- A novel microvascular arterio-neural pathway for intraneural ganglion cyst formation secondary to cystic adventitial disease: illustrative case. [Journal Article]J Neurosurg Case Lessons. 2026 Jul 20; 12(3).JN
- CONCLUSIONS: This case expands the unifying articular theory, demonstrating that synovial fluid propagation can exploit a microvascular arterio-neural pathway rather than strictly macroscopic fascial planes. High-resolution 7T MRI is essential for visualizing these subtle connections. Successful management requires meticulous identification and disconnection of the primary joint connection to prevent recurrence. https://thejns.org/doi/10.3171/CASE26411.

- Ultrasmooth Sliding Contact Interfaces Driven by Vanadium in WS2-V/MAC Gel Hybrid Systems toward Enhanced Vacuum Lubrication. [Journal Article]ACS Appl Mater Interfaces. 2026 Jul 20. [Online ahead of print]AA
- Contact interfaces fundamentally govern the friction behavior and wear mechanisms of tribological systems through their inherent physical and chemical characteristics. This work presents an interfacial engineering strategy that constructs an ultrasmooth and adaptive sliding contact interface by synergistically combining vanadium-doped tungsten disulfide (WS2-V) films with a multialkylated cyclope…

- Mobile App Use and Pregnancy Health Literacy: Cross-Sectional Study Using Bayesian Network Analysis. [Journal Article]J Med Internet Res. 2026 Jul 20; 28:e85403.JM
- CONCLUSIONS: This study reveals that pregnancy apps may enhance health literacy by fostering positive emotions and strengthening support networks. This finding challenges assumptions about digital health interventions and demonstrates that apps function as psychological support systems rather than mere information sources. The findings validate CLT and ICALM within pregnancy contexts, showing that emotionally supportive apps reduce irrelevant emotional processing that consumes cognitive capacity, thereby enhancing information retention. For practice, app developers should prioritize emotional support and social connection over content volume, while health care providers should recommend apps that enhance emotional well-being. This study demonstrates BN's value for revealing complex psychological relationships in digital health contexts.

- Strengthening Resilience and Mental Well-Being Through the Support4Resilience Toolbox for Leaders in Older Adult Care: Protocol for a Cross-Country Mixed Methods Study (Support4Resilience). [Journal Article]JMIR Res Protoc. 2026 Jul 20; 15:e73701.JR
- CONCLUSIONS: S4R will deliver a research-based digital Toolbox that supports leaders in strengthening the resilience and mental well-being of health care workers and informal caregivers in older adult care. By integrating the perspectives and experiences of leaders, health care workers, and informal caregivers, identifying resilience factors, and developing theory-informed, cost-effective interventions, S4R will provide actionable resources through an open-access platform, contributing to more resilient older adult care systems.

- Platinum Ensemble Heterogeneity Enables Efficient Solvent-Free Hydrogen Production. [Journal Article]J Am Chem Soc. 2026 Jul 20. [Online ahead of print]JA
- Liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHCs) based on cycloalkane/aromatic pairs are promising for safe hydrogen storage and transportation, but their practical implementation is limited by sluggish dehydrogenation kinetics and catalyst deactivation under working conditions. Herein, we report a rationally designed platinum catalyst supported on curved graphene-coated nanodiamond (ND@G), in which full…

- Synergistic Electrolyte Solvation and Mediation Engineering for Quasi-Solid-State Sulfur Electrochemistry. [Journal Article]ACS Nano. 2026 Jul 20. [Online ahead of print]AN
- Lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries are currently hindered by the notorious polysulfide shuttling and lithium dendrite formation, despite their high theoretical energy density and low cost. These challenges are fundamentally rooted in the electrolyte chemistry, as the electrolyte environment critically influences both sulfur redox reactions and lithium plating/stripping behavior. Here, we report a sy…

- Objective: This study aimed to measure the effect of a Social Cognitive Theory (SCT)-based, urban gardening, cooking, and nutrition education intervention on health behavior mediators and fruit and vegetable intake in food-insecure college students. Methods: In a 6-week, randomized controlled trial, 89 food-insecure students at a southeastern university (86% female, 59% Hispanic), randomized into…

- Statutory construction and interpretation for AI. [Journal Article]Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A. 2026 Jul 28; 123(30):e2509766123.PN
- AI systems are increasingly governed by natural language rules, yet a key challenge arising from reliance on language remains underexplored: interpretive ambiguity. As in legal systems, ambiguity arises both from how these rules are written and how they are applied. But while legal systems use institutional safeguards to manage such ambiguity, such as transparent appellate review policing interpr…

- The backfiring effect of weak AI safety regulation. [Journal Article]Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A. 2026 Jul 28; 123(30):e2509768123.PN
- Recent policy proposals aim to improve the safety of general-purpose AI, but there is little understanding of the efficacy of different regulatory approaches. We present a strategic model that explores interactions between safety regulation, general-purpose AI technology creators, and domain specialists-those who adapt the technology for specific applications. Our analysis examines how regulatory…

- Ecological context modulates the visual detection advantage for snakes. [Journal Article]Cogn Emot. 2026 Jul 20; :1-15. [Online ahead of print]CE
- Research indicates that the human visual system is highly efficient at detecting snakes, yet less is known about how ecological visual contexts modulate this advantage. We conducted two experiments with university students (N = 58 each) to test whether background complexity influences snake-detection efficiency using a dual-task paradigm. In Experiment 1, stimuli were presented on a uniform grey …

- The electrocarboxylation of butadiene (BD) offers a sustainable route to hexenedioate synthesis through CO2 utilization. Hexenedioate can be converted into adipic acid, the main precursor to Nylon, which is currently produced from fossil-based feedstocks. However, key aspects of BD electrocarboxylation remain unclear, particularly the involvement of surface-bound intermediates and competing inter…

- Ergodicity transformations predict human decision-making under risk. [Journal Article]PLoS Comput Biol. 2026 Jul 20; 22(7):e1014409. [Online ahead of print]PC
- Decision theories commonly model human behavior as maximizing the expected value of a utility function. This function may vary from one person to another but is assumed to be stable over time. Recent theoretical developments demonstrate that these assumptions are generally incompatible with growing wealth at the fastest rate. Growth optimality requires utility functions to mirror ergodicity trans…

- CONCLUSIONS: In BD, the co-occurrence of childhood trauma and lifetime psychosis is associated with more pronounced ToM deficits. These results highlight the need for trauma-informed approaches and early cognitive interventions targeting social cognition in individuals with BD and psychosis history.

- Cracks on the surface of concrete structures are an obvious indication of their condition. However, traditional visual inspection methods are significantly influenced by human factors. They are accurate for larger cracks. However, they introduce subjective judgment when detecting smaller cracks. They also pose safety risks. Automated detection methods face challenges in achieving lightweight impl…
