonged capacitation limits applicability …
  • The seminal microbiome/microbiota and implications for antibiotics in semen extenders. [Review]
Anim Reprod Sci. 2026 Sep 28; 294:108347. [Online ahead of print]Morrell JM, Ntallaris T, … Cojkic AAR
  • The seminal microbiota is an integral component of fertility, both through its role in maintaining the health of the male reproductive tract and its contribution to the microbiota of the female reproductive tract. Many factors affect the dynamics of the seminal microbiota, such as the age and breed of the animal, and the husbandry conditions under which it is kept. Animal breeders introduce semen…
  • Zinc is a key regulator of the sperm-specific K+ channel (Slo3) function. [Journal Article]
    Elife. 2026 Sep 30; 14.Andriani RT, Pipatpolkai T, … Kawai TE
  • The voltage- and pH-gated Slo3 potassium channel is exclusively expressed in mammalian spermatozoa. Its sensitivity to both voltage and alkalization plays a crucial role in sperm fertility, which is tightly coupled to the capacitation process. Here, we show that sperm-enriched divalent cation Zn2+ undergoes dynamic alteration in spermatozoa during capacitation. We also found that intracellular Zn…
  • Semen quality in men with cancer: comparison with a healthy Swiss reference population. [Journal Article]
Reprod Fertil. 2026 Sep 30. [Online ahead of print]Vogt M, Rahban R, … Steinmann MRF
  • Cancer and its treatment can reduce fertility in men of reproductive age and can affect the ability to have children. It is still unclear how much of this effect is caused by the disease itself and how much by the treatment. In this study, we compared semen quality in men with cancer before and after treatment with that of healthy Swiss men. We found that some patients, especially those with test…
  • Mitochondrial Quality Control: A Gatekeeper of Spermatogenesis. [Journal Article]
    J Vis Exp. 2026 Sep 29; (235).Huang C, Sun X, … Liu SJV
  • Male infertility is rising worldwide. Spermatogenesis is energetically demanding and tightly coupled to mitochondrial quality control (MQC)-including biogenesis, fusion-fission dynamics, and mitophagy. Here we synthesize current evidence across developmental stages of germ cells, highlighting stage-specific shifts from glycolysis-supported ATP production to oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS)-domi…
  • Gout, hyperuricemia, and male reproductive health: a systematic review and meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]
    Front Immunol. 2026; 17:1889720.Mao J, Xu M, … Wu DFI
  • CONCLUSIONS: Male patients with gout or hyperuricemia are more prone to erectile dysfunction and lower levels of reproductive hormones. Patients with gout showed significantly lower testosterone levels in the subgroup analyses. These findings emphasize the clinical need for increased awareness of male reproductive health problems in men with gout and implementation of effective intervention measures.
