- Expression patterns of CD24 and CD27 resolve the origins and gradual differentiation of CD11c[+] atypical memory B-cells after malaria infection. [Journal Article]EMBO J. 2026 Oct 11. [Online ahead of print]EJ
- Atypical B-cells (ABCs) are observed across infections, yet their ontogeny and differentiation remain unclear. Using high-dimensional flow cytometry, single-cell transcriptomics, V(D)J sequencing, and functional assays in samples from individuals with malaria and healthy donors, we identify markers of cellular origin while tracking ABC differentiation. Early ABCs express CD11c and arise predomina…

- Early BMP7 Exposure Enhances Brown Adipogenic Differentiation of Tonsil-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This early commitment modulation study demonstrates that temporal BMP7 exposure enhances brown adipocyte-like features and adrenergic sensitivity in TMSCs. Early stage-specific signaling modulation provides a viable strategy for directing stem cell lineage commitment toward brown adipocyte-like phenotypes for metabolic research.

- Simulated microgravity induces aging phenotypes in human organoids. [Journal Article]bioRxiv. 2026 Oct 01.B
- Simulated microgravity provides a controlled perturbation for testing how loss of mechanical load affects human tissues. After 24 hours in rotating-wall vessels, neural, cardiac and tonsil organoids developed tissue-specific transcriptional responses that overlapped published spaceflight datasets, accompanied by higher transcriptomic-age estimates in neural and cardiac models, altered cardiac-org…

- Periodic fever, aphthous stomatitis, pharyngitis, adenitis: clinical manifestations, response to steroids, and a practice of online diagnosis and follow-up. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Oral prednisone is highly effective in aborting attacks but may shorten the interval between episodes in most patients. Underdiagnosis remains common. Online diagnosis and follow-up represent feasible and convenient approaches to PFAPA management.

- Differential associations between treatment delay and survival across head and neck cancer subsites: a national hospital-based framework for risk-stratified prioritization. [Journal Article]Oral Oncol. 2026 Oct 07; 182:108168. [Online ahead of print]OO
- CONCLUSIONS: Treatment delay has heterogeneous associations with mortality across head and neck subsites and stages. This derived framework identifies four TTI-sensitivity groups based on the timing at which excess adjusted mortality was observed. These findings may inform risk-stratified prioritization when treatment capacity is constrained but should not be interpreted as evidence that intentional treatment delay is clinically safe.

- Phenotypic and functional characterization of porcine T follicular helper and regulatory cells. [Journal Article]J Immunol. 2026 Oct 01; 215(10).JI
- T follicular helper (Tfh) cells provide help to B cells for antibody class switching and affinity maturation and are critical for germinal center (GC) formation. The frequency of Tfh cells has proven to be a valuable marker for predicting durable neutralizing antibody responses; conversely, the expansion of dysfunctional Tfh cells and increased T follicular regulatory (Tfr) cells are associated w…

- Effectiveness of early initiation of idursulfase in infants and very young children with mucopolysaccharidosis II: a retrospective chart review in siblings. [Journal Article]
- Enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) with intravenous idursulfase is the standard of care for patients with mucopolysaccharidosis II (MPS II; Hunter syndrome). Data are limited for children aged ≤12 months. This retrospective study evaluated outcomes with early ERT.

- Cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis with concurrent colitis of uncertain aetiology. [Case Reports]BMJ Case Rep. 2026 Oct 05; 19(10).BC
- This case presents a female in her 20s with biopsy-confirmed cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis (LCV) and significant gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms, manifesting as recurrent rectal bleeding, abdominal pain and maculopapular rash. The patient's symptoms emerged shortly after treatment with phenoxymethylpenicillin for tonsillitis. Investigations revealed left-sided colitis with distinctive endo…

- CONCLUSIONS: Children with AH requiring surgery present with a complex multimorbidity profile. Allergic rhinitis significantly increases the risk of sinusitis, while tonsil hypertrophy is the key anatomical predictor for OSA. Clinical assessment and management should concurrently address allergic status and comprehensive naso-oropharyngeal obstruction.

- Pancytopenia Misattributed to Parvovirus B19 Infection Revealing Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia. [Case Reports]
- Pancytopenia is a diagnostic challenge due to its broad differential diagnosis, including infections and hematological malignancies. Parvovirus B19 infection is a recognized but uncommon cause of transient pancytopenia. However, positive viral serology or viremia may lead to diagnostic anchoring and delay the identification of underlying malignant disorders. We report the case of a 17-year-old pr…

- Clinical and MRI morphometric characterization of symptomatic cerebellar tonsillar ectopia. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The study found that patients with TE without SM show clinical symptoms related to small PCF traits and congenital hypoplasia near the FM. In patients with TE under 4 mm, CM1-type symptoms are associated with TE at the FM, a constricted CM, and hypoplasia around the FM.

- Classically, B and T cells are differentiated by their mutually exclusive expression of surface markers such as CD3 and CD20, but it is now established that a few percent of T cells in human blood display also CD20. We analyzed CD3[+]CD20[+] cells in detail by combining single-cell proteogenomics, FACS, and ImageStream. Thereby, we identified CD3[+] B cells and found that about 40% of plasmablast…
