- CONCLUSIONS: Smartphone spirometry is feasible for home-based lung function assessment in children with suspected asthma. Compliance and measurement quality were moderate but acceptable for clinical interpretation in most participants. Automated grading aligns well with manual review though potential discrepancies should be considered in clinical decision-making.

- CONCLUSIONS: External abdominal pressure in older adults was associated with both respiratory and physical functions. Sex and lower-limb muscle strength were identified as independent associated factors. - CONCLUSIONS: Personal health app co-design is rooted in a complex digital landscape that requires a significant amount of up-front effort and time. However, the up-front investment of time can result in rich and diverse end user feedback that could save time in the app development trajectory to implementation. This paper provides a co-design framework and the building blocks of 5 prototype personal health apps with publicly available open-source code on GitHub. These prototypes could be leveraged for improving understanding of, communicating symptoms of, and providing n-of-1 suggestions for rare or complex diseases, providing benefit to patient communities and individual patients.

- CONCLUSIONS: In elderly patients awaiting elective cardiac surgery, a 3-week physiotherapist-supervised respiratory training protocol was feasible and was associated with improved preoperative FVC. Because of the small sample size, absence of randomization, and lack of a control group, these findings should be interpreted as exploratory and hypothesis-generating. Larger controlled studies are required to determine whether preoperative respiratory training improves postoperative pulmonary or functional recovery.

- CONCLUSIONS: Sarcopenia, even at the probable stage, was significantly associated with an increased risk of incident respiratory disease, and inflammatory and metabolic mechanisms may underlie these associations. Our findings highlight the importance of early prevention and management of sarcopenia for preserving respiratory health.

- CONCLUSIONS: For the patients in the study, digital applications improved self-efficacy and self-control. However, a better understanding of these applications and additional medical feedback could be helpful for the patients using such digital applications. - CONCLUSIONS: Reversal of neuromuscular blockade with sugammadex is associated with higher post-operative values of PEFR when compared with neostigmine. Higher values of PEFR and FEV1, FVC, and FEV1/FVC ratio after surgery shorten the time to extubation, minimise PPC, and facilitate early post-operative recovery.
