- Subhepatic retained appendiceal tip harbouring adenocarcinoma: a surgeon's dilemma. [Case Reports]J Surg Case Rep. 2026 Jul; 2026(7):rjag633.JS
- Subhepatic appendicitis is a rare anatomical variant that mimics hepatobiliary pathology, leading to diagnostic delay and technical difficulty at surgery. We describe a 69-year-old man who underwent emergency laparoscopic appendicectomy for sepsis, complicated by dense subhepatic adhesions resulting in incomplete resection and a retained appendiceal tip. Histopathological examination unexpectedly…

- Perforated Subhepatic Appendicitis Mimicking Hepatobiliary Pathology: A Case Report and Narrative Literature Review. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Jun; 18(6):e111437.C
- Subhepatic appendicitis is a particularly rare anatomical variant presenting with atypical right upper quadrant (RUQ) pain mimicking hepatobiliary pathology. This mimicry frequently leads to diagnostic delay and subsequent increased risk of complications. A 41-year-old man presented to the Emergency Department with acute RUQ pain, radiating to the back and shoulder, accompanied by constitutional …

- Evaluating the Diagnostic Accuracy of Ultrasound and Clinical Predictors in Pediatric Acute Tip Appendicitis: A retrospective study from a tertiary center in Saudi Arabia. [Journal Article]Saudi Med J. 2026 Mar; 47(3):506-512.SM
- CONCLUSIONS: The ATA in children often lacks classic signs like high fever. US has high specificity but moderate sensitivity. Firth logistic regression was effective for analyzing small samples. Greater clinical awareness and optimized imaging use are needed for early detection and improved outcomes.

- A novel CT-based scoring system for appendicoliths and its prognostic value in acute appendicitis: a retrospective cohort study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This CT-based appendicolith scoring system provides a simple, reproducible, and clinically useful tool for preoperative risk stratification in acute appendicitis. Higher scores correlate with increased inflammatory severity, prolonged recovery, and an increased risk of postoperative complications, potentially guiding perioperative management decisions.

- Rare Presentation of Necrotic Appendicitis and Small Bowel Obstruction in an Elderly Man: De Garengeot Hernia. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Apr; 18(4):e106601.C
- De Garengeot hernia, characterized by the presence of the vermiform appendix within the femoral hernia sac, is a rare condition often diagnosed only intraoperatively. The incidence of acute appendicitis within a De Garengeot hernia is even more uncommon, and its clinical presentation may be atypical, making preoperative diagnosis difficult. This report describes the case of a 67-year-old male pat…

- Small Intestine and Vermiform Appendix Lengths in Healthy Adults: Intraoperative Morphometric Data from a Living Donor Cohort. [Journal Article]J Clin Med. 2026 Feb 25; 15(5).JC
- Background/Objectives: Small intestine and vermiform appendix lengths are critical anatomical parameters with significant implications for bariatric surgery, transplantation, and the management of short bowel syndrome. However, reliable normative data derived from direct in vivo measurements in healthy individuals remain limited. This study aimed to establish reference values in a homogeneous coh…

- Successful Endoscopic Direct Appendicitis Therapy (EDAT) for occult appendiceal perforation with abscess: a case report. [Case Reports]
- Endoscopic retrograde appendicitis therapy (ERAT) and its visually enhanced technique (Endoscopic direct appendicitis therapy, EDAT) represent a novel minimally invasive approach, offering advantages such as high-definition real-time visualization and precise intervention. This article reports a case of a 49-year-old male with acute appendicitis accompanied by an early abscess. CT findings sugges…

- Endoscopic diagnosis of appendiceal hemorrhage with a disposable imaging catheter (EyeMax): a case report. [Case Reports]Front Med (Lausanne). 2026; 13:1734727.FM
- CONCLUSIONS: The use of disposable imaging catheters enables direct endoscopic visualization of appendiceal intraluminal pathology, thereby improving diagnostic precision in challenging appendiceal cases. This minimally invasive technique shows promising clinical utility and may serve as a valuable adjunct in the diagnostic algorithm of rare appendiceal bleeding disorders.

- A Study on the Visibility and Radiological Characteristics of a Normal Appendix in Patients Undergoing Non-contrast Computed Tomography at Teaching Hospital Jaffna, Sri Lanka. [Journal Article]Cureus. 2026 Jan; 18(1):e102357.C
- Background The appendix is a vermiform structure with a variable position, length, and thickness. Imaging plays a critical role in diagnosing an inflamed appendix, with non-contrast computed tomography (NCCT) being an effective modality when ultrasound is inconclusive. This study evaluates the visibility and anatomical characteristics of a normal appendix using NCCT. Methods This retrospective de…

- Low-Grade Appendiceal Mucinous Neoplasm Presenting as Small Intestine Obstruction Due to Internal Hernia: A Case Report. [Case Reports]Int Med Case Rep J. 2026; 19:579236.IM
- CONCLUSIONS: This case illustrates that a locally invasive LAMN, even in the absence of peritoneal dissemination, can act as a lead point for an internal hernia and should be considered in the differential diagnosis of bowel obstruction and internal hernia, particularly in elderly patients.

- Acute appendicitis caused by Taenia saginata: A case report. [Case Reports]
- We report a case of acute appendicitis secondary to Taenia saginata infection. A young male presented with 17-hour migratory right lower quadrant pain. He had long-term residency in an agro-pastoral area and habits of consuming unboiled water and raw meat. Physical examination showed positive peritoneal irritation signs. Routine blood tests revealed elevated white blood cell count and normal eosi…

- A Retrocaecal Appendix Presenting With Recurrent Right Upper Quadrant Pain (RUQ): A Rare Presentation of a Rather Common Surgical Pathology. [Case Reports]
- Acute appendicitis remains one of the most common causes of acute surgical abdomen. Variations in the anatomical position of the appendix can result in atypical clinical presentations with a variety of differential diagnoses and different diagnostic pathways being followed. This can ultimately lead to diagnostic delays with associated risks of increased complications. Subhepatic appendicitis is a…

- Diverticular Disease of the Appendix: A Rarely Identified Pathology Prior to Surgery. [Case Reports]
- Diverticular disease of the appendix (DDA) remains a rare and poorly understood entity. We present a female patient in her 30s who initially presented for what was believed to be tip appendicitis after imaging. The patient was brought to the operating room (OR) for a laparoscopic appendectomy, and pathology, five days postoperatively, revealed acute appendicitis with DDA. While the patient's abdo…
