- METTL3 Alleviates Liver Abscess by Enhancing Macrophage Efferocytosis via m[6]A Methylation of Nrf2 mRNA. [Journal Article]Immun Inflamm Dis. 2026 Oct; 14(10):e70534.II
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings demonstrate that METTL3 promotes m[6]A methylation of Nrf2 mRNA, activates the Nrf2/TAM receptor axis, enhances macrophage efferocytosis, and alleviates BLA.

- BACKGROUND An ingested fish bone may cause bowel penetration and subsequent infection, and approximately 1% of such cases require emergent surgery. Moreover, infection and hemorrhage may occur when a penetrated fish bone migrates into surrounding organs or vessels. CASE REPORT A 79-year-old man ate grilled Japanese horse mackerel. Three days later, he developed abdominal pain and a sustained feve…

- Cutaneous tumbu fly myiasis in a returning child traveller and a novel EMLA-assisted extraction technique in paediatric emergency care. [Case Reports]BMJ Case Rep. 2026 Oct 05; 19(10).BC
- Myiasis is a parasitic infestation caused by dipterous larvae and is an important diagnostic consideration in travellers returning from endemic regions with infected skin lesions. Paediatric cases present unique management challenges, particularly when invasive procedures or general anaesthesia are considered. We report a case of cutaneous myiasis with associated cellulitis in a toddler following…

- PSOAS MUSCLE ABSCESS FOLLOWING CESAREAN SECTION: A CASE REPORT. [Case Reports]Georgian Med News. 2026 Jul-Aug; (376-377):320-322.GM
- CONCLUSIONS: Psoas abscess should be considered in patients with persistent postpartum fever, particularly when accompanied by hip pain or impaired ambulation. Early imaging and appropriate source control are important for favorable maternal outcomes.
- Variants in CEP135 Cause Congenital Microcephaly and Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: These cases establish variants in CEP135 as a novel cause of PCD with microcephaly. The TEM findings of bulbous ciliary tips may be a reliable marker of overlapping ciliopathies in patients with aspects of motile and non-motile ciliary dysfunction.

- Body mass index and type 2 diabetes liability in osteomyelitis and cellulitis: A cross-biobank Mendelian randomization study. [Journal Article]
- Previous Mendelian randomization (MR) studies have linked obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2D) liability to osteomyelitis and skin or soft-tissue infection, but the reproducibility of these associations across independent outcome biobanks remains uncertain. We conducted cross-biobank univariable MR and multivariable MR analyses using European-ancestry genome-wide association study summary statistics…

- Unraveling a Rare Complication: BCG-associated Brain Abscess in Wiskott-aldrich Syndrome. [Case Reports]Iran J Allergy Asthma Immunol. 2026 Aug 12; 25(Sup 11):211-217.IJ
- Wiskott-aldrich syndrome (WAS) is a rare X-linked primary immunodeficiency characterized by thrombocytopenia, eczema, and recurrent infections. Live vaccines, such as Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG), routinely administered in tuberculosis-endemic regions, may cause severe complications in undiagnosed patients. We report a 2-year-old boy with genetically confirmed WAS who developed a rare BCG-relat…

- Comparison of Molecular Methods With Culture for Identifying Microbial Etiology in Pediatric Empyema Thoracis: A Systematic Review of Diagnostic Test Accuracy. [Systematic Review]

- Post-traumatic Aspergillus niger empyema in an immunocompetent military patient: a case report. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: This case highlights the importance of maintaining a broad microbiological differential-including uncommon fungal pathogens-in post-traumatic pleural space infections with atypical or indolent presentations, even in immunocompetent patients. Early surgical intervention and targeted antifungal therapy are key to achieving a successful outcome.

- Tuberculosis and persistent chylous ascites. [Case Reports]BMJ Case Rep. 2026 Oct 01; 19(10).BC
- A boy in late adolescence presented with fever, weight loss, mediastinal and retroperitoneal lymphadenopathy, and was diagnosed with extrapulmonary tuberculosis. His clinical course was complicated by drug-induced liver injury, a tubercular psoas abscess requiring percutaneous drainage. After this procedure he developed rapidly recurring chylous ascites requiring frequent large-volume paracentesi…

- Central nervous system (CNS) infections may cause sudden unexpected death when diagnosis is delayed or missed. We report a fatal case of Streptococcus pyogenes meningoencephalitis and systematically review postmortem investigations of fatal bacterial CNS infections. A 57-year-old woman was found dead at home after untreated otalgia, hearing loss, purulent otorrhea, low-grade fever, asthenia, and …

- CONCLUSIONS: XP-associated scalp SCC may behave aggressively and extend intracranially, even in children. In patients with a history of malignancy, intracranial lesions with an apparent infectious appearance should prompt careful consideration of tumour extension in the differential diagnosis. Recognition of suspicious neuroimaging features, careful radiologic-pathologic correlation, early multidisciplinary evaluation, and timely management are essential to optimize outcomes. The parents consented to publish the child's report in detail.

- Severe upper limb soft tissue infection with compartment syndrome following a scratch injury: a case report. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: This case underscores the critical importance of early diagnosis and aggressive multidisciplinary management in preventing severe complications associated with SSTIs. Furthermore, it highlights that seemingly minor skin injuries may progress to compartment syndrome and life-threatening systemic complications. Early recognition, prompt surgical intervention, and coordinated multidisciplinary care were essential for successful infection control and limb preservation.
